I Am Extraordinary Alone

Chapter 64: Chapter 63: The One Who Demonstrates Power

Wei Tianyang and Yaha returned in the truck driven by Starbucks and Kacha.

The attack hadn’t damaged Yaha’s phone, allowing Wei Tianyang to escape the fate of having to carry Yaha back to Kongse on his back.

Before leaving the muddy battlefield, he had searched for the Mud Man’s corpse for a while.

Unfortunately, seconds after the Mud Man’s body hit the ground, it, along with its clothes, ammunition, and bulletproof vest, was annihilated, leaving behind only a sci-fi-looking light machine gun.

Starbucks brought three mouse cages, which instantly restored Yaha to full health status. He tried to restore Wei Tianyang’s hand, which had turned into a skeleton, but found it impossible.

Wei Tianyang swiftly regenerated his body, mutilated by the light machine gun, and then used his mud superpower so extensively that his right hand was consumed down to a skeleton. Only by killing another group of unfortunate souls could he be restored.

He also gradually figured out the rules of his own energy cycle:

His right hand was a semi-permanent consumable; using semi-finished superpowers, like Bone Knife and heavy punches, would almost never deplete it.

However, when he used real superpowers, like controlling mud and regenerating flesh... that would greatly consume his right arm.

The degrees of depletion from full to empty were in this order: a normal human hand, skin and bones, a skeleton hanging with blood vessels and flesh strands, and a purely black skeleton.

Even in skeletal form, Wei Tianyang could still use semi-finished superpowers like Bone Knife and heavy punches without any reduction in effectiveness.

The only way to recover was one: to kill, to absorb their blood qi.

Moreover, killing different people yielded different colors of blood qi, with different effects.

The blood qi from ordinary people and semi-product Medicine People was red; his skeletal hand would need to absorb more than a dozen ordinary people to be fully restored.

The blood qi of Mud People, who belonged to the superpower special departments marked with an enclosed isosceles triangle, was black; absorbing one could restore him to half.

Furthermore, as long as the defeated enemy had superpowers, he could absorb them into his hand... and trigger them by clenching his fist.

There was no need to learn, no prerequisites or post-conditions required; by consuming his own right hand, he could reach the same level as the original owner of the ability.

Wei Tianyang felt like a superpower black hole.

Yaha had said that there was no precedent in this world for someone possessing multiple superpowers: either one’s own constitution was special, or the object from crash zero nine one was not ordinary.

Although his hand had turned into a skeleton, Wei Tianyang certainly couldn’t just kill a dozen people at random, so he simply wrapped his forearm in a bandage and left it at that.

They brought the driver’s body back to Pei Guode Hotel, and after Wei Tianyang and Yaha had cleaned themselves, they held a small funeral for the driver in the evening.

The silent driver had been a good man, asking no questions before rushing into the blaze to rescue people with Wei Tianyang, and after getting acquainted, he could even make small talk.

Wei Tianyang wasn’t sad; he just felt it was a pity.

After the funeral, he had no appetite to eat and returned to his room, collapsing into a deep sleep on the bed.

As night fell,

Yaha, naked, walked past the room’s long table, still dripping with water.

He couldn’t wash off the stench of mud, which made him feel nauseated.

Wiping his white hair, he walked toward the wardrobe on the other side of the room, leaving wet footprints on the floor.

The wardrobe contained loose white chiffon ladies’ nightgowns, purple fuzzy bathrobes, and deep blue men’s pajamas; he pondered for a moment, choosing the set that best matched his current mood.

The phone on the desk vibrated, the caller ID provoking complex emotions within him.

He answered the call, standing by the window; he opened the window, letting in the cool night air that freely caressed his pale neck.

"Lady Yaha, we’ve received word you did two things today."

It was the old man from Red Pharmaceutical; Yaha couldn’t tell if the other party was calling to reprimand or for some other reason.

"Mr. Bozeman, your information is as astute as always," Yaha said with a laugh.

On the window, the orange candlelight overlapped with the rising moon, reflecting his mischievous smile.

"After all, one must keep a dog’s leash tight to prevent it from biting its master," Bozeman was not one for pleasantries.

"If you want a dog not to bite, feeding it plenty of meat is much more effective than tightening its leash," Yaha declared.

"I prefer a combination of both, which is why I want to discuss the first matter with you. Moby Dick, you met with him today, didn’t you?" Bozeman said.

"The meeting wasn’t so friendly, is this what you call ’keeping a tight leash’?" Yaha scoffed.

"I’d rather refer to Moby Dick’s visit as a measure of both carrot and stick," Bozeman stated.

"He botched it," Yaha said.

"I’m aware of his character, and I’m confident that he’s proficient in handling the stick, but entrusting him with the carrot might not be as reliable," Bozeman said.

"His fate was self-inflicted; I don’t want to know how he explained it to you, but... I detest him," Yaha avowed.

"He has other affairs to attend to in Chicken Snake Country; you won’t see him again. Moreover, I’m convinced that you’ve realized the gravity of the situation," Bozeman explained.

"We were attacked, by a superpower special force. Clearly, we have the capability to settle this matter," Yaha affirmed.

"That’s the ’gravity’ I’m talking about. They are agents from the Sethiyan Federation, proxy wars in the Southern East Continent area involving multi-nation geopolitical conflicts; it’s also why I warned you not to get involved. I’m curious, Lady Yaha, how did you manage to escape retribution from the Sethiyan Federation, and even... kill them?" Bozeman inquired.

"I have my ways. Mr. Bozeman, I just want to know what your stance is now," Yaha said.

"You have shown strength, forcing me to reassess our partnership; and I’ve always known that you want to upgrade Black House into a superpower PMC..." Bozeman spoke.

"You also know... such an organization can’t operate without the backing of the pharmaceutical industry," Yaha asserted.

"Let’s be honest, Black House avoided retaliation, but... the person who broke into He Mountain, released the leader of the old revolutionary forces of Chicken Snake Country, and who escaped retaliation and killed the superpower special force... that person wasn’t you," Bozeman said with a cold laugh.

"Humph..." Yaha was speechless.

"Let me put it more bluntly... I want to talk to the person who truly demonstrated their power," Bozeman stated.

"Is this some kind of divide and conquer strategy?" Yaha chuckled.

"No, we will still supply Black House with whatever materials you want, but next time, I’ll send along a phone for you; you’d better hand this phone over to him," Bozeman said, chuckling coldly a few more times before hanging up.

Yaha remained silent, gazing out at the artificial forest draped in silver gauze, his mind swirling with myriad thoughts.

"I can’t let him leave..." he murmured to himself.
