Chapter 221: The Hunt for Power Holders
Chapter: The Hunt for Power Holders
Adam sat cross-legged on the floor, his friends Leo and Susan still in front of him, their faces a mix of awe and concern. Adam’s revelation about encountering the very entity the Oracle had predicted left them visibly shaken.
"So you’ve already met him?" Leo’s voice broke the silence, laced with disbelief. "The one the Oracle warned about?"
Adam gave a slow, deliberate nod, confirming their worst fears. Seeing his affirmation, both of them exchanged a look of quiet astonishment. They were beginning to grasp the gravity of what Adam was dealing with, and a wave of respect washed over them.
Leo lowered his gaze, his voice heavy with guilt and admiration. "Adam, my friend... I had no idea you were fighting such battles, and all on your own."
Leo had no idea how much responsibility Adam was taking on and that he was fighting alone without anyone’s help.
Adam gave a small, reassuring smile, his tone light yet firm. "Oh no, don’t worry. I’m not alone. I have many allies by my side."
Hearing this, both Leo and Susan remembered Adam’s unique ability to create new creatures to aid him. The thought brought them a sense of calm, though the enormity of his struggle still loomed large in their minds.
Breaking the moment, Adam straightened his posture and spoke with renewed urgency. "Alright, Leo and Susan, I think it’s time for you to leave now. I have other matters to attend to."
Leo and Susan exchanged a glance, nodded in agreement, and stood up. "Take care of yourself, Adam," Leo said, offering a parting wave.
"Be careful," Susan added softly before they both headed downstairs to bid farewell to Adam’s mother.
Once the sound of their footsteps faded, Adam exhaled and turned back toward his desk. Sitting down, he stared at the monitor in front of him.
The holographic avatar of Pratham, his AI creation, materialized on the screen.
Pratham’s sleek form was striking—blue skin, white hair, and piercing neon-blue eyes that seemed to glow against the dark background of the monitor.
"Lord Adam," Pratham began, his voice calm but urgent. "We’ve detected another Power Holder nearby."
Pratham gets the information about a power holder some distance away, this information is known due to the small robot created by Zero which he is controlling.
Adam’s focus sharpened immediately. "Where?"
Pratham gestured, and a new window popped up on the monitor, displaying a detailed map with a glowing red dot marking the location. "Here," Pratham said, pointing to the coordinates.
Studying the map, Adam nodded. "Good work." Without wasting another second, he activated his teleportation ability, disappearing from his room in a flash of energy.
The scene shifted to a quiet residential area. The streetlights illuminated the surroundings dimly, their glow casting long shadows across the houses.
Adam reappeared near a small house with its lights still on. Nearby, his trusted ally Ninja stood silently, waiting for him.
As soon as Ninja saw Adam, he knelt, bowing his head respectfully. "Lord Adam, I’ve been waiting for your arrival."
Adam approached him, his brow furrowing slightly. "You haven’t gone inside yet?"
Ninja shook his head, his voice low and steady. "No, Lord Adam. I didn’t want to risk alarming the Power Holder inside. It might scare them off."
Adam considered this for a moment, then nodded. "Fair enough." He reached into his pocket, pulling out his mask.
He secured it over his face, leaving only his violet eyes visible, the glow of his gaze stark against the dark fabric of the mask.
His jet-black hair shifted slightly in the cool night breeze as he turned toward the house.
Adam leaped effortlessly over the boundary wall, landing softly in the garden. The house before him was modest yet neat, a two-story structure with light filtering through the curtains of a large window.
He approached cautiously, peeking through the window. Behind the curtains, he could see a dining room bathed in warm light.
"This must be it," Adam thought to himself, his gaze scanning the scene.
He gestured subtly toward Ninja, signaling for him to stay on guard. Then, with precise movements, Adam opened the window.
The latch gave way without resistance, and he slipped inside, pulling the curtains aside to enter.
