Chapter 1047: Chapter 1043: Parasitic Change 8

Lin Jie instantly recognized it as a silver-armored zombie, and as the cage sped towards him, he did not show the slightest hint of panic. In his eyes, the cage moved sluggishly, not nearly fast enough to be feared. However, what enraged him was that someone dared to lay hands on him!

With a quick step, Lin Jie dodged to the side, and the cage flew past him. The person operating the cage’s lift looked on with a face full of frustration.

"F*ck! Die! Damn surface dweller!"

With an angry shout, the operator tried to swing the locking hooks back at Lin Jie, but before he could maneuver it, Lin Jie raised his leg and swept at the cage, breaking it apart. The cage that could contain a Level 4 silver-armored zombie was directly shattered by Lin Jie’s kick, sending it flying even farther with a loud "clang".

Ahead lay a pit fifty meters in diameter, excavated by humans and cemented.

The strength of a Level 7 New Human was unleashed, and the iron chain holding the cage simply couldn’t withstand it, snapping in two. As the cage flew farther and was destroyed, the silver-armored zombie inside gained its freedom.

Seeing the broken gap in the cage, it roared excitedly, its gaze fixated on Lin Jie. The rich, ocean-like blood scent on him assaulted its sense of smell, but before it could climb out, both it and the cage fell into the huge pit.

"Bring him down!" Lin Jie pointed at the operator in the cabin above and coldly commanded. Sun Wen, in a daze, responded and climbed towards the operator, while Lin Jie walked towards the pit.

Looking down into the seemingly bottomless pit, Lin Jie narrowed his eyes slightly. He watched as both the silver-armored zombie and the iron cage fell into the pit, their bodies rapidly disintegrating. In less than ten seconds, as though swallowed by some invisible monster, they vanished without a trace, not even leaving dust behind!

The sight of the silver-armored zombie’s body gradually disappearing was fully witnessed by Lin Jie, making him feel uneasy, and he even took a step back.

Turning his head to look at a controlled Level 4 New Human, Lin Jie asked in an unusually solemn tone.

"What is that?"

The questioned man glanced quickly and replied, "It’s for particle collisions, the nuclear power station is just ahead."

Lin Jie simply nodded, then pointing to Sun Wen who had now seized the cabin’s operator, he said, "Tomorrow, you and he will organize ten people, head out to the shelter, walk in the southwest direction, and find the United District Sanctuary City."

"United District Sanctuary City?"

Hearing Lin Jie’s words, the Level 4 New Human in front of him appeared slightly stunned, and Lin Jie simply smiled, his intentions unclear.

"There are many people there, your mission is to join an organization called the Peace Party."

The Level 4 New Human before him hesitated inwardly, but he dared not show any surprise on his face. He steeled his nerves and agreed, not because of anything but because Lin Jie’s prior warning was too chilling. He definitely didn’t want to be killed by this madman and turned into a doll for his daughter.

On the other side of Longyang City, after Sun Wen and three others left the team to return to the shelter, the remaining eight headed towards the south of the city. Suddenly, someone in the distance saw a black line stretching for miles and, driven by curiosity, headed in that direction.

"How much farther is it?"

"Why is it so far?"

"Man, what exactly is that?"

"It seems like a wall..."

"What kind of wall is so high?"

"Let’s go take a look."

"Wei Ba, let’s go!"

After stowing away the binoculars, Wei Ba jumped down from a high place. Because the distance was too great, even with binoculars, they could only see vague thick lines, but even so, they felt the grandeur of that long black line.

Another soldier looked at the sky and said to his companion, "It’s getting late, shouldn’t we be heading back? I’m worried it might be dangerous at night."

As the soldier spoke, others also began to hesitate. The refuge had been open for three days, yet they had not stayed overnight once, and they did not know if there would be any dangers at night.

However, the man called Wei Ba seemed unconcerned, casually saying, "What’s there to fear? Let’s go and see. Maybe we’ll find something."

"Alright."

The team thought it over and finally decided to explore. To avoid unforeseen dangers, everyone put on their thick armor and headed toward the distant black horizon.

As they got closer to that black horizon line, the eight of them could see more clearly—it indeed was a wall! It stood forty meters high, robust and magnificent, and the conspicuous laser cannon tubes on the wall indicated that it was built by humans.

This discovery exhilarated them. They seemed to have found a gathering place for survivors. The only odd thing was, why were there no zombies around? Where had they gone?

As the sky grew darker, the group turned on their flashlights and proceeded in the dark, remaining vigilant of any potential dangers that might emerge from the shadowy surroundings.

It was then that Wei Ba suddenly raised a hand, signaling everyone to stop.

"What’s up?"

"Hide."

"Why?"

"There seems to be someone ahead."

"Someone?"

"Where?"

Wei Ba’s words piqued everyone’s curiosity. They moved ahead to see that there was indeed a light in the distance on the street, about five to six hundred meters from them.

"There really is someone!"

"Turn off the flashlights."

Wei Ba said with a frown, as he and the others had their flashlights on, the people on the other side must have seen them since the light in the dark was very conspicuous.

For some reason, it seemed that even though the opposite side had seen them, they did not appear to heed their presence.

With the help of the light, Wei Ba and the others could see several figures moving under the light ahead. They crouched occasionally, doubled over as if in laughter.

Next to them was a vehicle, with some people leaning on it and others sitting on the hood. The figures exhaled puffs of white mist, which was easily visible under the light.

"Who are those people?"

"F*ck, these people even have cigarettes."

"They must be survivors from the surface."

"Look at their clothes, why are they all..."

One of the soldiers, confused because he was a Level 3 New Human, could see what kind of clothes the people under the light were wearing. Those clothes were not normal at all; they were bodysuits. Strangely, these people had backpacks on their backs, with four to five tracks on the bodysuits and seemingly a logo on the chest, but because of the distance, it was hard for them to make out the specifics of the logo.

If a resident of the United District were here, they would recognize at a glance that those in bodysuits were soldiers from the Peace Party.
