An immense killing intent flickered in Tang Ye’s eyes, tinged with a dash of crimson.

"Spare you? Too late!"

With a hoarse voice sharp as the winter’s chill, under the tense scrutiny of the crowd, Tang Ye spun around and violently slammed the soldier’s body onto the ground, immediately ending his life!

Calmly retrieving the Evolution Crystal Core, Tang Ye thought to himself: "Now that’s a return on investment."

The captain’s eyes bulged in disbelief. Before them, Tang Ye dared to really kill someone!

A series of safety catches being released resonated, the captain’s face turning grave and dark. He found himself not wanting to follow Yan Zhaofeng’s orders anymore. What Tang Ye did was an outright slap in his face. Even if he killed Tang Ye now, he could always explain himself to Yan Zhaofeng.

He should be able to forgive him.

Yan Zhaofeng was no fool; he naturally knew how dangerous an uncontrollable Level 2 New Human could be. It might be better to eliminate him beforehand.

The captain raised a hand, signaling the New Human soldiers to prepare for a fight, but instead saw Tang Ye surrendering with his hands up.

"Okay, I’ll accept that invitation from Mayor Yan you mentioned. So? Are you going to do something about it now? Huh."

The captain’s expression turned vacant, he didn’t expect this man to be so brazen as to announce his surrender right after killing someone.

In tomorrow’s Zombie Defense Team’s plan, it wasn’t just him who was a captain, there were others too, each with the power to limit his authority!

Now there was no doubt that Tang Ye was a Level 2 New Human. Once Yan Zhaofeng pulled him onto his side, with the strength of a Level 2 New Human, Tang Ye would surely ascend rapidly within the government!

He wasn’t sure if he would face any set-ups from Tang Ye in the future or whether Tang Ye would bear any grudge against him for his current actions. But one thing was certain, he had caught and wounded Tang Ye, the enmity between them was undeniable now!

The real instigator of all this trouble was the masked guy in front of him. There wouldn’t have been any trouble if he hadn’t killed his men!

If he killed Tang Ye now, he might avoid lots of troubles in the future. He of course had his own ways to explain it to Yan Zhaofeng.

But the real trouble wasn’t in explaining, it was how to shut everybody up!

There were just too many onlookers, although New Humans could manage them, the real challenge was the almost equal stature among New Humans in these power-dominated circumstances. Many subordinates did not respect their superiors!

It’s hard to balance it. The only one who managed well was Huachen Jiangtian, the largest survivor base in China. There, law and order were maintained with iron fist, anyone who dared to disrupt was put to death without mercy!!

Even the ordinary people in Huachen Jiangtian’s base were much better off than those in other bases! They hardly needed to risk their lives for food!

Of course, many bases imitated Huachen Jiangtian’s methods, but many of the power holders or leaders like Su Sigui were replaced by others. Those who followed them always outnumbered those who didn’t. To be like Huachen Jiangtian, unless one had a large number of New Human followers!

Huachen Jiangtian was supported by four Level 2 New Humans, who dared to make trouble?

Even though his captaincy was practically just a title, he was reluctant to let go of it, as it represented his access to more resources!

One day he would get ahead of the other New Humans, so he was not willing to give up!

"Captain, be careful! Be careful!"

While the captain was deep in thought, one of his soldiers suddenly cried out in horror. The captain was jolted back to reality, his eyes focussed on where Tang Ye had stood. Where was he now?

He transformed into a black shadow, moving eerily fast to Tang Ye’s front. The captain hurriedly raised his gun to fire, but the next second, the gun flew out of his hand, his back-mounted zombie-killing sword snapped with a crisp sound.

"Uh...ah."

The captain’s neck was seized by a powerful hand. He could feel the icy touch of the bone glove, an irresistible force acting on his shoulder, making his throat tight.

"Let go of the captain, or we’ll shoot!"

"Let go!"

"We warn you, let go of the captain!"

The other New Human soldiers cried out in fear and urgency, but some, like Zheng Minghui, didn’t seem to care.

"Heh, go ahead and shoot. Let’s see who dies first? Ha ha ha."

Tang Ye laughed wildly, holding the captain by the throat. His laugh was unpleasant, making the others shudder, some even wanting to cover their ears.

With a shift of his gaze, his derision deepened. Tang Ye turned his attention to the captain’s face, now close to his own.

Shock was etched on his face, puzzled by his own explosive speed.

"This is the speed a Level 2 New Human can reach? So fast!"

From behind his mask, Tang Ye’s eyes, adorned with colored lenses, scanned his surroundings, then he said: "Hey, what cool ideas you got? Let me guess. You must be thinking of killing me, then concocting an excuse to fool that Mayor Yan you mentioned."

"Chuckle, what you think? Am I right?"

Hearing Tang Ye’s hoarse voice, and feeling the icy chill from the hand clutching his throat, similar to a zombie’s touch!

He struggled fiercely, trying to break free, but after a couple of twists, gave up. This force, was beyond his reach!

"What’s your name?"

Staring at the red-faced captain chocking in his grip, Tang Ye asked.

"Cough... my... my name is Gu Le, cough..."

"Gu Le huh, that’s a good name," Tang Ye said with a derisive tone.

Upon hearing that, Gu Le’s face twitched even more, he thought, "Yeah right; your words are redundant, won’t you let me go?"

"Gu Le, what I just said, true or not?"

Gu Le writhed uncomfortably, unable to speak because his throat was grabbed, so he nodded to indicate that everything Tang Ye said was true.

Seeing Gu Le nod, Tang Ye laughed. Although they couldn’t see Tang Ye’s facial expression, Gu Le started to feel scared. He was afraid that Tang Ye would suddenly squeeze hard and kill him! He couldn’t die just yet!

He still had a wife at home, and a suckling son who needed to be fed. If he were killed like this, his family would suffer greatly!

Although Gu Le thought this way, he was not particularly lucky. Tang Ye didn’t make a move after seeing him nod, but instead turned to the others.

He stretched out one hand, pointed at someone, and said, "You, come here. If you don’t want him to die, hurry up!"

"Me?"

"Yeah, you. Come over."

The soldier, trembling, walked over to Tang Ye.

"Give me your dagger."

"Oh, okay."

Hearing Tang Ye’s words, this New Human scrambled to unhook the military dagger strapped to his knee and handed it to Tang Ye with both hands.

"Okay, go back."

The soldier heaved a sigh of relief, and returned to his original position. Looking at his colleagues, seeing their puzzled eyes still trained on Tang Ye, he touched his head awkwardly, not knowing whether he should resume their previous posture or not?
