Chapter 76: The Epidemic
The quiet of the evening was shattered as the sound of the front gate creaked open.
Adam, waiting anxiously in the living room, sprang to his feet and rushed toward the entrance.
His heart pounded with a mixture of anticipation and dread.
As he reached the door, he saw his parents stepping inside, their faces pale and breaths labored.
Relief washed over Adam as he ran to his mother, Rachel, and hugged her tightly.
Adam was very worried about his parents, he had never worried about them so much before, so he quickly created Toshiba.
He didn’t even examine Toshiba properly and sent him away to protect his parents after he was created within seconds of his birth.
She reciprocated, a faint smile crossing her lips as she gently patted his back.
"Dear, close the gate," Rachel said softly, addressing her husband. Ricky nodded, quickly shutting the gate behind them.
"We need to secure the house," Ricky said, his voice heavy with urgency. "Lock all the windows and make sure the house is sealed."
Adam did as instructed, moving swiftly to close the windows while his parents settled in the living room.
Once done, he returned to find his father seated on the couch, his mother resting beside him.
"What happened? How did you find out about all this?" Adam asked, concern etched on his face.
Ricky exhaled deeply, leaning back in his chair. "We took the train early this morning, but everything changed before we even reached our destination. The army boarded the train and ordered everyone to return home. They told us an epidemic is spreading across the country."
Rachel added, her voice trembling, "We thought of you, Adam. We didn’t want you to be alone in case anything happened, so we rushed back. It was exhausting, but we had to make sure you were safe."
Adam’s chest tightened, but a small smile broke through. "I was so worried about you both. I’m glad you’re safe."
Their conversation was interrupted as Ricky switched on the television.
The screen displayed a news studio, the anchor’s voice trembling as she relayed the grim reality.
"Our ground reporters have been attacked," she began, her tone somber. "We urge all citizens to remain indoors. The epidemic spreading through the country is unlike anything we’ve seen."
"The government has declared a state of emergency, deploying the military to maintain order. Schools and colleges are shut down, and only essential services are operational."
Rachel reached for the remote and switched off the TV abruptly. Ricky turned to her, confusion evident. "Why did you turn it off?"
"I can’t bear to watch it anymore," Rachel replied, her voice shaky. "It’s too much."
Ricky placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We’ll be fine. We just need to stay put and trust the government to handle this."

As they spoke, Adam’s companions, Sona and Toshiba, entered the room. Sona, a small psychic spirit with shimmering wings, perched on Rachel’s shoulder. Toshiba, psychic spirit, soon followed, landing on Adam’s other shoulder.
Adam sighed and stood. "I’m heading to my room. Call me if you need anything."
Rachel nodded. "Alright, Adam. Be careful."
Adam climbed the stairs, Sona and Toshiba fluttering after him. Once inside his room, Adam closed the door and leaned against it, his mind racing.
Turning to Sona, he asked, "What’s the situation outside?"
Sona tilted her head, her golden eyes reflecting worry. "Lord Adam, the situation is dire. Power holders across the country have been secretly building armies. Now, their creations—vampires—are spreading chaos."
Adam’s breath caught. "Vampires? Are you sure?"
"Yes," Sona replied. "And the worst part is, once someone transforms into a vampire, they can’t return to being human. At least not by conventional means."
Adam looked to Toshiba. "Do you know of any way to reverse it?"
Toshiba shook his head. "I’m afraid not, Lord Adam. Neither Sona nor I possess the skills to undo this transformation."
Adam clenched his fists, his mind reeling. "There has to be a way," he muttered. "There’s always a way."
Before he could think further, Rachel’s voice called out from downstairs. "Adam, come quickly!"
Adam bolted out of his room, Sona and Toshiba trailing behind. He reached the dining room to find his father staring intently at the television.
On the screen was a young man, no older than nineteen, with striking white hair and piercing blue eyes.
Clad in a school uniform, he hovered effortlessly in midair, defying gravity without the aid of wings.
The scene shifted to show a horde of vampires approaching the young man. They were feral and menacing, their eyes glowing red as they snarled and lunged.
The young man raised a hand, his voice echoing through the air. "Kneel."
The command resonated with an otherworldly force.
The vampires froze mid-step before collapsing to the ground, their bodies trembling as if pinned by an invisible weight.
The earth beneath them cracked and crumbled, the sheer force emanating from the boy pushing them deeper into the ground.
Blood began seeping from the vampires’ bodies, their veins bursting under the pressure.
One by one, they exploded, leaving only gore and ash in their wake.
The news anchor’s voice trembled as she narrated the scene. "This unidentified individual has just eliminated over thirty vampires single-handedly, saving countless lives."
The footage continued, showing the boy picking up a stone from the ground. With a flick of his wrist, he hurled it at a fleeing group of vampires.
The stone moved faster than the eye could follow, breaking the sound barrier before striking its target.
The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the area, obliterating several vampires instantly. The survivors, terrified, scattered into the area.
The camera panned to the boy once more. He stood amidst the carnage, calm and resolute, his eyes scanning the horizon.
Adam’s heart raced as he watched. Who was this boy? And how had he gained such immense power in short amount of time?
The Chapter ended with Adam staring at the screen, his mind brimming with questions and unease about what lay ahead.
