Chapter 126: Adam’s domain

Chapter 126: Adam’s domain

The tension in the air was palpable as Adam stood amidst the unsettling scene. Soldiers, fully armed and disciplined, had their weapons pointed at a fourteen-year-old girl.

The sight was not only peculiar but also deeply unnerving to him.

The girl’s demeanor was calm, her small frame emanating an aura of quiet defiance, dressed in a unique outfit that shimmered faintly with a blue light.

Adam’s mind raced as he processed the scenario.

"Pratham never envisioned a society where this could happen," Adam thought, his brow furrowed. "And I never asked him to create such a world. So what exactly is going on here?"

The questions churned in his head, gnawing at his instincts. Something about this situation didn’t sit right.

His unease deepened as he scanned the surroundings, searching for any clue that might explain this bizarre standoff.

Suddenly, the faint sound of hurried footsteps echoed behind him. Ani and Sona appeared, their faces pale and their eyes wide with disbelief.

They had been cautiously peering from the corner of an alley, watching the confrontation unfold without fully understanding what was happening.

"What’s going on here?" Ani asked, his voice edged with alarm as his gaze shifted between the soldiers and the girl.

Adam, his jaw tight, shook his head slowly. "I don’t know," he replied, his voice low and measured, though his thoughts were anything but calm.

Sona’s sharp blue eyes locked onto the scene before them. She took a deep breath, her unease evident.

"Something feels off about this place," she murmured, extending her hand slightly as if preparing to act.

Before she could take another step, Adam’s firm hand grasped her. "Stop, Sona. There’s no need for you to do anything," he said, his tone brooking no argument.

Sona glanced at him, her expression a mix of concern and determination. But she relented, nodding reluctantly. Adam released her and turned his attention back to the standoff.

Without hesitation, he began walking toward the confrontation, his movements purposeful yet cautious.

Ani and Sona exchanged a quick glance, their curiosity and worry compelling them to stay close in this place.

As Adam moved closer, his sharp eyes caught sight of something peculiar.

On the road nearby, other individuals were seated in silence, dressed in outfits identical to the young girl’s.

Their suits radiated the same blue light, casting an otherworldly glow around them.

Despite their proximity to the conflict, they appeared utterly indifferent, ignoring the tense situation as if it didn’t exist.

The contrast was jarring. These people, bathed in an unnatural luminescence, sat like statues while the soldiers continued to aim their weapons at the girl. Adam couldn’t comprehend their apathy.

Scanning the wider area, Adam noticed something else: the city felt disturbingly empty.

There was an eerie silence, a complete absence of the usual bustling life one would expect in such an environment.

The roads stretched endlessly, devoid of the typical signs of evolved artificial intelligent species presence.

His confusion grew. WhatWhat had happened to this place? The lack of life, the strange behavior of the glowing individuals, and the confrontation all pointed to something far beyond the ordinary.

Adam’s brows knit tightly as he tried to piece together the puzzle, but the more he thought, the less sense it made.

He stopped in his tracks, staring at the scene before him, the weight of the mystery settling heavily on his shoulders.

The silence was broken by a gruff voice. One of the soldiers, standing tall and rigid, barked at the fourteen-year-old girl,

"You are required to report to the Cultural Center. You are not allowed to remain outside. You’ve broken the rules, and you will be punished for it."

Adam continued his slow advance toward the confrontation, his black shoes treading lightly on the white-tiled road beneath him.

The road shimmered faintly, crisscrossed with glowing blue lines embedded in the surface. But as he moved closer, a sudden change jolted him.

The blue lines beneath his feet abruptly turned a vivid red, and an alarm blared—a piercing sound that echoed through the deserted streets.

Startled, Adam glanced down. The red glow extended outward from where he stood, pulsating angrily, as if the road itself had detected his presence. His mind raced. What is this? How did they know I was here?

The soldiers, who had been entirely focused on the girl moments ago, snapped their heads toward him. Their gazes locked on Adam, their weapons shifting in unison to aim directly at him.

