Chapter 75: Chapter 74: One Night Affair
As the evening approached, Guo Kaichen finally arrived near the Heavenly Fallen Objects Shelter in the Konse Suburb operated by Tiantai Pharmaceutical.
The black hourglass-shaped building under the dim sky seemed like a tombstone.
At this moment, he was crouching on a dirt slope a few hundred meters away from the shelter, taking out a thermal imaging monocular with battery box from his bag to monitor the activities around the building.
He spotted four heavy-duty off-road vehicles outside the building, where numerous armed personnel were using hoists to lower computers from the upper-level glass laboratory.
Four heavy transport helicopters hovered over the platform, attempting to unload the chains that bound large iron spheres.
Guo Kaichen turned off the night vision and zoomed in 100 times, carefully identifying the faces of the armed militants.
They were all locals.
Were they from Tiantai Pharmaceutical? He couldn’t be sure. However, he concluded that a battle had taken place on the slope beneath his feet, a swift and decisive one, and the traces of the fight had been crudely covered up.
Guo Kaichen touched the soil on the ground surface, noting obvious signs of disturbance; those responsible for cleaning up were not professionals.
He gently pushed aside the surface soil and found several holes used to secure a type of portable gun mount. That equipment was largely from last century’s mortars...
Was it local armed forces? Neither the conservatives nor the radicals would bother, after all, the pharmaceutical companies were their bread and butter.
Could it be the recently emerged local civilian militias? That didn’t make sense either... they had no reason to attack the pharmaceutical company’s shelter.
Guo Kaichen sighed. The shelter in Qiyang City had been bombed before they entered the country; he had hoped that the reconnaissance mission at the Konse shelter would go more smoothly but, unexpectedly, it too had been attacked.
He guessed that the current transport team was either from Tiantai Pharmaceutical itself, transferring important materials, or they were from the attackers, transporting their spoils.
"Raise your hands slowly, put your head down, and then lie flat!"
While he was pondering, the back of Guo Kaichen’s head was suddenly met with the muzzle of a gun.
Unable to see what was happening behind him, he had no choice but to comply. After he lay down, several pairs of boots entered his field of view.
He turned his head to look; the three men in front of him were dressed in dark blue uniforms, equipped with bulletproof vests and helmets. The weapons in their hands were not the outdated Type 90s and AKs, but the ICRs equipped by various countries in Yin. However, their faces were all East Continent people.
"Hey? Guys, are you locals or mercenaries? State your affiliation, don’t let the flood sweep the Dragon King Temple, we might be from the same side," Guo Kaichen said with a smile, lying on the ground.
The other party didn’t respond but began rummaging through his backpack.
One of them snatched the monocular from his hand, knelt down, and demanded, "Where are you from?!"
Guo Kaichen said, "Can I sit while I talk? Lying down is a bit uncomfortable."
"Speak quickly!" the man said sternly.
"Huff, huff, huff... I have asthma... huff, huff... If you don’t believe me, check my bag for a small bottle of medicine..." Guo Kaichen added.
The man turned back to look at his companion rifling through the bag, who indeed found a white plastic bottle inside, opened it, and saw that it was full of black pills the size of pearls.
"Damn it... Kneel down!" the man exclaimed.
Guo Kaichen then rose from the ground and knelt on one knee, taking the chance to look around; there were only about seven or eight of them, not many. Excluding the one holding the gun to his back, the others were not too close.
"Huff, huff... I, I am an observer sent by Red Pharmaceutical. You wouldn’t happen to be from Tiantai, would you?" Guo Kaichen lied.
"Are you also from Red Pharmaceutical...?" the man asked suspiciously, his doubtful gaze fixed on him.
That was all he needed.
The man’s eyeballs suddenly burst into flames, and blue fire spewed from his nostrils.
The next second, his face instantly darkened, wrinkled, and shriveled due to burning; circles of charred lines appeared on his face.
"Ah!!!! I’m on fire!! I’m on fire!!!" The man covered his scorched face, screaming in agony as he stumbled backward and tumbled down the dirt slope.
Meanwhile, Guo Kaichen quickly lay down on the ground and shouted, "We’re under attack!"
Watching their companion burst into flames, the remaining militants scrambled backward, searching for cover.
Guo Kaichen chuckled, glanced back, and ignited a fire among the group.
He picked up the bottle, his inner frustrations ready to burst, unscrewed the cap, and poured seven pills into his mouth in one go.
Looking behind him, there were only eight charred bodies left on the ground.
At that moment, his mobile phone in the pocket of his assault jacket vibrated. Upon checking, it was Lin Yanqing who had called.
Both of them carried encrypted mobile phones, making calls through Yin Country’s satellite phones, which no one could eavesdrop on.
"You haven’t called all day, have you found anything?" Lin Yanqing asked.
"The people from Red Pharmaceutical have taken down the tower in Konse Suburb and are currently transporting goods," he replied.
"Have you had any contact with them?" Lin Yanqing asked again.
"I had a run-in with a few patrollers. I’ll wait for their transport team to move out and then sneak in to take a look. I won’t be coming back tonight," replied Guo Kaichen.
"Don’t get into conflicts easily, and don’t misuse your superpower! We can’t let anyone know our identity!" Lin Yanqing warned sternly.
"I understand..." Guo Kaichen sighed.
At the same time, far away in Linjiang City, in the commanding officer’s residence...
Ruan Yu coldly observed the man, whose appearance bore no difference from that of a pig, with blackened lips and forehead as if poisoned, his body skinny yet his belly accumulated fat—an unsightly, deformed figure coupled with his repulsive expression, drawing a disdainful cold sneer across Ruan Yu’s face.
Nevertheless, Ruan Yu softly spoke, "General Tun truly deserves to be the tyrant of Chicken Snake Country; your physique and presence are as formidable as ever, it almost distracts me."
A smug smile surfaced on Tun Yun’s face, and his eyes seemed ready to open wide. Spotting this, Ruan Yu immediately switched her expression, biting her lower lip, squinting her eyes and starting to breathe lightly.
"Usually, I see Miss Ruan in a suit; I never imagined such a beautiful sight beneath the robe~" Tun Yun commented with a laugh.
"General Tun, you must promptly handle the matter you promised," Ruan Yu urged.
"No rush, no rush, a bunch of bandits are setting up an ambush on the mountain for me; once I blow them all away, I’ll organize someone to transport your stuff," Tun Yun replied with a laugh.
He opened his eyes and reached out to touch Ruan Yu’s cheek, and Ruan Yu, feigning cooperation like a cat, rubbed her cheek against the back of his hand, making a moaning sound.
"Then please hurry. They’re just a group of bandits, and you have air control. Why not strike proactively?" Ruan Yu pressed.
"It keeps pouring these days, helicopters can’t fly. No rush, my little beauty~ No national affairs in bed, come~" Tun Yun said with a laugh.
Ruan Yu was then engulfed by Tun Yun’s arms as he grabbed her hair and pressed her to his chest, followed by another tumultuous encounter...
