Chapter 1285: Chapter 1280: Six Yajin Coins
No matter what, if the "Sacred Summit" really is the zombie nest’s main hub, then its size has already surpassed Su Sigui’s understanding of other nests, and moreover, this nest is situated right in the heart of a city where humans live!
No, that’s not right! This seems to be a city where zombies and humans coexist! Building a city on the "Sacred Summit" was clearly not conceived by a human mind.
How could a normal person even think of building a city atop a nest?
As Su Sigui’s thoughts were tumbling in her head, the soldier outside the vehicle had already stretched out a hand towards them—it was a clear indication that a certain amount of Yajin was to be paid.
Without a second thought, Su Sigui reached into the pocket next to her and grabbed a handful of Yajin. The soldier watching this scene blanked out momentarily, thinking this woman would scatter the Yajin directly onto his hand. People like him often encounter others offering bribes, asking them to exert some effort on a particular matter. In general, as long as it does not threaten the safety of the Royal Court and is just for personal gain, the soldiers would not refuse such bribes—aside from their monthly salaries, the rest of their income came from these bribes.
Seeing so much Yajin made the soldier’s imagination run wild; he thought he had encountered a "wealthy dame" one could only meet in dreams!
He looked at Su Sigui inside the vehicle with anticipation. The next second, Su Sigui took two pieces from the pile of Yajin in her hand and naturally placed them into the soldier’s palm, which caused the corner of his eye to twitch uncontrollably, followed by a sigh full of disappointment.
After Su Sigui paid a certain amount of Yajin, their vehicle followed the other vehicles into the interior space of the "Sacred Summit." The place was different from where they had entered the day before—it was a vast square. People were casually chatting all around, there were soldiers in military uniforms, ordinary civilians in plain clothes talking with their companions, and sometimes laughter would burst out at a joke, the meaning of which wasn’t always clear.
Here, it was much more lively than when they had come yesterday. Aside from the sea of people outside, there were also a great number of busy individuals inside. Shortly after, they were led to a large iron gate. The gate was huge and standing in front of it one could truly feel their own insignificance; it seemed like a door only a giant could open.
After about ten seconds, the doors slid open to reveal a wide platform, the red lights on the ground turning green swiftly after the iron gate fully opened.
Under the direction of the soldiers inside, Yan Xing drove the car, following the other vehicles into the gate. It seemed to accommodate more than twenty vehicles before the huge iron doors behind them slowly closed.
"We are going up, going up!" Jinnah, Flora’s sister, cried out excitedly as she felt the platform begin to ascend, and the surrounding people all exchanged smiles.
During the ascent, Yan Xing asked the two sisters if they knew how to get to Khan’s palace and received a satisfactory answer, which put everyone at ease.
The ascent to the "Sacred Summit" wasn’t too long; Su Sigui could sense the speed of the platform’s rise—it took only about three or four minutes. The doors in front of them opened, different from the gate they had entered before.
Once they exited the gate, they finally saw the inner city scenery atop the "Sacred Summit," which was far more prosperous than the Outer City below—it could even be compared to the Magic Capital or Imperial City before the Apocalypse, and it was bustling with life!
They saw many people dressed in garments made of expensive fabric, and occasionally someone would pass by, giving them a glance. Flora’s sister was particularly excited, saying, "Look, these are the people who live inside the Inner City."
The streets of the Inner City were much wider than in the Outer City. They felt unprecedented smoothness driving on it, occasionally noticing street vendors peddling snacks, their calls mingling into a chorus that seemed to take one back to the time before the Apocalypse.
Back then, human cities were also bustling and prosperous like this.
Following Flora and her sister’s directions, Su Sigui and the others navigated through the streets like locals until they arrived at an intersection. At that point, Flora said, "Sister, we have arrived. If you are heading to Khan’s palace, just go straight ahead. When you see a crossroad with a large blue rock, turn left and keep going."
Yan Xing smoothly stopped the car, and Flora, holding her sister’s hand, jumped out, expressing gratitude towards Su Sigui, sensing that among the five in the vehicle, Su Sigui seemed to be the leader.
After giving them directions for the remainder of their journey, Flora and her sister prepared to leave, but then Su Sigui called out to stop them the next second.
"Wait a minute."
"What’s the matter?" Hearing Su Sigui’s voice, Flora and her sister quickly turned back, only to see Su Sigui stepping out of the car and looking towards a certain stall. There, was the very place Jinnah had been eyeing, the young girl interested in tasting it ever since they had come up from the Outer City; Su Sigui often saw her gazing at the snack stalls they passed by through the car window.
"Do you want to eat that?" Su Sigui asked; her eyes could see far off into the distance and naturally made out what the stall was selling—it seemed to be papaya water, but unlike the papaya water before the Apocalypse, the vendor was selling a finished product that included many fruits that appeared only during the Apocalypse.
Jinnah swallowed her saliva. Like other children her age, she was keen on both playing and eating. However, she was aware of their family’s living conditions. Although Ye Genya and her husband were new humans, they had only reached the extraordinary level, which Su Sigui understood to be equivalent to Level 2.
Though they were much stronger than ordinary people, perhaps because they had lived like mice before the Apocalypse, always hiding from danger, they were very humble. Therefore, they chose to work odd jobs or stable work within the Royal Court like ordinary people, and their lives were quite frugal. This trip to the Inner City left the sisters without much Yajin to spend frivolously; no matter how much they wanted to try those delicacies, they had to restrain themselves.
Jinnah nodded but then quickly shook her head, guessing what Su Sigui intended to do. She eagerly anticipated it, but Ye Genya and her husband had taught her sisters not to take advantage of strangers and certainly not to trust people they met outside the Royal Court.
Unaware of what Jinnah and Flora were thinking, Su Sigui smiled and pulled out several Yajin from her pocket, stuffing them directly into Jinnah’s hands.
The sisters looked at the coins, thrilled yet also slightly startled; six Yajin might not be a lot, but if used sparingly, it was close to a month’s living expenses for their family, and for them, it was a considerable sum!
"No! We can’t take this, big sister, please take it back."
