Chapter 1286: Chapter 1281 "Otherworldly" City

"Don’t worry about it; consider this our way of paying for your guidance. Feel free to accept it,"

Su Sigui said with a gentle smile, knowing that the six Yajin coins would allow the two sisters to enjoy many things in the inner city. She had also gotten a rough idea of the purchasing power of Yajin at the Royal Court, which differed slightly from that at Cloud Gorge Base, but the difference wasn’t significant.

She patted Jinnah’s head and cautioned, "Be careful not to let someone steal it from you." Without giving the two sisters a chance to respond, Su Sigui got into the car and said to Yan Xing, "Let’s go."

Yan Xing nodded, started the car, and continued driving forward, leaving the sisters watching as their car drove away. After a while, Jinnah said to her sister Flora with a smile, "Sister, that big sister was so kind."

Flora smiled and replied, "Indeed." She safely tucked away the six Yajin coins and then took her sister towards the stall they had been heading to before continuing on to their intended destination.

Following the directions given by the Flora sisters, Su Sigui and her group drove along until they spotted a blue-painted stone by the roadside. Swiftly, they turned right. Su Sigui sensed that this was the route to the very center of the inner city. Looking ahead, the road began to rise, climbing higher, and the surrounding buildings were no longer as tall and prosperous as before, but turned into smaller structures. At the end of their view, they saw towering white walls, and at the center of the road, a checkpoint where the soldiers stopped the approaching cars. Su Sigui observed that passengers had to pay some Yajin before they were allowed to enter, yet many others chose to stay outside the white walls.

"So many powerful figures..." the others in the car remarked, surveying the area. Since passing the blue stone, it was rare to see ordinary people; most of those moving around here were strong individuals ranging from Level 5 to Level 7—a sight not commonly seen even in Cloud Gorge Base unless there were significant matters being discussed that called powerful figures from various factions together.

Before long, the vehicles in front had all entered within the white walls. Some, possibly deeming the Yajin required to pass through the checkpoint too expensive, turned around and left. However, Su Sigui and her group weren’t short of Yajin. Upon finding out that it would cost five Yajin coins to enter beyond the white walls, they promptly and unhesitatingly handed over the necessary sum and smoothly gained entry.

After crossing the five-meter-high white walls, what came into view was a completely different area from the outside. The car drove up a slope and through the walls. Ahead, the road began descending—the "Sacred Summit," the innermost core of the inner city, was a basin!

At first sight, palaces and countless towers stood side by side, with the majestic white walls covering the mountain peaks in the distance!

Every building they saw was grand and luxurious, tier upon tier along the undulating terrain, each so massive that they seemed hardly suitable for human habitation, more like something prepared for some enormous creature. These buildings, spread throughout the area, emanated an indescribable sense of mythic epicness, making one feel as though they were in another world, witnessing a style so unusual from Earth.

"Is this the Royal Court?" asked Yan Xing and the others, their faces showing awe. They could hardly believe there were people in today’s world who would think to build such a city!

Inside the walls, there was a clear distinction between the people here and those outside. Of course, they weren’t zombies, although Su Sigui and her group did see some high-level zombies wearing human skin walking among the crowd. However, such zombies were rare, and for the most part, they saw humans—distinguished from those outside by a quality that clearly differentiated their social strata.

It was like the difference between nobility and commoners; beyond clothes, one could spot certain details that set them apart from the common populace.

They had no idea what the inside of the white walls normally looked like, but today it was bustling. Many people had smiles on their faces, there were beautiful women of various styles carrying food on their heads walking down the streets, and passersby could help themselves to the food. Even Yan Xing and Yao Gong, emboldened, took some savory pastries that looked appetizing from the women’s baskets.

"Hey, not bad, what’s in this filling? How come I’ve never tasted it before?"

"Hey, come on, aren’t you afraid of making her mad by just taking things off her head like that? After all, she’s also a Level 3 New Human," Xu Tianyu remarked, glancing at the girl who had just passed by their car when Yan Xing brazenly reached out and grabbed a pastry.

Turning back to look, Yan Xing saw that the woman didn’t seem to mind, and the cars behind them stopped by the woman to take food from their windows, which she acknowledged with a slight bow, apparently the etiquette of the Royal Court.

"Heh, it should be fine." Yan Xing touched his nose, feeling a bit sheepish—not because he was afraid, but because their group was just five people. After arriving here, he noticed that everyone they saw was at least Level 3, with Level 6 and Level 7 individuals appearing occasionally. Although they had yet to see a Level 8 Powerhouse here, it could already be considered a gathering of the New Humans.

As Yan Xing drove on, more women like the one before appeared. Some people went up to them, exchanged a few words, and then picked some food from their baskets, eating while walking and chatting with their companions.

The following vehicles naturally slowed down, drivers instructing their children to watch out for cars driving by, while groups of sturdy soldiers made up of plain people often reminded them to drive carefully and watch out for pedestrians.

This gave those in the car a peculiar feeling, but they were well aware they weren’t dreaming. It was almost as if they were attending a festival from before the Apocalypse.

In addition to these sights, Su Sigui and her group also noticed some arenas. These were overcrowded with plain men, or muscular and powerful men, carrying poles as big as lamp posts, jostling to push others off the stage. According to what they heard, it was a game where the men on the platform had to push everyone but themselves off to be victorious, with the winner receiving a generous reward. However, this game was only open to those below Level 5; any higher, and the destructive power of Level 6 and above fighters might cause tragedy with a single exertion of force.

The farther they went, the more people they saw. It seemed everyone had taken to the streets, and the car’s speed slowed down further and further until it was no different from the normal pace of pedestrians.