Half of the soldiers, clad in their greenish suits that seemed to merge seamlessly with their forms, began advancing toward Adam.

Their weapons, sleek and emitting a faint hum, were trained on him with unwavering precision. "Get down on the ground, now!" one of them commanded, his voice sharp and mechanical through his helmet’s speaker.

The remaining soldiers, still stationed near the girl, also began inching forward, their attention torn between her and Adam.

The tension in the air grew thicker, almost suffocating, as the soldiers split their focus between two targets.

Adam let out a slow, steady breath. His gaze swept over the advancing soldiers. Despite their intimidating posture, he felt no fear—only a calm resolve.

Extending his hand forward, Adam spoke with an authority that resonated through the street. "You’re standing in my domain, and you dare demand me to surrender?"

The soldiers hesitated for a brief moment, confusion flickering in their movements. Before they could react, Adam flicked his fingers effortlessly.

A sharp, almost imperceptible wave emanated from him. In an instant, the suits of five soldiers nearest to him were violently dismantled.

The pieces of their armor and helmets flew apart, scattering across the white-tiled road, leaving the soldiers stunned and standing in their undergarments.

Their weapons, too, were torn apart, the individual components falling uselessly to the ground.

The street fell silent for a moment, the soldiers frozen in disbelief. The suddenness of Adam’s display of power had left even the others, stationed near the girl, utterly dumbfounded.

Realizing their predicament, the remaining soldiers quickly swung their weapons toward Adam, their movements almost frantic.

Adam, undeterred, raised his hand once again. His voice, calm yet commanding, rang out. "Disassemble."

With a downward motion of his hand, the soldiers’ suits and guns began to collapse piece by piece.

Screws, circuits, and panels were wrenched free as if obeying his unspoken will, falling to the ground in a cascade of metallic debris.

Adam’s sharp eyes caught a detail amidst the chaos—a faint blue glow emanating from the dismantled suits and weapons.

A single, shimmering gem seemed embedded in each, its light pulsing erratically.

So that’s it, Adam thought, his mind piecing together the significance. These gems must be the power source for their technology.

Before he could dwell further on the revelation, movement caught his attention.

The fourteen-year-old girl’s face lit up with a mix of awe and delight as she ran toward him.

Her sudden burst of energy took him by surprise, and for a moment, he simply stood there, watching her approach.

She grabbed his hand, her grip firm despite her small stature. "Let’s go!" she said urgently, her voice breaking through the stunned silence.

Adam opened his mouth to respond, but she tugged at his hand with surprising strength, pulling him along.

Realizing she wasn’t about to wait for him to ask questions, he relented and began running with her.

The girl led him toward a narrow alley, the same one where Ani and Sona had been hiding moments earlier.

The two of them were still there—Sona hovering mid-air, her wings flapping softly, and Ani pressed against the wall, her eyes wide as she tried to process what she had just witnessed.

As Adam and the girl entered the alley, the girl skidded to a halt. Her gaze locked onto Ani and Sona, and for a moment, she simply stared, her expression a mixture of curiosity and surprise.

Snapping out of her daze, she spoke quickly, "We need to get out of here. Follow me." Without waiting for a response, she turned and began running again, her urgency palpable.

Adam followed, his long strides easily keeping pace. Sona soared above them, her wings casting fleeting shadows over the narrow passage. She descended slightly, her voice cutting through the air.

"Lord Adam," she said, her tone questioning, "why are we running? We could handle them easily."

Adam glanced up at her, his expression calm but firm. "I need to understand what’s going on here first. I don’t want to cause unnecessary destruction."

Ani, running behind them, called out breathlessly, "What you just did back there... that was amazing!"

Adam turned his head slightly, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "You liked it?" he asked, his tone light.

Ani nodded enthusiastically, her face lighting up despite the tension.

Adam chuckled softly before refocusing on the path ahead. They continued running, the sound of their footsteps echoing through the empty streets.

The Chapter ends here, leaving Adam and his group in a tense flight, their destination uncertain, but their resolve unshaken.
