Chapter 245: New Task
Chapter: New Task
The room was dimly lit, the air thick with tension and anticipation.
Adam teleported back into the abandoned building, the same place where he had interrogated Atlas and held Samuel captive earlier. The instant he appeared, all eyes turned toward him—especially those of Krish and Emily.
Krish’s face lit up with a mixture of hope and relief. He couldn’t hide his joy, and it was clear he viewed Adam as his only chance for redemption.
Adam walked calmly to the chair at the center of the room and sat down, his commanding presence filling the space.
As Adam settled in, Sona floated gracefully toward Krish and Emily. Without a word, she began undoing the restraints binding their hands and feet. The click of the locks echoed softly in the silent room.
Krish, now free, immediately dropped to the ground. He knelt, pressing his forehead to the floor in a gesture of submission. His voice quivered with a mixture of gratitude and desperation.
"Master, from today onward, I will serve only you. I promise I will not disappoint you. Thank you for giving me this chance."
Adam glanced at Emily, who stood stiffly, her gaze fixed elsewhere. Krish’s groveling seemed to agitate her, but she said nothing, the pressure of the situation evident in her stiff posture.
Finally, as though compelled, she placed a hand on her neck and spoke softly, "I will not disappoint you either, Master."
Adam nodded approvingly, satisfied with their responses, though his expression remained measured.
Before he could speak, Ninja stepped closer, his towering figure casting a long shadow. Emily instinctively tensed, her discomfort with his presence palpable.
Her hand moved toward her side, reaching for a sword that wasn’t there.
She looked down, realization dawning that she was unarmed. It was a reflex—her body’s natural defensive mechanism when faced with a powerful opponent.
Ninja noticed the movement but said nothing. In a swift motion, he produced a white neckband and secured it around Emily’s neck.
The band fit snugly, its center adorned with a faintly glowing blue crystal.
Emily recoiled, stepping back as her hand flew to her neck.
She touched the band, her fingers tracing its smooth, cloth-like texture and the cool crystal embedded within it. Her emerald eyes widened in shock as she struggled to comprehend what had just happened.
Krish, watching intently, noticed the neckband as Ninja approached him next. Before he could protest, Ninja clasped an identical neckband around his neck.
The moment it clicked into place, Krish winced. A suffocating sensation spread through him, as though an invisible force was pressing against his throat. He raised his trembling hands to the band, trying to tug it away, but it wouldn’t budge.
"What... what is this?" Krish stammered, his voice strained as he looked toward Adam, hoping for an explanation.
Adam’s gaze was cold but steady as he addressed both of them. "I’ve allowed you to join my organization, but that doesn’t mean I trust you. Until you prove yourselves worthy, these neckbands will remain where they are."
Krish and Emily exchanged uneasy glances, the gravity of Adam’s words sinking in.
"Master," Krish stuttered, his voice trembling, "what... what does this thing do?"
Before Adam could answer, Sona, who had been hovering silently beside him, spoke up. Her voice was calm, yet the weight of her words was undeniable.
"These are self-destructing neckbands," she explained, her glowing presence adding to the tension. "Their control lies solely with Lord Adam. The moment he feels you’ve betrayed us, he will activate the bands. Once triggered, they will destroy themselves—and you along with them."
Krish froze, his face draining of color. Emily’s reaction was subtler, but the fear in her eyes was unmistakable as her fingers lingered on the band around her neck.
The room fell silent, the atmosphere thick with unease. Adam observed the two of them closely, his expression unreadable.
With Krish and Emily subdued, the room settled into an uneasy calm. The glowing blue crystals of the neckbands flickered faintly, a constant reminder of the fragile balance of trust and control that Adam now held over them.
The dim room remained tense as Adam observed the reactions of Krish and Emily, both visibly uneasy with the neckbands now secured around their throats.
Their discomfort was palpable, but it didn’t deter Krish from speaking hesitantly.
"Master," Krish began, his voice cautious and laced with fear, "we could never even think of betraying you. This... this wasn’t necessary."
Before Krish could continue, Ninja stepped forward, his movements swift and menacing.
But just as Ninja prepared to act, Adam raised his hand, silently halting him mid-motion. "It’s fine," Adam said, his tone calm yet firm. His gaze shifted back to Krish. "You must understand—I do not trust you. Not yet."
Adam turned his attention to Emily, who stood silently, her emerald eyes darting between Adam and Ninja.
"I’ve given you both a second chance," Adam said, his voice steady. "I don’t want to use you like others have. All I ask is a guarantee—a guarantee that you will not harm others and that you will work for the interests of the Union."
Krish, who had been warily watching Ninja, took a deep breath. He straightened himself, his determination evident as he stepped slightly forward. "Master," he said earnestly, "give me a task. I’ll prove to you how loyal I am and how valuable I can be to your cause."
