Chapter 131: Path to Safety
Yuki turned to adam, her expression showing a flicker of surprise. "What urgency are you talking about?" she asked cautiously.
adam’s gaze remained fixed on the ground, his voice sharp and unwavering. "I believe they’ve found your base. It won’t be long before they launch an attack."
The weight of his words sent a jolt through the group. Yuki’s eyes widened in disbelief, while
Sona, still hovering mid-air with her delicate wings fluttering, looked visibly shaken. Ani, standing nearby, fidgeted nervously before finally speaking, his voice trembling. "What do we do now?"
Adam stepped forward, his calm demeanor unshaken by the rising tension. "Don’t worry," he said with a measured tone. "I’ve already found another location."
With that, Adam extended his hand. The ground beneath them began to shift, ripples spreading like waves.
A dark object slowly emerged, rising from the earth until it was within Adam’s reach.
It appeared to be a stick, but as Adam gripped it firmly, the object transformed, unraveling itself into a rolled piece of parchment.
The group watched in silent awe as Adam unfurled the parchment, revealing a detailed map etched with intricate markings.
Adam studied it briefly before placing a finger on a specific point. "This," he said, his voice cutting through the tension, "is where we are." His finger moved across the map to another location. "And this is where we need to go."
The others crowded around, their gazes flicking between the map and Adam with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension.
Yuki, unable to contain her curiosity any longer, blurted out, "What are you? How do you manage to do these things?"
Adam glanced at her, his expression unreadable. With a snap of his fingers, he dismissed her question. "Focus. We don’t have much time," he said curtly.
Chastised but understanding the gravity of the situation, Yuki nodded and turned her attention back to the map. Adam took a deep breath, his brow furrowing. "There’s a problem," he announced.
The group immediately turned to him, their concern evident. Ani spoke up first. "What problem?"
Adam’s gaze darkened. "This time, we’ll need to split up."
"Split up? Why?" Ani’s voice carried a note of alarm.
Adam looked at him, his tone steady but firm. "I haven’t just found one safe place. I’ve located another location that seems... unusual. The energy readings there are strong—too strong to ignore. I need to investigate it myself. It’s far from here, and I must go alone."
Sona and Ani exchanged uneasy glances. "And what about us?" Sona asked, her voice tinged with worry.
Adam turned to her, his expression softening slightly. "Sona, your task is to investigate the entire city. Pay special attention to the cultural centers. I have a feeling they hold more than they appear to."
Sona nodded, her wings fluttering with determination.
Adam then turned to Ani and gestured toward the map. "Ani, you’ll accompany Yuki. Your job is to guide the children to this location," he said, pointing to a marked position on the map. "I’m entrusting you with a huge responsibility, but I believe in you."
Ani’s eyes widened in surprise, but his lips curved into a small smile. "Thank you for trusting me, Lord Adam. I won’t let you down," he said confidently.
---
Adam’s gaze shifted to Yuki. "How many children are in this base right now?"
Yuki seemed momentarily caught off guard by the question. After a brief pause, she answered, "There are more than a thousand."
Adam’s expression hardened. "A thousand..." he murmured, his mind racing as he considered the logistics of moving such a large group.
After a moment of silence, Adam spoke again. "Alright. I’ll create a path for you—a safe route to get the children to the new location without any unnecessary trouble."
He stepped away from the group, his focus sharp. But before he could begin, Sona’s voice called out from behind him, her wings keeping her aloft. "Lord Adam! If you use too much of your power, won’t they find us?"
Adam turned to her, his face calm but resolute. "Don’t worry. This matter is far too important to hold back. You don’t understand—this dimensional plane is extremely unstable. The absence of the Primordial Beings for so long has thrown everything into chaos."
His words left the group in stunned silence. As the realization of the fragile balance they were navigating sank in, Adam turned back to his task, determined to forge a path that would ensure their survival.
And with that, the Chapter drew to a close, leaving the group with the weight of their responsibilities and the uncertainty of the road ahead.
Adam stood amidst the tense air, watching as everyone silently exchanged nods and glances of agreement.
The unspoken understanding between them was clear—they had to act quickly. Without saying another word, Adam turned and walked toward the nearest wall, his steps deliberate and heavy with purpose.