As Adam stepped into the room, his eyes quickly adjusted to the light. The dining table was set, and the room was empty. But something about the atmosphere felt off. A faint hum seemed to linger in the air, barely audible yet unnerving.
He took a cautious step forward, his senses heightened. His gaze darted around, scanning every corner of the room. Suddenly, his eyes widened.
What he saw froze him in place.
As Adam stepped into the house, his gaze immediately fell on the dining table in the center of the room. His sharp violet eyes widened in shock as he froze in place.
The warm light from the overhead lamp illuminated a horrific scene—an entire family seated around the dining table, lifeless in their chairs.
Each member’s body was slumped back, their heads tilted upward, and their milky white eyes stared blankly into the void.
Their faces bore no expressions of pain, but their stillness spoke volumes. Plates of food lay untouched on the table, and a chilling silence filled the air.
Behind Adam, Ninja silently entered through the window, his typically composed demeanor cracking as he took in the sight. His black-clad form stiffened, and he whispered, "Lord Adam, this is... unsettling."
Adam didn’t reply immediately, his mind racing. His heart felt heavy seeing the lifeless family, particularly because there were no visible signs of injury. He couldn’t fathom what kind of force had caused such an atrocity.
Just as Adam took a step closer to the table, Pratham’s calm voice echoed telepathically in his mind.
"Lord Adam, the youngest boy in this house was detected as a Power Holder."
Adam’s gaze snapped to the small child at the far end of the table. The boy couldn’t have been more than eight years old. His head rested on the tabletop, his small arms dangling limply by his sides.
Like the others, his eyes were eerily white. Adam’s heart clenched as he took in the boy’s fragile form.
A deep sadness filled Adam as he whispered, "No wounds... no struggle... yet they’re all gone."
Adam moved forward, but Ninja quickly stepped in front of him, his body tense. "Lord Adam, please wait. We don’t know what caused this. There could still be a threat here."
Adam glanced at Ninja, his jaw tightening. "We’ve already lost too much time, Ninja." His voice was steady but tinged with frustration. Gently pushing Ninja’s arm aside, he continued toward the table.
As he approached, he studied the family closely. The father sat at the head of the table, his body larger and more imposing than the others, though now lifeless.
His features suggested he was in his early forties. Beside him, the mother slumped forward, her head resting awkwardly on the table.
She appeared to be in her mid-thirties. The eldest son, likely in his late teens, leaned back in his chair, his lifeless arms draped over the sides.
And then there was the youngest—the boy who was supposed to be the Power Holder. His small frame looked so vulnerable among the others.
Adam’s fists clenched. "A family of four Power Holders... wiped out," he muttered.
Adam turned to Ninja, his voice sharp. "Did you sense anything unusual while you were waiting outside?"
Ninja shook his head solemnly. "No, Lord Adam. I’ve been monitoring this area for a while, and I detected no unusual activity. Nothing seemed out of place."
Adam’s brows furrowed. His mission had been to protect Power Holders from the government, but this scene proved that other forces were also targeting them—and far more brutally.
Reaching out telepathically, Adam called to Pratham. "Can you check who entered or exited this house recently? Scan all electronic devices in the vicinity."
"Understood, Lord Adam," came Pratham’s prompt reply.
A tense silence hung in the room as Adam waited. Outside, the faint hum of the city night barely reached the house, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
After a few moments, Pratham’s voice returned. "Lord Adam, I found no activated electronic signals in this house for the past three hours."
Adam’s eyes narrowed. "What about three hours ago? Who was the last to enter or leave?"
Pratham’s response was measured. "Three hours ago, the mother of this family entered the house. She was carrying groceries. After that, there has been no other activity."
Adam’s breath hitched. "No one else? No signs of forced entry or any suspicious movement?"
"None, Lord Adam," Pratham confirmed.
Adam’s gaze returned to the lifeless family. The mystery deepened, and a sinking realization gripped him. Whatever had killed this family was neither ordinary nor detectable.
The Chapter ended with Adam standing motionless, his thoughts racing as the full weight of the situation bore down on him.
