Chapter 271: Lily’s Contemplation
Chapter: Lily’s Contemplation
---
Lily sat in her room, her emerald-green eyes fixed on the ornate ceiling, lost in thought.
The stillness of the space was palpable, broken only by the faint rustling of fabric as she shifted slightly in her chair.
A warm shaft of sunlight filtered through the paper screens of the sliding door, casting soft patterns on the polished wooden floor.
The weight of her father’s distant behavior lingered heavily on her mind.
She exhaled deeply, trying to make sense of it all. "Ever since he saw what I could do, he’s been avoiding me," she murmured. Her voice was soft, almost fragile. "Why? Wasn’t this power supposed to bring us closer, to make him proud?"
Lily thought that after knowing about her power, her father would be very proud of her and would spend more and more time with her, but just the opposite is happening.
The words hung in the air, unanswered. She let her head fall back against the cushioned chair, her fingers idly tracing the intricate carvings on its armrests.
The room, adorned with traditional Japanese furnishings, felt suffocating despite its spaciousness.
Suddenly, a thought jolted her out of her reverie. There was something she needed to address, something urgent.
Straightening up, Lily pushed herself to her feet. Her robes, a rich brown hue embroidered with delicate gold patterns, swayed as she moved toward the sliding door.
She reached out, her slender fingers brushing against the cool bamboo frame, and pulled it aside. The soft swish of the door revealed the corridor beyond.
The corridor was quiet, the air carrying the faint aroma of cherry blossoms drifting in from the gardens outside.
As Lily stepped out, her purposeful strides echoed gently against the wooden floor. Her gaze was sharp, her mind focused on the task ahead.
As she rounded a corner, a figure appeared in the distance—a maid, her steps hurried and deliberate.
The maid’s traditional attire was neatly pressed, but there was a tension in her posture that betrayed her unease.
Upon spotting Lily, she immediately stopped and bowed deeply, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke.
"Lily-sama," she said hesitantly, "is there anything you need?"
Lily halted, her piercing gaze locking onto the maid. "I’m going to meet my father," she replied curtly. Her tone was sharp, each word carrying an air of authority.
The maid hesitated, her fingers clutching the folds of her apron.
She inhaled sharply before mustering the courage to speak. "Lily-sama, the head of the clan is unavailable at the moment," she said softly.
Lily’s eyes narrowed, her expression hardening. "What nonsense are you talking about?" she demanded.
The maid straightened slightly, though her voice remained cautious. "I just came from his room. He is currently in a meeting with the finance department. He specifically instructed that he is not to be disturbed," she explained quickly, her words tumbling out as though she feared Lily’s reaction.
Lily took a step forward, her presence towering despite her relatively petite frame. "And you waited outside my room to tell me this?" she asked, her tone icy.
The maid flinched but stood her ground. "I was only following orders, Lily-sama. I have done nothing wrong," she replied, her voice trembling despite her effort to appear composed.
For a moment, the tension in the corridor was palpable.
Lily’s sharp gaze bore into the maid, who struggled to maintain her composure. But then, to the maid’s surprise, Lily’s expression softened.
"Why are you so afraid?" Lily asked, a faint smile curling her lips. "Don’t worry, I’m not going to scold you."
The maid’s shoulders relaxed slightly, and she exhaled audibly, relief washing over her.
Without another word, Lily turned and walked back toward her room, her steps measured and calm.
The soft swish of her robes trailed behind her as she slid the door shut, leaving the maid standing in stunned silence.
Once inside, Lily sank back into her chair, her mind heavy with unanswered questions.
"Why is he avoiding me?" she whispered, her fingers brushing against her chin. "Is it because of what I can do? Or is it something else?"
Her thoughts turned to The Union. The group had been making waves lately, their strength growing with each passing day.
"If I’ve managed to clone so many of their members," she mused aloud, "then their leader must be extraordinary. To lead such powerful individuals requires someone remarkable."
Her lips curled into a faint smile as a spark of excitement lit her eyes. "I wonder what they’re like," she murmured. "Someone capable of guiding them, advancing them so far... They must be fascinating. I can’t wait to meet them."
Her musings were interrupted by a sudden burst of energy in the room.
A flash of light materialized before her, and in an instant, Sona appeared, her tiny wings fluttering rapidly to stabilize herself midair.
The fairy-like being, no larger than a hand, radiated an ethereal glow, her translucent wings shimmering in the sunlight.
Lily’s serious demeanor melted away the moment she saw Sona. A radiant smile spread across her face. "Sona, you’ve come at just the right time," she exclaimed, her voice filled with warmth and affection. "I was waiting for you."
Rising from her chair, Lily stepped toward Sona, her hands extending gently.
She cupped the tiny figure with care, lifting her closer to her face. Sona, with her small, delicate arms, wrapped them around Lily’s cheeks in an affectionate embrace.
The moment was tender, a stark contrast to Lily’s earlier frustration.
Holding Sona close, Lily’s worries seemed to fade, replaced by a sense of calm.
For now, she allowed herself to bask in the comfort and loyalty of her creation, letting the weight of her responsibilities slip away, even if only for a moment.
The Chapter ends with Lily seated once more, Sona resting in her hands, as she gazes out at the world beyond her room.
Her thoughts drift between her father, The Union, and the challenges yet to come, but for now, she finds solace in the companionship of her creation.
