Chapter 241: Breaking Barriers
Chapter: Breaking Barriers
Adam leaned back in his chair, his face a mask of frustration. Samuel’s cold, clipped response hung in the air, each word like a lock sealing off possibilities.
"No," Samuel repeated, his voice devoid of empathy. "I can’t release her."
Adam gets very upset and does not know what to do about Samuel because all the answers he has given so far are very infuriating, but he is trying to control himself.
Adam exhaled sharply, shaking his head. His thoughts raced, desperate to find a solution. There must be a way to free Christina. I can’t waste time here arguing with him. Who knows what condition she’s in?
He doesn’t see any way out for now, but he must find one soon, as he can’t allow his own creation to be shielded by Samul for much longer.
His gaze shifted, landing on Emily. She sat motionless, her head bowed and her face hidden behind a curtain of white hair.
Her hands clutched the armrests of her chair tightly, her knuckles white.
Every now and then, a faint shiver ran through her body as the residual effects of the interrogation and Samuel’s manipulations clung to her like a dark cloud.
Emily is extremely scared, especially thinking about how Adam will torture her. She is somehow managing to hold herself together, but she doesn’t know for how long she will be able to do so.
Adam studied her closely. There was fear in her every movement, but there was also something deeper—perhaps a sense of resignation. He wondered about her story, the path that had led her to this point.
Adam doesn’t know much about Emily, he has had very little interaction with her, he hasn’t seen much action of Emily.
"Miss White heir," Adam’s voice broke through the silence, soft but commanding.
Adam doesn’t know Emily’s name and doesn’t know how to call the girl, so he calls her just by looking at her hair.
Her head jerked slightly, though she didn’t lift her gaze. Adam’s steady tone held no malice, only curiosity. "What’s your story?"
Emily flinched at the question, her body stiffening. She shook her head without looking up. "I don’t have anything to say," she murmured, her voice barely audible.
But her trembling hands betrayed her fear. Her shoulders hunched further, and her hair concealed her face like a shield.
After hearing Emily’s reply, Samuel looks at her and doesn’t say anything and starts looking at Adam again, while Adam is very surprised to see this type of action from Emily.
Zero stepped forward, his movements deliberate and intimidating.
His glowing eyes fixed on Emily, and his metallic hand hovered above her shoulder, sparking faintly with restrained energy.
"Answer the question," Zero said flatly, his mechanical voice cold as steel.
Emily’s breathing quickened, her fingers digging into the wooden armrests. Her fear was palpable, and for a moment, it seemed she would break.
Many scenarios are running through Emily’s mind where she will be tortured by giving her electric currents, she gets more scared thinking all this but before she can say anything,
Adam watched the scene unfold, his sharp eyes picking up every detail—the way Emily’s grip tightened, the shallow rise and fall of her chest. Something about her reaction didn’t fit the image of a brutal combatant.
"Zero," Adam said firmly, his voice cutting through the tension. "Stand down."
Zero paused, his hand hovering in the air for a moment before he stepped back.
His expressionless face betrayed nothing, but he nodded slightly and retreated to his previous position.
Emily’s hands relaxed slightly, though her shoulders still trembled. Adam leaned forward, his tone gentler now.
Adam wants answers, Emily is in no condition to answer as she is very scared so Adam has an idea,He will first make Emily comfortable and make her realize that she will not be tortured here, along with this Adam has a future plan for Emily.
"What’s your name?" Adam asked, his question simple and unthreatening.
Emily stiffened, her head tilting slightly as if she hadn’t expected such a question. For a moment, she said nothing. Then, as though compelled by an unseen force, she whispered, "Emily."
Adam blinked in mild surprise. He had anticipated resistance, perhaps even silence, but not an answer. Something about her willingness intrigued him.
"Emily," he repeated, testing the name on his tongue. His tone was measured, deliberate. "How skilled are you with a sword?"
Emily’s head tilted further upward, though her eyes still didn’t meet his. Her hands slowly loosened their grip on the armrests, and her breathing steadied.
Adam had asked the question not out of curiosity but as a strategy. He wanted to ease her tension, to give her something familiar to focus on. And it was working.
Emily hesitated before speaking, her voice barely above a whisper. "I’ve trained... for years."
Her answer was cautious but honest, and Adam could see the faintest glimmer of confidence in her posture. She was starting to lower her guard, if only slightly.
He nodded, leaning back in his chair. "It shows. You have the bearing of someone who knows how to fight."
Emily’s hands, which had been gripping the armrests tightly moments ago, now rested loosely on the wooden edges. Adam noticed the subtle change and felt a small sense of accomplishment.
He didn’t press further. For now, it was enough that Emily had begun to speak. She wasn’t the same frightened figure she had been moments ago, and Adam silently vowed to learn more about her in time.
As the silence settled again, Adam allowed himself a moment to think. He glanced briefly at Samuel, who sat with a smug, knowing expression, and then back at Emily.
She’s not what she seems, Adam thought. There’s more to her story, and I need to understand it if I’m going to uncover the truth about what Samuel has done.
But for now, Adam knew he needed patience. The answers would come in time, and when they did, he would be ready.
