Chapter 68: Chapter 67 Ishmael... you cannot kill an ally
The day after Moby Dick had left, the radical armed faction contacted Yaha via radio.
They were expected to deploy six infantry squads, three mortar teams, and two light helicopters for the battle, while Red Pharmaceutical would also utilize a fighter jet to provide air support.
The Black House’s job was to assist with their abilities in the midst of it all.
Wei Tianyang couldn’t shake the feeling that this was not so much revenge as it was hitching a ride...
Red Pharmaceutical aimed to seize the Heavenly Falling Objects controlled by Tiantai Pharmaceutical and push them out of Chicken Snake Country.
If Tiantai Pharmaceutical was backed by the Sethiyan Federation—given their aligned interests and the same conservative faction they sponsored—then who was backing Red Pharmaceutical?
Not to mention Li Fei’s connections... it was very likely Yin Country.
The small Chicken Snake Country seemed to have too many puppet masters behind the scenes.
Yaha had no intention of deploying his entire team; including himself, he chose only eight members to participate in this battle.
Yaha’s ability guaranteed the safety of his members, and he was determined to bring everyone back after the great battle.
Starbucks had a wide-range control ability that could render the opponent’s gunpowder weapons ineffective, which would be a tremendous advantage.
There were five others that Wei Tianyang had briefly encountered in the hallway but had not really spoken to.
Pivot, a simple and honest 19-year-old boy who could create a massive pulling force on a particular object out of thin air, launching it when released; the only downside was that the effect depended on the weight of the object.
Center, the oldest female in the Black House, a plain-looking but gentle 25-year-old sister figure who could emit some kind of radiation within a 400-meter radius from herself, blocking out the fear response in humans.
Kong Kong, a boy of the same age as Wei Tianyang, got on particularly well with Pivot and their abilities were highly compatible; Kong Kong could accelerate objects in flight to twice their normal speed, whether it was something Pivot launched or bullets from a gun barrel.
Electromagnetic Wave, a skinny and tall 20-year-old man who was taciturn and, like Kacha, enjoyed reading; he had the ability to disrupt the operation of a single electromagnetic device regardless of distance and based solely on his line of sight...more twisted was his ability to interfere with targets he observed through a screen...
The last one, codenamed Tap Dance, was a fiery 19-year-old Indya girl; privately, she also referred to herself as "Mirror." She could force everyone within a 20-meter radius to imitate her movements, as if looking in a mirror.
Finally, there was Wei Tianyang... Ishmael, as Yaha put it, was the only member of the Superpower Special Department in the Black House, who could single-handedly turn the tide of battle...
On the day of departure, the sky was overcast; they planned to launch the attack at noon. The Black House’s eight people rode in a black boxy vehicle to the countryside to rendezvous with the radical armed forces.
Kongse was a stronghold of the conservative faction, but recently, under the impact of Li Fei, all troops had been redeployed to defend Linjiang City and Six-faced God Mountain.
According to guerrilla intelligence, the prison camps at He Mountain had been emptied, and as they left, the conservatives had killed all the prisoners.
Four squads of the radical faction’s infantry had already assembled near Kongse. Over a hundred people, whooping and milling about, gathered at an abandoned campsite; on their way there, they had also casually taken out four conservative temporary outposts.
The leading official, in Wei Tianyang’s view, was no different from the conservatives. In their first meeting and buoyed by the large size of his troops, the officer actually had the audacity to verbally harass Yaha and the three women in the team, and he demanded that Yaha and the three women must ride in the commander’s vehicle.
Such an unreasonable demand was naturally refused by Yaha.
"Then we’re not fighting."
The officer smiled and sat on the hood of his jeep. His lascivious eyes scanned over Starbucks’ chest.
"Yaha, we’ll go on our own," Wei Tianyang said, irritated.
"How’s your hand?" Yaha asked with concern.
"Just need a few people to die." His fiery red eyes swept over the group of soldiers, and his skeletal right hand encased in bandages couldn’t help but yearn to transform into a Bone Knife.
The officer, seeing Wei Tianyang’s defiant tone, jumped down from the car and approached him with a fierce expression on his round face, his eyes bulging as if they were about to pop out of his sockets.
This infuriated Wei Tianyang.
Whether it was the radicals or the conservatives, they were all the same.
The country was embroiled in chaos, yet the people were slaughtered and sold by their own soldiers. What had these soldiers done? How dare they bare their ferocity towards the very people they were meant to protect?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Some force in his heart was throbbing, and something sliced open the bandages, releasing a thick, scorching liquid that, in the next second, splashed across his face.
