Chapter 1102: Chapter 1099: Get out of here quickly!

That viscous, syrup-like substance sprayed towards the sky, oozing out an indescribable scent, then fell like rain. It was as if someone was sitting in a helicopter, continually dousing the ground with water. However, this was not water, but the inner juices of some revolting creature!

People watched as clumps of pus dispersed into countless droplets in the air, then scattered all around, afraid to be contaminated. After all the trouble of getting rid of the mutations, being infected now would be an utter injustice.

What remained before people’s eyes were those chains of flesh and blood dominating the sky. The distant whirlwind roared with a ’whoosh whoosh whoosh’ sound, but indeed, ever since the mutants turned to mush and flattened out, the sandstorm seemed to have come to a halt on the spot, the winds blowing only in place.

It appeared as though the sandstorm was spectating something.

Before long, behind the densely packed crowd of onlookers outside the defense line, people began to be pushed aside in succession.

"Make way! Make way!

"Hurry, clear a path for everyone!"

Hearing the voices behind them, people instinctively turned to look, seeing a group of Peace Party soldiers emerging from the rear, shoving through and dispersing the crowd.

"Quick, the Vice President has arrived!" Someone within the ranks of the Peace Party soldiers shouted out an identity. Upon hearing ’Vice President,’ the crowd swiftly parted. In the United District, besides the Marshal, the two Vice Presidents essentially possessed overwhelming authority, ranked just below one and above tens of thousands. They had absolute status within the United District.

Thus, upon hearing these words, the crowd promptly made way. Shouts rang out, alerting those who hadn’t heard that the Vice President was coming, and in no time, a pathway had opened amidst the thronging crowd, exclusively for the advancing Peace Party soldiers and the Vice President.

Ah Fu led his group to the front line, glancing over at the sandstorm; unlike the others, he didn’t show curiosity in his eyes because he knew that sandstorm was none other than his own boss, Tang Ye!

"How did Old Xu get turned into that sorry state?" Ah Fu was more curious about Xu Haishui than Tang Ye. Before he reached the front of the crowd, he had seen from a distance the blood and flesh chains extending from Xu Haishui’s body. These chains had formidable adhesive power; of the hundreds of chains, aside from those that had initially shot straight up into the sky, the rest clung vigorously to the ruins of buildings and to the ground itself.

Initially, Ah Fu had not identified the phenomenon and mistook it for some bizarre offshoot created by the cursed mutants. However, as Ah Fu approached, he detected a very familiar scent among them. This scent belonged to Xu Haishui. Yet, Ah Fu couldn’t understand why he had transformed in such a way, and the scent felt somewhat unfamiliar.

It seemed his evolution deviated towards some unknown path.

Ah Fu’s mutter was faint, but besides Xu Changchi and Little Wu, the two generals beside him were Level 5 powerhouses. Since Ah Fu was so close, they naturally heard his muttering.

"Ah? That thing is Vice President Xu."

Ah Fu paused, then glanced at him and casually replied, "Don’t know."

His response caused a bit of awkwardness across the faces of the surrounding Peace Party soldiers. Had they misheard, or had this powerful Vice President misspoken?

Regardless, they did not bother to inquire further. They had been taught before the Apocalypse that when someone of higher status mentioned something beyond their comprehension, it was best not to interrupt, as not only would it fail to make them memorable, it could provoke their annoyance. This was the most basic respect one could show to those higher in status.

The area grew surprisingly quiet, save for the continued howling of the sandstorm. The sharp cries of the mutants were no longer heard, and people just gazed upon the countless blood-soaked chains linked to various places.

About two minutes had passed when the ground shook violently, causing nearly a hundred people to lose their balance and collapse to the ground.

"What the heck, an earthquake?"

"What’s going on here?"

"Look over there!"

This sudden tremor caused several decrepit old houses in the distance to collapse on the spot!

People had barely reacted when someone with keen eyesight spotted the blood and flesh chains on Xu Haishui’s transformed ’sea urchin’ body suddenly contracting!

Chains clutched onto various places forcefully dragged up massive chunks of concrete! It all happened so abruptly, large rocks tethered by the chains smashed towards Xu Haishui, and in a flash, he was buried beneath a heap of cement debris!

About another four or five seconds later, the spot where Xu Haishui was buried erupted like it had been hit by a bomb, sending chunks of cement scattering like dust in an instant!

Er ~ He ~

A prolonged roar resonated, piercing through people’s eardrums. Its penetrative power was so extreme, it seemed to bypass the eardrum directly into the soul, shattering it entirely!

At the same time, the sandstorm took notice of the anomaly here, the vast swirling sands curling inward slightly as if anticipating something.

When the concrete dust cleared from above Xu Haishui, his figure emerged, floating in mid-air. By then, his physique had returned to its previous size, nearly human in proportion.

Because of the distance, many could only see a silhouette with something arrayed behind it, but Ah Fu, with his sharp eyes, immediately recognized who it was.

It was Xu Haishui.

"What exactly happened to him?" His eyes narrowed. Though Xu Haishui was far from him, Ah Fu could see very clearly that this Xu Haishui looked somewhat different from the one he had known before.

His skin had shifted from a slightly dark silver to a tan silver, crawling with spider-web-like veins. Spines grew from his back, many branched like tree limbs, bending sharply at their tips, in total, sixteen spikes aligned neatly upon Xu Haishui’s back.

Under the rising sun, the vein patterns on Xu Haishui’s skin glistened ominously.

He could not hover in the air for long and soon fell to the ground. From afar, Ah Fu seemed to notice something falling from Xu Haishui’s body, and with Xu Haishui as his reference, he quickly estimated that these objects were about the size of two human fingers put together.

They fell too swiftly, and soon Ah Fu could no longer see them, but quickly he shouted at the people, "Get away from here fast!"
