And so, both sides held their ground, one side waiting for the other to make the first move, while the other was under orders not to kill.

"Discuss it further? After capturing my men, what could you possibly have to discuss? Hah."

"Your men?"

"You killed a member of our Guard Team. You should be punished!"

"Who did we kill?"

A moment of understanding flashed in Tang Ye’s eyes. They had killed someone, probably the one from yesterday, but how did they find out?

The leader’s eyes flashed coldly. Even if the other party was a Level 2 New Human, it was just a possibility. Even if it were true, it wouldn’t strike fear into their hearts. With a sweep of the steel gun in their hands, the opposing party would immediately be perforated!

The people in the footage were clearly the ones involved in yesterday’s incident. The whole incident had been recorded, especially Tang Ye, whose distinctive red mask was incredibly conspicuous on-screen!

"Hah, what do you want? Are you looking for a fight?"

If they were going to catch him red-handed, he had no need to deny anything anymore. He just had to cause a commotion in Yindan Base and leave quickly, returning when the situation had blown over.

It was all on him, for not observing his surroundings carefully enough and forgetting about the existence of surveillance cameras.

The leader watched with furrowed brows, Tang Ye’s terrifying voice sounded like a demon straight from hell and was inhuman. However, he did not associate it with zombies.

"Don’t get too cocky, let me tell you!"

Just as the leader was about to continue, a soldier standing off to the side interrupted him.

"Shut up!" The leader shouted at the soldier, then turned to Tang Ye and said, "You misunderstood. We’re not here to pick a fight. Mayor Yan wants to meet with you."

Mayor Yan... Who’s that? I don’t know him, and I won’t go! Release my people now!"

The commandant’s face twitched in frustration, feeling the anger creeping up his chest being quickly suppressed again.

Yan Zhaofeng did plan to win over Tang Ye, however. He had just killed a man, a member of the Zombie Guard Team. Even if they managed to win him over, there should still be a balance to keep other people at peace.

Otherwise, allowing someone to kill wantonly and extract Evolution Crystal Cores would likely cause a rebellion among the other new humans in the future!

As a warning to others. When trying to win him over, they need to show him who’s boss. Just like giving him a carrot and a stick, they need to let this "Level 2 New Human" Tang Ye know that Yan Zhaofeng is not afraid of him.

But Tang Ye really didn’t seem to be going along with the plan, breaking the leader’s chain of thought.

While the leader was deep in thought, another soldier suddenly roared, drawing his knife and charging at Tang Ye.

"Stop!" the leader cried out in shock.

The fool was rushing into the fight without even knowing the enemy’s strength!

There was something very strange about the guy’s aura, making every cell in his body tremble with fear, as if he was in the presence of a natural predator!

Watching as a soldier charged towards Tang Ye, the leader could only shake his head helplessly. Not every New Human in the Guard Team was well-disciplined, most were the dregs of society before the Apocalypse.

Their discipline was hard to control. After all, wielding greater power than an average person would naturally make them arrogant and ready to fight at a moment’s notice! They looked down on others and thought they were above all.

But those who thought they were above all were, in fact, the most mediocre!

Not letting the soldier finish his taunt, the leader decided to let it go. If he wanted to fight, then let him. It would be a good way to test this man’s strength!

As the soldier charged at him with his zombie-killing knife, Tang Ye’s eyes glinted with bloodlust. As the soldier approached, Tang Ye reached out like a bolt of lightning and grabbed the soldier by his throat, lifting him off the ground!

The leader managed to calm his shock. It was clear now that this man was undoubtedly a Level 2 New Human. Killing a Level 1 New Human was as if he was just toying with them. However, he could kill those New Humans who refused to be recruited, even though the government would turn a blind eye but he absolutely could not kill the New Humans in service!

When Tang Ye effortlessly captured the soldier, the other soldiers raised their guns at him. He glanced at them dismissively, already suspecting they wouldn’t dare shoot. If they had intended to shoot him, they would have done so already. Why would they wait until now?

"Let me go... Cough, let go of me!"

The soldier’s face turned red as Tang Ye’s grip tightened on his throat, choking him.

"Who are you talking to?" Tang Ye lifted his other hand in cupped-ear formation, pretending not to hear, bringing it close to the soldier’s face.

"I’m talking to you! Let me go!"

"Oh, let go of you, huh?" Tang Ye gave a cold laugh, then glanced dismissively at the crowd of gun-wielding soldiers, his eyes filled with mockery.

Although the soldier was choking, he never lowered his arrogance to beg Tang Ye for mercy, maintaining his high and mighty attitude. He believed that Tang Ye wouldn’t dare kill him.

"Let me go, or I’ll kill you!"

"Kill me! That’s a bold claim!"

Beneath the mask, Tang Ye’s sinister gaze fixated on the soldier in his hands, increasing his grip!

The soldier’s eyes bulged, as if about to pop out. A sense of impending death suddenly struck him. He felt that he was on the verge of dying. Now, he realized, Tang Ye really dared to kill him!
