Chapter 65: 64 Chapters Yaha, what is 091?
Late at night.
Moonlight spilled across Wei Tianyang’s back, and a gentle breeze caused the curtains to flutter.
A warm, moist, and faintly fragrant scent wafted into the room from under the door, accompanied by the smell of grapes and alcohol.
He turned over and got out of bed, using his skeletal right hand to throw back the covers and saw a orange candlelight glowing from beneath the door.
The other person didn’t knock but just stood there.
Wei Tianyang got out of bed, clad only in light clothes and pants, walked barefoot to the door, and opened it.
It was Yaha.
He had his white hair loose, dressed in a loose-fitting white gauze nightgown, revealing much of his chest, where collarbone and shoulder lines joined, bending into crescent moon-like curves, and the moonlight left a sliver of shadow at the chest line.
He was holding three bottles of wine and two wine glasses.
"Can’t sleep tonight, want to head up to the rooftop for a couple of drinks?" Yaha asked.
"I don’t drink," Wei Tianyang shook his head.
Yaha grinned his signature radiant smile, the corners of his bright red lips revealing a hint of white teeth. He took the initiative and, holding the wine glasses, hooked his hand around Wei Tianyang’s arm.
"It’s not that hard," he laughed.
Pushed and pulled along, the two ascended to the rooftop.
The bright moon hung high, and the night was cloudless. Stars twinkled in their rightful places, reflecting the sun’s light, making themselves shine.
It was early winter, but the temperature tonight was not cold, even climbing to 22 degrees—a consequence of global climate warming.
The environmental protection and emission reduction measures of various countries were not very effective. Countries that already had low carbon emissions couldn’t reduce much further. Those big carbon emitters did nothing, continuing to go their own way, yet they pointed fingers at others.
The small table used for the membership initiation ceremony now served as their wine table.
Wei Tianyang hadn’t drunk before, let alone wine, but he had smelled the stinking alcohol on conservative soldiers. In his mind, alcohol was always associated with some unpleasant things.
But wine seemed different from liquor; both the smell and taste were quite nice, whether smelling or drinking it.
After a few glasses, he felt a warmth surge within him, his face hot, his body relaxed.
Yaha was the same; his face was flushed, lazily sprawled on the table, resting his left hand on his cheek, toying with a wine glass in his right, and sneakily smiling at Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang was slightly tipsy and blurted out, "Yaha, are you a man or a woman?"
Yaha laughed, shoulders shaking. He downed the red wine in his glass and said, "It’s a congenital disease; I have no defined reproductive system with sexual characteristics. The doctor says I have no physical capacity to love... but what does it matter? He, she, it—call me whatever you like; I don’t care at all."
Wei Tianyang drained his glass of red wine too, and while Yaha poured more, he remembered the scene he saw in the Moby Dick room.
If anything, Yaha had the chest line of a woman, no Adam’s apple, smooth skin, and a voice that was slightly deep for a woman.
Character-wise, Yaha appeared to lean more towards female mentally.
But... Wei Tianyang suddenly let go of his concern. He no longer dwelled on the matter. Yaha was what he could see in front of him; Yaha was Yaha, whether man or woman, it wouldn’t change his essence.
"What would you think of me, Ishmael?" Yaha teased.
"Before, I just thought you were some mysterious little leader of an organization, with some behaviors I couldn’t understand. But now..." Wei Tianyang swirled his wine glass, "We’ve gone through life and death together."
"You saved me, twice," Yaha said.
"You saved me too. If it wasn’t for that round of bullets, I would have been shot into a sieve by that special forces team," Wei Tianyang said.
"So you’re trying to say that we’re even now, is that it?" Yaha smiled.
"We could trust each other more," Wei Tianyang said.
"I’ve already opened up my heart to you, Ishmael," Yaha said.
"Then tell me what you saw in the document I brought out. What exactly is Project 091?" Wei Tianyang asked calmly.
A flicker of surprise crossed Yaha’s face, but it was quickly masked by a smile.
"How did you know?"
"I placed the document inside a black canvas bag and stuffed it under my bed. You sneaked into my room, looked through the document, and then put it back exactly how it was. But, the paper had your scent."
...
As Yaha listened, he toyed with the tips of his tea-colored hair.
His face still wore that mischievous smile, but Wei Tianyang could see that through his seemingly casual actions, he was desperately trying to hide his embarrassment from being caught red-handed.
"When was this? It couldn’t have been recent because... the scent has faded," Wei Tianyang added.
"That night... you went out alone. I saw you from the window, walking into the artificial forest by yourself, and it seemed like you were talking to someone, but there was no one around you," Yaha said.
Wei Tianyang thought back briefly and realized that Yaha was talking about the night he went to He Mountain to find Li Fei.
"What’s more. The timing of you finding me was just too perfect. Qiayang City is not small; how did you know I was there? And how were you able to appear so exactly after I dealt with that tank?" Wei Tianyang said.
Yaha drained his cup and then leaned back in the small chair, pondering for a moment before speaking, "You’re right, Ishmael, our meeting was not by chance."
"Is it related to your connections? I guess it was another pharmaceutical company," Wei Tianyang asked.
Yaha nodded in acknowledgment.
Wei Tianyang laughed, looking up at the starry sky, and said, "How ironic that we seek revenge on pharmaceutical companies, yet we accept help from another one."
"The other party is Red Pharmaceutical. The man in that hotel was also sent by them," Yaha said in a low voice, his eyes careful as he looked at Wei Tianyang, like a child who had done something wrong.
"Why would they do that, Yaha?!" Wei Tianyang was a bit angry.
"When a superman flies in the sky, he doesn’t need to jab his neck with needles," Yaha repeated.
"I don’t need that stuff at all," Wei Tianyang said.
"That’s why I found you!" Yaha was also a bit agitated.
"It was several months ago... Red Pharmaceutical provided me with information. They said that Tiantai Pharmaceutical had invested in over a thousand Medicine People for experiments with Project 091 of the Heavenly Falling Objects before the civil war started. You were the only survivor who exhibited superpowers," Yaha continued.
"They’ve been watching me since then?" Wei Tianyang found it hard to believe.
"They said you killed someone on a construction site, and afterward Tiantai Pharmaceutical’s people bailed you out. But, before Tiantai Pharmaceutical took away the body you had destroyed from the public security bureau, a spy from Red Pharmaceutical took photos," Yaha said.
Wei Tianyang was momentarily stunned as he recalled the various events of the past year.
"After you injected the Black Medicine, spies surrounded you... Ishmael... Also, calling you by that name... was to avoid drawing attention. Your name is being circulated among spies from all the major pharmaceutical companies..." Yaha said.
"Damn it... I..." Wei Tianyang was at a loss for words.
"Red Pharmaceutical provided all the information related to you, helping me to find you. Because you possess this power, you can assist us in achieving our revenge," Yaha said.
"What exactly is written in that document! What on earth is Project 091?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"Don’t compare yourself with the other Medicine People; you are the Superpower Special Department! Moreover, it is very likely that you’re a double triangle... or even a Trinity-level..." Yaha whispered.