Reaching the wall, he stopped and stretched both hands out toward the open air. His sharp gaze softened as he closed his eyes, focusing deeply. A quiet command slipped from his lips, calm yet imbued with immense power: "Open."
Suddenly, the ground trembled violently. A deep rumbling filled the air, echoing throughout the entire city.
Walls shook, and debris rattled as a massive earthquake rippled through the area. Before Adam, the earth split open, a jagged chasm carving itself deep into the ground.
The process was slow but precise, Adam’s hands steady as he controlled the formation of the tunnel.
After several tense minutes, the rumbling subsided. Before him lay a cavernous passageway, seven meters deep, leading from the underground base to a hidden final exit beyond the city’s borders. Adam stepped back, his chest rising and falling with effort as he exhaled a long breath.
Turning back to the group, he spoke firmly, his voice cutting through the lingering hum of energy in the air. "You have one hour. After that, this cave will begin to collapse. If soldiers arrive, they won’t be able to trace where you’ve gone. Move quickly."
Yuki, the youngest among them, stared wide-eyed at Adam, her surprise evident. She turned to Ani and asked, "Sis, will you help me get everything ready?"
Ani nodded with a determined expression and immediately moved toward the children, who were scattered around the base, busy with their own tasks. Her calm but commanding presence began organizing them swiftly.
Adam’s gaze shifted to Sona, who hovered nearby, her delicate wings fluttering in the dim light. "You should get started on your part as well," Adam said, his tone firm but kind.
Sona nodded, determination replacing the worry on her face. Before she could move, Adam raised one hand, his palm facing the ceiling.
With a sharp upward motion, he unleashed a focused burst of power. A small, circular opening formed in the ceiling, revealing a direct path to the city streets above.
"This will lead you outside," Adam said, gesturing toward the opening. "Go now. It won’t stay open for long."
Sona flitted upward, her wings carrying her gracefully toward the exit. She glanced back briefly, meeting Adam’s eyes with a grateful nod before disappearing through the passage.
Meanwhile, Yuki climbed onto a wooden platform at the center of the room. Her small frame contrasted with the authority in her voice as she called out, "Everyone, listen to me! This is an emergency. We have to leave—now!"
Her words silenced the murmurs of confusion among the children. They turned toward her, some whispering anxiously to one another. Yuki’s voice grew sharper, her frustration evident. "Get in line, quickly! We don’t have much time!"
The children, intimidated by her sudden outburst, began forming a line. At the front stood Ani, who positioned herself by the entrance of the newly-formed cave.
Her calm demeanor reassured the younger ones as she prepared to lead them to safety.
Before stepping into the dimly-lit passage, Ani turned to Adam. A soft smile graced her face, and she said, "Take care of yourself."
Adam returned her smile, his voice gentle but resolute. "You too. Make sure they all get out safely."
Ani nodded and led the children into the tunnel, her figure fading into the shadows as the dim light consumed her.
One by one, the children followed Ani, their footsteps echoing softly as they entered the tunnel. Adam watched in silence, ensuring everyone made it through. Eventually, only Yuki remained, walking at the back of the line. She paused and turned to face Adam.
"Big brother, where are you going?" she asked, her voice tinged with both curiosity and concern.
Adam crouched slightly to meet her gaze, a faint smile crossing his lips. "I’m going far away. It might take some time, but I promise I’ll be back. Until then, take care of yourself and look after the others."
Yuki smiled, a spark of hope lighting up her young face. "I will. Come back soon, okay?"
Adam nodded, watching as she waved goodbye and disappeared into the tunnel. As the last of the children vanished, Adam stepped forward and raised his hand. With a swift motion, the entrance sealed shut, the ground seamlessly closing as if the cave had never existed.
Standing in the now-empty base, Adam took a deep breath, his gaze scanning the desolate surroundings. The silence was overwhelming, a stark contrast to the chaos of moments before. For the first time in what felt like hours, he allowed himself a moment of stillness.
His resolve strengthened as he exhaled slowly. This was just the beginning.
And with that, the Chapter concluded, leaving Adam alone in the vast emptiness, preparing for the trials yet to come.
