Chapter 187: The Hunter in Motion

Chapter: The Hunter in Motion

The Chapter began with the hum of machinery and the sterile stillness of Central Vista, a sprawling underground facility hidden deep within the mountains.

The environment was starkly utilitarian, its white tiled floors gleaming under fluorescent lights.

This place wasn’t just a military base; it was a hub of planning, experimentation, and execution.

Among the personnel moving purposefully through the labyrinthine corridors, one figure stood out—Ranger Logan.

Logan was reviewing orders that had just come through a secure channel. His calm demeanor belied the sharp edge of excitement that flickered in his eyes.

On the computer screen in front of him, detailed dossiers of Tayo and Sona were displayed, complete with photos, attack patterns, defensive capabilities, and personal histories.

"Interesting," Logan muttered, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "This will be... entertaining."

He shut off the monitor and leaned back in his chair, his sharp gaze drifting to the nearby room.

Encased in glass walls, it housed a team of scientists in white coats, busily moving between workstations.

They barely glanced in Logan’s direction, though their nervous energy filled the air. Logan dismissed them from his mind. His focus was on the mission.

Nearby, a sleek, black leather sofa held an object of singular importance—Logan’s sword.

Crafted with precision and honed to deadly sharpness, the blade was a symbol of his authority and skill.

Rising from his seat, Logan approached the sofa, picked up the weapon, and secured it to his side. As he adjusted the straps around his waist, his expression hardened.

He walked with measured steps toward the facility’s main gate, his boots clicking against the floor with a cadence that echoed through the corridor. Without turning back, he muttered, "It’s been far too long since I’ve had a proper warm-up."

As he reached the gate, a young soldier approached him, saluting crisply. "Ranger Logan, we’ve prepared a vehicle for your departure. We’ll leave on your signal."

Logan raised an eyebrow, mildly amused. "Who told you I’d take you along?"

The soldier hesitated, confusion flashing across his face. "I... assumed you’d need backup, sir. Are you saying you’ll go alone?"

Logan’s smirk widened slightly. "Wrong again."

The soldier’s face paled. "Then... are you planning to reach on foot?"

Logan chuckled softly, raising his hand in mock applause. "Now you’re catching on." He stepped closer to the soldier, his smirk turning into a grin. "You’re not needed for this. Stay here and keep the facility secure."

The soldier stiffened, saluting again. "Understood, sir. If anything happens, I’ll inform you immediately via intercom."

Satisfied, Logan turned and began walking toward the exit. He paused momentarily, glancing over his shoulder. "Make sure nothing falls apart while I’m gone."

"Yes, sir!" the soldier replied, his voice sharp and resolute.

Logan stepped out of the Central Vista facility, into the cool shadows of the mountain. This area was a stark contrast to the sterile interior he had just left.

Large crates were stacked in haphazard rows, their contents concealed but undoubtedly significant. Soldiers patrolled the area, their vigilance evident as they saluted Logan in unison.

"We’ve prepared the vehicle, sir," one of the soldiers said.

Logan raised a hand to silence him. "I won’t need it."

Before anyone could respond, Logan bent his knees slightly, his posture shifting. In a blink, he propelled himself forward with such speed that the soldiers barely had time to register his movement.

A gust of wind followed in his wake, stirring loose gravel and sending shivers through those left behind.

Dimension away, Mikasa monitored the mountain range through a satellite feed. Her sharp eyes scanned the terrain, tracking Logan’s rapid movement.

The speed at which he traversed the rough landscape was astounding, his figure barely visible as he crossed ridges and valleys.

Her voice echoed in Adam’s mind through their telepathic link. "Lord Adam, we have a situation. I’ve identified an individual leaving the government facility at high speed. It’s clear he’s a power holder."

Adam, sitting in a dimly lit room across from Atlas, straightened at her words. His masked face tilted slightly as he processed the information. "Already?" he murmured to himself. Reaching out mentally, he responded. "What do you know about this individual?"

Mikasa’s tone was calm but urgent. "He appears to be in his mid-thirties. His speed is abnormal, far beyond human capability. I’m gathering more information, but I need a little time."

Adam’s voice sharpened. "How can you be sure he’s a power holder?"

"His speed," Mikasa replied without hesitation. "He left the facility just seconds ago and has already crossed a significant portion of the mountain range. No human could achieve that."

Adam’s mind raced as he stood abruptly, his dark cloak rustling against the chair.

Across from him, Atlas, still bound, watched in surprise. "What now?" Atlas muttered under his breath, his gaze flickering between Adam’s rigid stance and the doorway.

Adam ignored him, striding into the next room. The faint light from the setting sun filtered through broken windows, casting long shadows.

"Mikasa," Adam said, his voice steady despite the tension in his posture. "Can you predict where he’s headed?"

There was a brief pause before Mikasa responded. "Not yet, Lord Adam. But give me a moment. I’ll figure it out."

Adam clenched his fists, his mind piecing together the implications of Mikasa’s report.

Whoever this individual was, his presence was no coincidence. He had to be heading toward Tayo and Sona. Time was slipping away.

Mikasa, focused on her surveillance, adjusted the satellite’s parameters, tracking Logan’s trajectory.

As the image on her screen sharpened, her lips pressed into a thin line. "I’ll have an answer soon," she whispered to herself.

In the fading light of the evening, Logan sprinted through the mountainous terrain, his figure a blur against the rugged backdrop. The chase was on, and the stakes had never been higher.

The Chapter ended on this note, a quiet yet intense buildup to the inevitable confrontation that loomed just beyond the horizon.
