Chapter 108: Ani’s Isolation

Chapter 108: Ani’s Isolation

The streets of the city had begun to breathe again after weeks of chaos.

The once-feared vampires who prowled the alleys and struck terror in the hearts of civilians were either captured or turned back into humans, thanks to the relentless efforts of Adam and Tayo.

The-Commission’s team had worked tirelessly to restore order, and as days passed, a semblance of normalcy began to creep back into daily life.

Still, the city bore scars—remnants of destruction and the lingering fear that vampires might return.

Patrols of armed officers were visible on every corner, their presence a silent assurance to the people.

Now as people are starting to come out and get busy with their daily activities, the threat of vampires is slowly diminishing.

Now vampires are rarely seen in the city and whoever appears, Adam turns them back into humans with the help of tayo.

---

Inside her room, Ani sat on her bed, her silver-white hair cascading over her shoulders.

She hadn’t reached out to Adam for days—not a single message or call.

Her phone lay untouched on the bedside table, its silence amplifying the storm in her mind.

Despite the city’s improving situation, Ani felt a weight pressing on her, one she couldn’t escape no matter how hard she tried.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her mother calling from the dining room.

Reluctantly, Ani got up, her movements sluggish.

The light from the dining room was bright, contrasting the shadowy gloom of her room.

At the table sat her parents and her elder sister, who looked at her with an amused smile.

"You’ve been locked in your room for days, Ani," her sister said, her tone playful yet concerned. "I’m going shopping today, and you’re coming with me. No excuses."

Hearing her elder sister’s words, Ani gets very surprised, she did not want to go out at all, that is why she kept herself locked in the room for so many days.

Ani blinked, surprised. "I can’t go outside," she muttered, her voice barely audible.

Her sister laughed. "Come on, the danger has passed!, Feri Tayo and the others have turned most of the vampires back into humans. The streets are safe now."

Ani wanted to refuse her sister’s request, she did not want to go out at any cost right now.

Before Ani could refuse again, her mother spoke up. "She’s right, Ani. You haven’t stepped out in days. Is something bothering you?"

Ani opened her mouth to reply but found herself unable to voice her concerns. Instead, she nodded reluctantly. "Okay, I’ll go."

Her mother smiled warmly, while her sister beamed triumphantly.

Within the hour, Ani found herself stepping out of the house alongside her sister, heading toward the mall.

---

The city looked different now. People were cautiously emerging from their homes, though the tension in the air remained.

Police officers patrolled the streets in groups, their presence both reassuring and a reminder of the recent horrors.

Ani’s eyes darted around as they walked, her unease growing with every step.

Her sister, noticing her discomfort, placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"There’s no need to worry," she said gently. "Almost all the vampires have been dealt with. Besides, the police are everywhere."

Ani nodded, managing a weak smile. They entered the mall, where the lively atmosphere contrasted starkly with the city outside. Shoppers bustled about, and stores were filled with chatter.

Ani followed her sister into a clothing store, though her mind was elsewhere.

Her sister picked out dresses, showing them to Ani, who responded with distracted nods.

After a while, her sister turned to her, concern etched on her face. "Ani, if something’s bothering you, you can tell me."

Before Ani could respond, her attention was drawn to the shop’s entrance.

Ani sees a boy outside, seeing him she is unable to speak anything and her attention remains on the shop’s gate.

Ani’s elder sister draws her attention towards herself by keeping her hand on Ani’s shoulder.

"You were going to tell me something," she ask "Tell me what’s the matter?"

Hearing this, Ani shakes her head and says with a worried face, "I want to go home please"

Ani’s elder sister shakes her head at this and begins walking out of the mall. As the two of them reach the entrance of the mall, they see what is in front of them.

---

As they exited the mall, Ani’s worst fears came true.

A figure stood there—a young man with striking white hair and piercing blue eyes. Her heart sank as recognition dawned.

It was Zora.

Ani froze, her breath caught in her throat. Her sister noticed her reaction and gently shook her shoulder. "Ani? Are you okay?"

Ani tore her gaze away from the entrance.

Zora stood directly in their path, his eyes locking onto hers. His expression softened into a smile, but to Ani, it felt like a predator watching its prey.

Ani’s sister glanced at Zora, then back at Ani. "Do you know him?"

Ani couldn’t respond. Her legs felt like they were rooted to the ground, her body refusing to move.

Around them, whispers began to ripple through the growing crowd. "Isn’t that Zora, The-Commission’s team member?" one voice said.

"Yeah, it’s him," another whispered.

The murmurs grew louder, drawing more people toward the scene.

Zora’s smile faded as he raised his hand, and suddenly, a gravitational field materialized around Ani, her sister, and himself.

A circular line appeared on the ground, separating them from the crowd.

The spectators gasped in astonishment, stepping back from the invisible barrier.

Zora’s voice rang out, calm yet commanding. "Anyone who crosses this line will face the consequences."

His words sent a chill through the onlookers, silencing the crowd.

Ani’s sister looked at him, then at Ani, her protective instincts kicking in. "Ani," she whispered, "what’s going on?"

Ani couldn’t answer. Her eyes were fixed on Zora, her mind racing with fear and confusion.

Zora took a deep breath, his intense gaze never leaving Ani.

The Chapter ends here, leaving a sense of tension and dread lingering in the air.