When Wei Tianyang came to his senses, his right hand had already become a Bone Knife with half a kidney and a lump of liver stuck in its grooves, his body covered in blood.
The soldiers around him all had their guns pointed at him.
He looked down to see that the radical commander had turned into six pieces of rotten flesh, evenly scattered in the muddy ground.
"Ishmael... you..." Starbucks’s facial expression darkened.
The battle hadn’t even started yet, and he had already slashed their ally’s commander...
She couldn’t care less; she first used her superpower to lock down their weapons before the group of official soldiers could fire at them.
"My friend here... has a bit of a temper. If you provoke him... it looks like we’ll have to go to war by ourselves today," Yaha said with a laugh.
However, that moment of clarity was brief. As soon as Yaha finished speaking, Wei Tianyang passed by his side, his eyes red as he darted into the crowd.
"Ishmael!" Starbucks called out anxiously.
But then he saw several arms being flung up in the crowd.
Curses and shouts were muddled together as Yaha was shielded by the other members of the Black House, yet he clung to someone’s shoulder, shouting into the crowd: "He’s having a Black Medicine episode!!! Someone go give him an injection!"
The radical soldiers all pulled their triggers on Wei Tianyang, but their weapons had been locked up by Starbucks—not just the rifles, but even the rocket launchers on their backs and the grenades on their chests wouldn’t fire.
They had never anticipated this scenario. They were not in combat formation, too crowded, and many hadn’t even donned their gear properly.
Even when slaughtering refugees in greater numbers, facing meager resistance, they hadn’t experienced such brutality as now.
Before them, this boy in his teens took six lives with a single swipe of his claw...
Four infantry squads, nearly fifty people, were more than half decimated in less than a minute. Soldiers lay scattered across the ground, no longer moving.
Wei Tianyang’s face was covered in blood, his right arm wrapped in bloodied energy, slowly shifting from a skeletal state back to normal, the bandages unraveling and falling away.
They were running. He was chasing them.
Just as the group was about to reach the camp’s exit, the ground trembled and a mud wall rose in front of them, sealing off the last escape route. Then, the ground wrapped around each person’s ankles, immobilizing them.
At that moment, three black SUVs pulled up from behind Yaha.
Watson got out of the vehicle first, followed by six gunmen. His stern face suddenly fell, incredulous; he removed his sunglasses, looking over the devastation.
Moby Dick, dressed in a white suit, was the last to painstakingly shimmy out of the back seat of the car. As soon as he got out, Watson rushed up to whisper in his ear.
"What happened?!" Moby Dick’s heart sank.
He cautiously approached Yaha, staring at the intestines, heads, and limbs strewn about the ground...
Not far away, a group of people sat on the ground, mute with fear, their feet bound by mud, all looking in the same direction.
Wei Tianyang was breathing heavily. He wiped his face with his sleeve and sat on the hood of the commander’s jeep, only then coming to his senses somewhat.
As a certain emotion within him subsided, his right hand, wet and slick, returned to its normal form. Looking around, he saw that Moby Dick had arrived with his people.
He had expected Moby Dick to be furious with shame, but, to his surprise, the man showed no hysterical anger, maintaining a calm demeanor instead.
Moby Dick approached the soldiers trapped there, saying, "The rest of you, come with us."
"Fuck off! We’re not fighting anymore! Take your freaks and..." One of the soldiers cursed angrily, but before he could finish, a hole suddenly appeared in his forehead, blood splattered, and he fell to the ground, motionless.
Watson retracted his electromagnetic pistol, standing respectfully at Moby Dick’s side.
"The money that should have gone to the dead men will be divided among you. Otherwise, die here. Think about it whether you’d rather take the money and live it up, or lie like dog shit in this muddy field. Think about why you became soldiers in the first place!" Moby Dick said with a smile.
The remaining soldiers stayed quiet, exchanging glances and nodding silently to each other.
Seeing this, Moby Dick had Watson and the gunmen keep an eye on this broken group. Then, he walked over to Wei Tianyang.
"I think I understand your way of doing things now. That group of soldiers can’t be kept alive. After we finish this fight, kill them all," Moby Dick said with a smile.
Wei Tianyang didn’t pay him any attention and jumped down from the jeep to approach Yaha.
He heard Moby Dick saying repeatedly from behind, "Next time, try not to kill our allies so easily, okay?!"
