Chapter 272: A Surprise News
Chapter: A Surprise News
---
The Chapter opens with Adam seated in his dimly lit room. The soft glow of his computer screen illuminates his face, casting long shadows on the walls.
The air is heavy with tension as he scrolls through rows of detailed reports and profiles compiled by Pratham.
The screen flickers occasionally, displaying the images of power holders who had been active in the public eye.
Adam’s gaze settles on three profiles: Zora, Atlas, and Hang.
Their faces appear stern and focused in the images, accompanied by data about their abilities, significant encounters, and their current affiliations within The Union.
Adam leaned closer to the screen, the faint hum of the computer the only sound in the room.
"These clones..." he muttered under his breath. His fingers tapped against the desk rhythmically as he processed the information.
"If they’ve managed to replicate Sona, Tayo, and Ninja, it’s entirely possible they could have done the same with Zora, Atlas, or Hang. But how?"
Adam feels that there is a high possibility that this enemy would have copied all the power holders that have appeared till date, take Logan for example
Adam reclined slightly in his chair, rubbing his temples as the weight of the situation pressed on him.
"This isn’t just mimicry," he said aloud, as if confirming his own thoughts. "It’s replication—down to the powers and essence. Whoever’s behind this... they’re playing a dangerous game."
Adam has to find out about this enemy as quickly as possible because he is afraid that if this enemy sees him, it will be very difficult for him.
He exhaled deeply, crossing his arms as his eyes moved back to the profiles.
"Revealing myself—or any of my creations—too soon would be a mistake. We’d lose the upper hand. No..." Adam paused, his tone firm.
"We wait. We let them make the first move. When they do, we’ll be ready."
A faint vibration from his pocket jolted him from his thoughts. Adam frowned slightly, reaching for his phone and placing it on the desk.
The screen lit up with a notification, breaking the silence of the room.
Unlocking his phone, Adam skimmed the message. His eyes widened slightly as he read its contents. It was from his school—a notification he hadn’t anticipated.
The message read:
Dear Students,
We are pleased to inform you that classes will resume tomorrow. Please be prepared to attend.
Thank you.
Adam stared at the screen for a moment, letting the words sink in. A dry chuckle escaped his lips.
"So the government declares the vampire threat neutralized, and the school wastes no time reopening," he mused. His tone carried a hint of sarcasm but also amusement.
Setting his phone back on the desk, Adam allowed himself a brief smile. "It’s not such a bad thing," he muttered to himself.
"At least I’ll get to see everyone again. After weeks of... this..." He gestured vaguely toward the computer screen, cluttered with ominous data and predictions. "It might be nice to feel normal again—at least for a little while."
Adam’s phone buzzed again, this time with an incoming call.
He glanced at the caller ID, expecting it to be one of his friends excited about the school announcement.
His brows raised slightly when he saw the name Ani.
Answering the call, Adam leaned back in his chair. "Hey, Ani. Let me guess—you’ve seen the message?"
"Adam!" Ani’s voice was brimming with enthusiasm. "I knew you’d read it! School starts tomorrow. Are you excited to finally go back to normal life?"
Adam chuckled softly, his tone carrying a hint of melancholy. "Normal life..." he repeated. He paused, his mind flashing to recent events. "I don’t think that’s possible anymore, Ani."
Ani’s excitement faded, replaced by concern. "What do you mean, Adam? Did something happen?"
Adam sighed inwardly, realizing his slip. Why do I always make her worry? he thought, mentally chastising himself.
Recovering quickly, he laughed lightly. "No, no, it’s nothing like that. I just meant... things feel different now, you know? Going back to school feels a little strange after everything that’s happened."
Ani hesitated on the other end of the line before finally responding. "Oh... I guess that makes sense," she said, her voice brightening again.
Ani’s cheerfulness returned as she continued, "I’m just excited we’ll finally get to go back to school together. It feels like it’s been ages since we had a normal day."
Her words brought a wave of nostalgia crashing over Adam.
He could clearly picture their past—walking to school together in the crisp morning air, sharing jokes during lunch breaks, and staying late for group projects.
Those memories felt like remnants of a simpler, happier time.
A genuine smile crept onto Adam’s face. "I’m excited too," he admitted, his voice soft but sincere.
Ani, on the other end of the call, felt her cheeks flush with warmth.
She tried to keep her tone steady as she said, "I’ll... I’ll wait for you tomorrow morning."
Adam couldn’t resist teasing her. "I’ll be there," he promised. "Maybe I’ll even show up an hour early—just for you."
Ani giggled nervously, quickly ending the call to hide her embarrassment. Adam set the phone down, his smile lingering.
For the first time in weeks, he felt a fleeting sense of peace.
The weight of his responsibilities seemed to lift, replaced by the simple anticipation of seeing Ani and his other friends again.
The room fell silent once more, the faint hum of the computer the only sound.
Adam leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling as his thoughts shifted between the looming threats of clones and the promise of returning to school.
"One step at a time," he murmured.
With a deep breath, Adam reached for the computer and shut it down.
The glow of the screen faded, leaving the room in near darkness.
Despite the challenges ahead, Adam allowed himself a flicker of hope as he prepared for the day to come.
The Chapter ends with Adam standing up, glancing out the window at the distant horizon, and readying himself for the next phase of his journey.
