Chapter 63: A Day at the Mall

The faint buzz of Adam’s phone broke the monotony of his quiet room.

He leaned back in his chair, eyes narrowing at the name flashing on the screen—Sakura Takura.

"Hello?" Adam answered, keeping his tone casual.

"Hey, Adam," Sakura’s voice came through, cheerful yet slightly hesitant. "Are you free right now?"

Adam raised an eyebrow, surprised. He rarely got calls like this, especially from someone like her. "Uh, yeah, I’m free. Why?"

"Great! Can you come with me to the mall?" Sakura’s request caught him completely off guard.

"The mall? Right now?" Adam’s voice reflected his confusion.

"Yes, right now," she replied firmly. Then, softening her tone, she added, "If you’re busy, it’s okay..."

Adam hesitated for a moment before sighing. "Alright, give me 15-20 minutes to get ready."

"Perfect," Sakura said, her excitement clear. "Once you’re ready, call me back. I’ll send you the location."

Adam hung up, staring at his phone for a moment, still processing the sudden invitation. Shaking his head, he muttered, "This is going to be interesting."

He pushed himself away from his desk, walking toward his wardrobe.

Pulling it open, he scanned his clothes, deciding on something suitable.

After some thought, he picked out a black coat, black pants, and a plain white T-shirt—simple yet stylish.

Just as he was about to leave, his mother, Rachel, stepped into the hallway.

She caught sight of him, now dressed up and ready to head out.

"Adam? Aren’t you supposed to have the day off from school? Where are you going all dressed up?" Rachel asked, suspicion lacing her tone.

Adam adjusted his coat and replied casually, "I’m just going to meet Leo."

Rachel watched him leave, her brows furrowing. "He’s never dressed up like this to meet Leo before... Could he be meeting a girl?" she wondered aloud.

From the living room, Adam’s father, Ricky, chuckled. "Don’t worry so much, Rachel. He’s at that age now—let him enjoy himself."

Outside, Adam called Sakura. "I’m ready," he informed her.

"Great! I’ve sent you the location. Check your map and meet me there," Sakura said, hanging up after a quick goodbye.

At the Mall -

Fifteen minutes later, Adam stood at the edge of a bustling street.

It was Sunday, and the marketplace was teeming with people—families strolling, couples chatting, and shoppers darting between stores.

Behind him, a towering mall loomed, its sleek glass facade gleaming in the sunlight. He glanced around, scanning the crowd for Sakura.

And then he saw her.

Sakura approached him, dressed in a white, flowy frock that accentuated her slim figure.

Her crimson hair cascaded down her shoulders, and her black eyes sparkled under the sunlight.

Adam couldn’t help but notice how striking she looked, the outfit amplifying her natural beauty.

"Wow," Sakura said, stopping in front of him. "You look great in that outfit!"

Adam rubbed the back of his neck, his cheeks tinged with pink. "Uh, thanks... You look amazing too."

Sakura smiled warmly. "Thank you."

"Shall we?" she asked, gesturing toward the mall behind him.

"Sure," Adam replied.

But before he could take a step, Sakura slipped her hand into his.

The sudden contact made his heart skip a beat. He stiffened, unsure of how to react.

"Sona, activate telepathy or mind-reading right now," Adam thought, addressing the small companion perched invisibly on his shoulder.

Sona, his ever-loyal helper, chuckled softly before replying, "Alright, activating now."

---

As they entered the mall, Sona’s voice echoed in Adam’s mind, relaying Sakura’s thoughts.

"This is so exciting! I’ve always wanted to do this—go shopping with a friend. I have so many outfits I want to try, and I can finally ask someone how they look on me!"

Adam’s expression softened. He hadn’t expected someone as confident and composed as Sakura—the student council president and a school idol—to feel so alone.

Sakura led him into a boutique filled with racks of designer dresses.

She darted from one section to another, pulling out outfits and vanishing into the fitting room.

Each time she emerged, she twirled in front of him, seeking his opinion.

"What do you think of this one?" she asked, modeling a sleek red dress.

"It looks... nice," Adam said awkwardly.

"Nice? That’s it?" Sakura pouted, her playful tone making him smile despite himself.

The process repeated with several outfits—floral patterns, bold colors, elegant gowns.

Each time, Sakura eagerly awaited his feedback, her excitement infectious.

Meanwhile, Adam’s mind raced with a different kind of thought. What would my friends think if they saw me here? With Sakura Takura, of all people? They’d never let me hear the end of it.

Hours passed, and Sakura finally decided on a few outfits. She turned to Adam with a triumphant smile. "I’m starving. Let’s grab something to eat."

---

As they walked toward the food court, Sona’s voice interrupted Adam’s thoughts.

"Lord Adam, I just sensed some strange power nearby. And he’s... volatile."

Adam immediately stiffened, his gaze darting around the crowded mall.

"What’s wrong?" Sakura asked, noticing his sudden pause.

Adam forced a smile. "Nothing. I just remembered something important I need to take care of."

Sakura frowned, concern flashing across her face. "Are you sure? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, yeah," Adam assured her. "I’m really sorry, but I have to go. I’ll make it up to you—I promise. We can go shopping again sometime, anytime you want."

Sakura hesitated before nodding. "Okay, if it’s really that important. Don’t worry about it."

"Thanks," Adam said, giving her an apologetic smile. "I’ll see you later."

As Sakura walked away, Adam turned his attention back to the mall. The crowd buzzed with activity—families browsing toy stores, couples sharing snacks, groups of teens laughing near the arcade. The noise was overwhelming, but Adam’s focus was razor-sharp.

"Sona," he whispered. "Where’s the power holder?"

"Two floors above us. I’ll guide you," Sona replied.

"I need to see him as soon as possible. Is he a threat to us?"

With that, Adam moved purposefully toward the escalators, ready to confront whatever—or whoever—awaited him.
