Chapter 215: The Hidden Crystal
Chapter: The Hidden Crystal
Adam stood motionless, absorbing the shocking revelation from Zero.
A crystal inside his chest, powering his abilities—it was something he had never considered. His mind reeled at the implications. "A crystal?" Adam asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"You’re telling me there’s a crystal inside every power holder, including me, and it’s the source of our powers?"
Adam finds it quite absurd that all power holders have a crystal inside their chest that gives them power. How weird is that.
Zero’s glowing patterns pulsed as it responded calmly. "Yes, Lord Adam. The detection device works by emitting specific energy wavelengths that interact with the crystal. If a crystal is present, the energy reflects back, identifying the target as a power holder. If there’s no crystal, the wavelength passes through without any reflection."
Adam processed the explanation, his thoughts racing. He folded his arms, deep in thought, then said, "So, the crystal isn’t just a power source—it’s a marker. That’s how this device identifies power holders. But why don’t I know about it? Why haven’t I ever sensed it?"
Zero’s head tilted slightly, its glowing blue lines shifting faintly. "That, Lord Adam, is beyond my knowledge. I can only tell you what I’ve learned from integrating with the detection device. This crystal could be a natural part of power holders, or it could be something more."
Adam forced himself to push the thought aside for now. There were more pressing matters. "We’ll revisit this later," he said firmly. "For now, tell me—can you create a countermeasure for this device?"
For Adam, the most concerning matter right now is the investigation that is going to happen across the country regarding these devices, which will happen tomorrow morning, that is more important than focusing on this crystal mechanic.
Zero’s glowing hand reached out, and a swarm of nanotech particles materialized from its fingertips, coalescing into a black, rubber-like hand band.
Zero held it out to Adam. "Here, Lord Adam. This hand band is the countermeasure. It absorbs the detection device’s energy wavelengths, preventing them from reflecting back. With this, the device will be unable to identify power holders."
"Is this the device that will save us from this nationwide investigation? It looks quite simple like a rubber wristband."Adam is thinking about all these things while looking at the device
Adam took the hand band, examining it closely. The material felt strange—soft, yet sturdy—and it pulsed faintly with energy. "This small band can counter the device?" he asked, impressed but skeptical.
"Yes, Lord Adam," Zero confirmed. "The device relies on its wavelengths interacting with the crystal. This hand band absorbs those wavelengths, rendering the device ineffective."
Adam nodded, slipping the band onto his wrist. "And it’s foolproof?"
Zero’s glowing eyes brightened slightly. "For now, yes. However, if the detection device is upgraded or modified, this countermeasure might become ineffective. I can upgrade the hand bands as needed, but I’ll require more resources to keep pace with potential advancements."
Adam doesn’t care much because he knows that the government is working on a very urgent matter right now and it won’t be able to upgrade these devices at least for a few months.
Adam clenched his fist, feeling the faint hum of the hand band’s energy around his wrist. "That’s incredible," he muttered, a mix of relief and amazement washing over him. He turned back to Zero. "How many of these can you make?"
Zero raised its robotic hand, its dark blue surface gleaming under the room’s light. Slowly, it extended five fingers. "With the resources I currently have, I can create five more hand bands," it said.
Adam nodded, his mind already strategizing. "Then make them. We’ll need as many as we can get."
Zero extended its hand once more, releasing a stream of nanotech particles. Within seconds, five identical hand bands formed, each one pulsing faintly with energy. Zero carefully placed them on the table before Adam.
Adam picked up one of the bands, turning it over in his hand. He glanced at his allies—Sona, Tayo, and Ninja—and then back at Zero. "If I have a crystal, then it’s likely they do too. Can you check them with your integrated detection device?"
Zero’s glowing patterns dimmed momentarily before it nodded. "As you wish, Lord Adam." Its eyes brightened, and the detection device integrated into its chest activated. A soft hum filled the room as Zero scanned the others.
Zero’s gaze lingered on Ninja, then moved to Sona and Tayo. After a few moments, it deactivated the detection device and turned back to Adam. "Lord Adam," it said, its voice laced with surprise, "I cannot detect any crystals within them. By all appearances, they are indistinguishable from ordinary beings."
Adam frowned, confused. "You’re saying they don’t have crystals? But they’re power holders—like me."
Zero nodded. "That is correct. They possess abilities, but their energy signatures lack the distinct wavelength associated with the crystal. Their power seems to originate from a different source."
Adam stepped back, his mind racing once again. "That doesn’t make sense," he murmured. "If they don’t have crystals, then where do their powers come from? And why am I different?"
The revelation left Adam unsettled. He glanced at his allies, who exchanged worried glances of their own. Sona floated closer, her delicate wings fluttering nervously. "Lord Adam," she said softly, "does this mean we’re not the same as you?"
Adam shook his head, his voice firm. "No, Sona. You’re my allies—my family. This doesn’t change anything." He turned back to Zero. "We’ll figure this out later. For now, we have what we need to counter the detection devices. That’s our priority."
Zero bowed its head slightly. "As you command, Lord Adam."
The room fell quiet, the weight of the discoveries pressing down on everyone. Adam stared at the hand bands on the table, his thoughts a storm of questions and uncertainties.
The Chapter ended with Adam’s resolve hardening, even as new mysteries deepened the challenges ahead.
