Chapter 67: Chapter 66: The Northern Front Conflict
For two consecutive weeks, there had been no rain, and the temperature just kept dropping. Winter had arrived, and the weather had turned frigid.
During this time, Wei Tianyang, with the help of Li Bin and Du Yan, had been learning some basic military knowledge, such as how to read military maps, how to maintain firearms, how to conduct reconnaissance, and how to devise a tactical plan before attacking a regional target.
More often, though, they were telling stories of their past, sharing anecdotes from their childhood and youth, as well as what Chicken Snake Country was like back then.
When discussing those topics, it was only then Du Yan’s face would reveal a carefree smile from her younger years, and Li Bin would wax lyrical about the TV shows and music he loved as a child.
The guerrillas nearby were also happily sharing their own stories.
It was then that Wei Tianyang realized no one was born a warrior.
They were all children from ordinary families; when the nation was headed towards the abyss, some chose to step forward, forsaking normal life, extending their hands.
Moreover, during this period, the Guerrilla Dead scoured various parts of Chicken Snake Country, amassing a great deal of war intelligence.
With these invisible agents, Wei Tianyang gained a comprehensive understanding of the progress of the external war—his intelligence might have even been more detailed than that of the warring parties themselves.
Li Fei’s New Liberation Front had already taken over most of the conservative faction’s territory and was currently stalled at the southern end of Linjiang City, at Six-faced God Mountain.
Li Bin was familiar with that mountain; during Chicken Snake Country’s first civil war decades ago, the guerrillas had also been impeded by that mountain for a long time.
The Six-faced God Mountain was named for the small temple at its peak, enshrining six stone Buddhas looking in six directions, one of the few tourist attractions in Chicken Snake Country.
The mountain range went on for more than ten kilometers, with the highest point exceeding six hundred meters, and to the west lay the Linjiang River, which bisected Chicken Snake Country.
Linjiang City was built along this great river, with the Six-faced God Mountain to its south, making it easily defensible but hard to assault.
The conservative faction’s army commander, Tun Yun, had stationed heavy forces there and dispatched four fighter jets and several helicopters for air support, so the New Liberation Front simply couldn’t get through.
Wei Tianyang had no intention of helping out. This wasn’t his war; Li Fei needed to face it himself.
Besides, his right hand was still in skeletal form, he couldn’t control the earth, nor could he heal wounds—that was a genuine front line. Halfway competent as he was, going there would just mean adding to the casualties.
What he was more concerned about was Tiantai Pharmaceutical’s movements.
Since the collapse of Zero Nine One Reception Station, Tiantai Pharmaceutical had strengthened the defenses of other reception stations. Yaha once said that the first step of revenge was to liberate the Medicine People from those reception stations.
Two months had passed now, and the preparations of the Black House had been disrupted by his actions.
Yaha’s connection, Red Pharmaceutical, had obviously become disgruntled with him. The man who had planned to assault Yaha in the Wuliang City hotel was their mouthpiece.
Moreover, by helping the Guerrilla Dead and allowing Li Fei to escape at He Mountain, he had offended the major power behind the conservative faction and even killed the Mud Man they had sent.
This might have already ruined Yaha’s connection.
However, Yaha didn’t blame Wei Tianyang for this, which couldn’t help but make him feel fortunate.
In the afternoon, he saw three black sedans drive into the hotel’s underground parking lot. About half an hour later, Starbucks came to his room and called him upstairs.
Yaha’s room door was still not closed, and outside stood a swarthy bald man in a black suit, wearing sunglasses, hands placed on his stomach, expressionlessly watching him.
"His bodyguard," Starbucks whispered.
"Who?" Wei Tianyang didn’t catch on at first.
But after he entered the room, he finally understood.
Moby Dick.
"So... Moby Dick, are we done talking?" Yaha sat in the armchair with a cold demeanor, speaking to Moby Dick.
It sounded like their less than pleasant conversation had come to an end.
So, this man was named Moby Dick?
He stood there, dressed in a white suit, but as soon as Wei Tianyang saw him, he remembered the man’s naked figure in that room, utterly repulsive.
"Yaha, what’s he doing here?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"I believe there’s been some misunderstanding between us." Moby Dick looked at Wei Tianyang and said.
His smile made Wei Tianyang uncomfortable because his eyes didn’t convey goodwill but intense hatred.
"I don’t think it’s just a misunderstanding." Wei Tianyang said.
"The minor cooperation between Red Pharmaceutical and The Black House won’t cease just because of the unpleasantness of our last meeting, that’s what I wanted to say." Moby Dick said.
After that, Moby Dick left the room in an odd posture.
Once he had gone, Wei Tianyang then asked, "What’s wrong with his ass?"
"A scalpel stabbed into his rectum and incidentally punctured his hemorrhoids, that’s as much as I can say." Yaha said.
"...He told you that?" Wei Tianyang was taken aback.
"Yes, and he even had the gall to ask me to transfer the injury from his ass. Then I refused." Yaha said.
"He didn’t come here just to say that, did he?" Wei Tianyang said.
Starbucks stepped forward, holding a stack of paper documents, and she spread them out on Yaha’s desk.
"Of course not. Red Pharmaceutical has recently discovered that Tiantai is attempting to transfer Heavenly Falling Objects from various reception stations, so... they could not sit still. Plus, given the strength you showed before... they’ve decided to ask us to capture the reception station in the Konse Suburb within the next few days." Yaha said.
"You’ve mentioned before that we only have a dozen or so people who can fight head-on." Wei Tianyang said.
"Correct, which is why we don’t need to engage in direct combat. Red Pharmaceutical will bring in a squad of radicals to help, they’ll attack head-on and we’ll support with our superpowers. There might even be fighter jets providing air support." Yaha said.
Fighter jets...
Wei Tianyang thought of the bombed factory.
He looked at Starbucks, who seemed to have guessed his thoughts and nodded slightly.
"So the factory, they bombed it." Wei Tianyang said.
"They’ve deployed several fighter jets here, using the radical faction’s airfield. Crossing conservative airspace is a risky business, so they won’t stay long..." Yaha said.
"Yaha, I feel like we’re asking one murderer for help to deal with another." Wei Tianyang sighed.
"That’s how the world works. Even you can’t fight this battle alone. We’re out for revenge, not a death mission. Any help is necessary." Yaha said.
"These are the interior blueprints of the reception station provided by Red’s spies... Although we’ve all been inside before, it’s been so long that everyone has probably almost forgotten, right?" Starbucks interrupted the two and spread out the blueprints.
Wei Tianyang looked at the blueprints, and the dark underground morgue surfaced in his mind again.
Last time, they had come out of there. This time, they were going in from the outside.
