Chapter 1159: Chapter 1154: Concealing One’s Abilities is Not One Person’s Monopoly
The Dead Knight Corps’ flying army was incredibly fast; after just a short while, word came from the communications soldier nearby that enemy units had been spotted by the Dead Knight Corps.
The very next second, Tang Ye and his companions felt the ground tremor violently. A cloud of dust erupted several kilometers away. Despite the distance, everyone present was by no means weak and had visual acuity to match, allowing them to see the scene clearly.
When Chen Zhou’an, who was flying in the sky, spotted those eight oddly-dressed people far away, his eyebrows furrowed, his intuition telling him that the exoskeleton combat suits they were wearing were anything but simple!
The vanguard of the Dead Knight Corps were the first to approach these eight, but just as they drew near in that one second, a violent tornado quickly erupted, scattering members of the Dead Knight Corps in all directions!
"Boss, something’s not right; we may have to join in," said Xu Haishui, frowning next to Tang Ye. He noticed something distinctly familiar about the colors of the exoskeleton combat suits worn by those eight.
Tang Ye nodded, he had noticed it too.
In the air and on the ground, the roars of zombie beasts resounded, and bloodthirsty, crazed eyes were fixed on the eight invaders. Under the soldiers’ control, they charged fearlessly forward. Mouthfuls of dark red, viscous liquid spewed from the mouths of the zombie wolves, shooting dozens of meters like water from a squirt gun.
These liquids carried a potent corrosive property, yet when splashed upon the odd group of eight, they caused no harm. They seemed as innocuous as ordinary water, dealing no damage at all.
On the other hand, each punch and kick from the attackers bore tremendous destructive power. The Dead Knights heading towards them were blasted away in large numbers. Every stomp from a Level 7 New Human made the earth tremble uncontrollably. At Tang Ye’s location, the trembling earth jolted people so much that they could barely stand. Some even fell to the ground, looking towards the initiating battle with shock and fear.
"Level 7 New Humans, oh my god!"
"Get moving, Marshal is here too, if those bad guys come over and start a fight, we’re all dead!"
Upon realizing that Level 7 New Humans had joined the fray, people began to panic!
Once the Level 7 New Humans made their move, the power they unleashed was akin to a disaster!
"Hurry up and keep up."
Peace Party soldiers nearby ushered the crowd toward safety. On the streets, there was nothing else to be seen but a dense mass of people pushing forward like zombies in a desolate city.
The Dead Knight Corps split into two groups to attack those eight, but to no avail, as each member of the eight was formidable. Even the weakest among them would be considered a general in the United District. The Dead Knight Corps had eliminated zombie beasts and some relatively weak soldiers who had stagnated and were no longer qualified for service in their ranks. However, they still struggled to withstand the attacks from such a powerful enemy!
A singularly powerful individual could challenge an entire army!
Watching the Dead Knights fall one by one, the group of eight slaughtered freely as if in a land without any adversaries. Tang Ye raised his hand and shouted, "Everyone, come back."
His voice wasn’t loud, but it eerily penetrated so that everyone could hear Tang Ye clearly. Following his words, the eight dropped the corpses they held and ceased their attack, while the host of Dead Knights quickly regrouped, cautiously watching them.
Tang Ye from several kilometers away locked eyes with one of the Level 7 New Humans among the eight and said calmly, "No need to keep fighting. It seems they’re here for us. Continuing the battle would only mean senseless sacrifice."
Chen Zhou’an nodded and ordered all the Dead Knights to retreat. The pile of corpses around those eight looked somewhat tragic, and blood and pus from the zombie beasts stained their exoskeleton combat suits. There weren’t even any scratches on their suits, which was precisely why Tang Ye had ordered the Dead Knight Corps to stop their assault; continuing would only deplete their numbers against the stamina of these eight.
The air grew silent for a few seconds, when Tang Ye opened his mouth and said, "Who are you? What brings you to the United District?"
As soon as Tang Ye said this, the eight of them moved in unison, pressing a control pad on their waists. The next second, "click-clack, click-clack," the head coverings on their heads retracted, and a glint flashed in Tang Ye’s eyes.
These were actually connected-head exoskeleton suits, a technology sufficiently complex to suggest that the origins of these individuals were no simple matter.
However, just as Tang Ye got a good look at the eight individuals, his eyes suddenly narrowed.
It wasn’t because these eight people all looked identical, but because he recognized their faces!
The trusted Base Commander from Pingnan Base, namely the man surnamed Ning who had easily handed over the control of Pingnan Base to him. Although Tang Ye hadn’t paid particular attention to his appearance, his memory wasn’t bad, and he quickly recalled when and where he had seen that face!
"Is it you?" Tang Ye asked.
However, the other party did not speak; eight pairs of eyes just stared at Tang Ye.
"I recognize you."
"You recognize us, but we don’t recognize you. You know one of us, not all of us," the eight replied indifferently, speaking simultaneously. Their tone and voice matched their appearance, perfectly overlapping with extreme precision.
Tang Ye’s brow furrowed. The meaning of this statement seemed to imply that there were more people with this face than just these eight—there were others?
"What are you doing here?"
"You should... understand that those who are overconfident will not end well, and absolute confidence will only destroy oneself. The United District has no qualifications to confront Cloud Gorge Base."
"Are you from Cloud Gorge Base?" Tang Ye asked again.
But the eight did not speak again. Their heads were once again covered by exoskeleton helmets, a faint light shimmering across the visor, and the frost blood on their shoulders was swept away by a wave of heat, rapidly melting.
Tang Ye looked at them, already knowing the answer in his heart. These eight people were from Cloud Gorge Base.
Ah Fu and Xu Haishui stepped forward, their gazes becoming more and more severe. Xu Haishui said, "Wearing the Aurora Breathers of Cloud Gorge Base and possessing identical faces—Order Enforcers."
The eight slightly raised their heads to look at Xu Haishui, seemingly surprised that he recognized who they were. However, they still had to complete their mission.
"Is Marshal Li prepared?" asked one of the Level 7 New Humans indifferently.
Tang Ye just smiled, looking relaxed as if regarding them as fools.
"Don’t you know that hiding one’s capabilities is not the exclusive right of anyone?"