Adam regarded him silently for a moment before responding. "I do have a task for you," he said. "In fact, you’re a key part of a much larger plan—one that cannot afford failure."
Krish’s expression shifted as realization dawned. Hesitantly, he spoke, "Master... you’re referring to the President and the Prime Minister, aren’t you?"
Adam’s lips curved into a faint smile. "You’re perceptive," he replied. "You should know, though, that I haven’t forgiven your past mistakes. However, if your performance is satisfactory, I might consider overlooking everything you’ve done so far."
Hearing this, Krish’s chest swelled with a mix of pride and relief. He placed his hand over his heart and bowed slightly. "Master Adam, just give me the command," he said, his voice brimming with conviction. "Should I bring all the Power Holders under your control? The President, who is already my slave, has been instructed to ensure a nationwide investigation by tomorrow morning. If you order me, I’ll make every Power Holder bow before you."
Adam remained silent for a moment, weighing Krish’s words. Finally, he spoke, his tone calm but commanding. "That won’t be necessary," he said. "For now, I only need something specific from the President. Can you establish a direct connection to him, or at least relay my instructions immediately?"
Krish’s face lit up with enthusiasm. "Master, just tell me what you need. The President is at my complete command. Whatever you say, I will make sure he does it."
Satisfied, Adam gave his instructions. "Tell the President," he began, his tone measured, "that there will be no nationwide investigation tomorrow. Instead, the state of emergency currently in place must be lifted. Announce that the vampire threat has been neutralized entirely."
Krish nodded vigorously, absorbing every word as Adam continued. "Inform the government to publicly align itself with the Union. It’s time they formally recognized us as allies."
"Yes, Master," Krish said, his voice unwavering.
Adam’s gaze lingered on Krish for a moment before he allowed a faint smile to break his serious demeanor. The room remained tense, but the weight of Adam’s words signaled that a new Chapter in their alliance—and in their mission—was beginning.
Adam’s sharp gaze was fixed on Krish as the latter processed his instructions. Krish, clearly startled by the weight of the task, quickly composed himself and said, "Lord Adam, if that’s your wish, I’ll fulfill it immediately."
He instinctively reached into his pocket, but it was empty. A flicker of uncertainty crossed his face as he turned back toward Adam. "Master," Krish said hesitantly, "may I have a contact device? Perhaps a phone or something similar?"
Ninja’s expression darkened, his frustration apparent. Krish’s repeated use of "Lord Adam" grated on him, the familiarity far from welcome.
Ninja despised how Krish spoke of Adam, but he restrained himself, knowing Adam had assigned Krish a task. His loyalty to Adam was absolute, so he maintained his silence, though his irritation simmered just below the surface.
Adam, unperturbed, turned slightly to look at Sona, who was hovering nearby. "Sona," Adam said in his usual calm tone, "bring him a phone."
Sona disappeared instantly, her teleportation swift and seamless. Within seconds, she reappeared, holding a sleek black phone. But instead of handing it directly to Krish, she walked over and placed it in Adam’s hand.
Adam sighed softly, noting the tension his companions still harbored toward Krish and Emily. They haven’t accepted them yet, he thought, and truthfully, neither have I. He reflected momentarily on his strategy: The only reason I haven’t imprisoned or eliminated them is that their powers can be used for the greater good.
With this thought, Adam handed the phone to Krish. The latter took it eagerly, dialing a number with quick fingers. As the phone rang, a voice on the other end answered, its tone deferential and alert.
"Master, you’ve called late. Is everything alright?"
Adam’s sharp intuition immediately identified the speaker: the President.
Krish’s tone became firm, authoritative. "Listen carefully," he began. "You are to cancel tomorrow’s national investigation."
The President, initially startled, hesitated for a moment before replying. "But Master, wasn’t this your idea?"
Krish’s irritation flared. "My idea has changed," he snapped. "Are you going to disobey me?" His voice edged with frustration.
There was a tense pause before the President responded, his tone laced with submission. "Master, if that’s what you want, I’ll arrange it. I assure you, there will be no national investigation tomorrow."
Hearing this, Krish turned to Adam with a triumphant smile. But Adam, with a subtle motion of his finger, signaled for him to continue.
Realizing his mistake, Krish hurriedly added, "One more thing—you must initiate contact with the government to form an alliance with the Union."
This new command visibly surprised the President. There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before the President replied, his tone cautious yet resolute. "Master, I will follow all your orders. I’ll ensure the government reaches out to the Union within the next few days to establish an alliance."
Satisfied, Krish ended the call and looked back at Adam, visibly relieved.
Adam nodded slightly, his expression unreadable. The room remained heavy with tension, the weight of Adam’s decisions pressing on everyone present.
