Chapter 125: Chapter 112: Not Personally Coming to ’Invite’ - 1
After evolving into a Level 3 zombie, Tang Ye had more than just these tentacles. The scales that had evolved on his shoulders could be manipulated at will, covering both his hands and turning into bladed arms.
Seeing that these zombies dared not approach him, Tang Ye had a rough idea of the situation. It appeared that after he evolved into a Level 3 zombie, these other undead no longer dared to compete with him for food. The gap between a Level 2 zombie and a Level 3 zombie was huge, and now that Tang Ye had become a Level 3, even the Level 2 zombie in front of him was afraid.
It was not like before when he was Level 2 - as long as there was a living human in his hand, they wouldn’t care whether or not he was a mighty one. They would continue to eat first and only yield to psychic control.
This Level 2 zombie howled, its eyes full of desire for flesh as it looked at the woman, and yet it dared not rashly approach because of the presence of Tang Ye, a zombie stronger than itself.
"Alright, consider yourself lucky."
Quietly retracting his scaly arm blades, Tang Ye turned his head and spoke to the woman in a terrifying hoarse voice through his mask.
At his words, she was slightly taken aback, her aimless gaze sweeping her surroundings, her eyes full of puzzlement.
"What’s going on? Why...Why aren’t they coming over? Why am...Ahh!"
The woman began to speak ecstatically, but before she could finish, Tang Ye, feeling impatient, reached out a hand and roughly grabbed her clothes from behind, flinging her into a second-floor room of a nearby building with its window open.
With a scream, the woman was tossed into the room, followed by the sounds of her crashing into various objects. Tang Ye didn’t care whether she was dead or alive. He had other things to attend to and had no interest in dealing with this stupid woman.
Tang Ye glanced at the Level 2 zombie in front of him, his eyes filling with excitement. Especially when he looked at its military boots, anyone could see the malicious intent in his gaze.
He tilted his neck from side to side, eliciting a series of bone-crunching sounds. Then he began to approach the Level 2 zombie, his eyes full of malevolence.
It seems to be innately terrified of Level 3 zombies and began to back away, but it was not as fast as Tang Ye, who soon reached its proximity.
The Level 2 zombie ceased its retreat, staring blankly at Tang Ye, occasional flashes of awe for the Level 3 zombie visible in its eyes.
His expression was unreadable behind the mask, and the zombie was too afraid to react, merely standing still. Just then, Tang Ye made his move.
Ten bone spikes shot out from his left arm and pinned the Level 2 zombie to the wall in an instant.
"The world is declining, kill for loot, hahaha." Tang Ye laughed as he walked over to it. After extracting the evolution crystal from its brain and removing its boots and trying them on himself, he found them to suit himself perfectly.
"Just right!"
He examined his outfit. Now all he needed were gloves. He had thrown away the ones he had taken from Chen Chaoyang back at Honglin High School, and now he needed a new pair.
But gloves were easy to find. Soon enough, Tang Ye found a pair of skeleton-designed gloves specially made for riders in a motorcycle shop. After happily putting them on, he returned to the building he had taken note of before. Extending two tentacles from his neck, he started to swing through the air towards the direction of Chen Chaoyang.
It took him less than ten minutes to reach Chen Chaoyang. Tang Ye didn’t bother to pay mind to Chen, who was nearly scared out of his wits by his sudden appearance, and he said, "Let’s go!"
With that, Tang Ye began strides towards Yindan Base, prompting Chen Chaoyang and the other to swiftly follow suit.
The centre of Yindan Base was a village within the city. The military had eradicated all zombies within a twenty-kilometer radius and built a twelve-meter high, 0.4-meter thick anti-zombie wall a certain distance away.
The original buildings within the base were used as living quarters for survivors, and the high buildings were remodeled into the Noble Zone, specifically for evolved humans. Before, some ordinary humans of high status could live there, but after an uprising of the evolved humans several days ago, all those reputable humans were either killed or enslaved.
The population within Yindan Base was over a hundred thousand people, all ordinary humans now living in dire straits. Regardless of how smart or crafty they were before the Apocalypse, it mattered not in this brutal post-apocalyptic world, where strength was the only law.
"What are those people doing? Weren’t they supposed to archive something? Why are they entering without doing anything with a card?"
Lying in a concealed area amidst the ruins of a building, Tang Ye watched the anti-zombie wall gate and asked Chen Chaoyang.
"Those are bounty hunters. They venture out to look for resources when they run out of food. That card allows them to bypass the review, or they have to bring some food to bribe the guards."
"So, that’s how you get in. Why didn’t you tell me sooner?"
"I of course knew, but Big Brother, you’re a zombie. They have machines that can detect the virus. You’d have to bypass them undetected."
"Oh."
Tang Ye murmured in acknowledgment as he stared at the entrance of Yindan Base in thought. He had originally thought that he could easily walk in with his power, but now he realized that the base was heavily fortified against zombies. Infiltrating it stealthily would be somewhat difficult.
He would need to find a flaw and take advantage of it to enter.
Six days later, Tang Ye deeply inhaled. The humidity in the air made him somewhat uncomfortable as a zombie, but it also brought a sense of anticipation. The white fog in the distance was creeping over Hua City.
It would not take long for the fog to reach its peak. Glancing at his new digital watch, it would be dark in two hours.
After that and another five hours, he might find an opportunity to infiltrate the base. During his surveillance, Tang Ye had identified a loophole in the guards’ routine.
He had observed that the guards worked in three shifts. Every night at nine o’clock, a new batch would come to guard the base. At nine in the morning, another group of soldiers would take over.
At nine tonight, Tang Ye could take advantage of the changing of the guard and the increasing density of the fog to sneak into Yindan Base unnoticed!
As Tang Ye thought, he gestured with his mind, and Ah Fu, who was not far away, stood and walked towards Chen Chaoyang. Chen and the other, who were idly snacking, saw Ah Fu’s movement and quickly stood up in fright.
In the last six days, whenever Tang Ye required their assistance, he had never personally approached them. Instead, Ah Fu would bring them to him.
