Chapter 60 - 59 Private Services
Chapter 60: Chapter 59 Private Services
The next day at noon, Yaha came to Wei Tianyang’s room. Yesterday’s minor conflict hadn’t created any rift between them, and now, their small organization was facing real trouble. In front of that trouble, the fury bursting from Wei Tianyang’s crimson eyes instead gave him a sense of security.
"Accompany me on a long trip today," Yaha stood at the door, his tone a mix of negotiation and pleading.
Wei Tianyang was sitting cross-legged on the bed, his hands grasping at something in the air, his eyes fixed on the blank bedsheets in front of him, seemingly lost in some unknown activity.
But Yaha had grown accustomed to such sleepwalking-like behavior; Wei Tianyang’s symptoms from Black Medicine were different from the others and more severe.
"Me? Why not ask Starbucks?"
Wei Tianyang dropped the AK47 components he was holding and looked up at Yaha.
Beside him, three guerrillas also stopped their teaching about firearms disassembly and maintenance. By now, he had basically figured out the structure of the AK family of guns and could assemble and disassemble them with ease, though his hands were still not fast enough.
"She has other things to do... it has to be you," Yaha entered the room.
He was wearing pants that accentuated his legs and still that same white trench coat, but this time, he had his hair pulled up, wore black square glasses, and earrings, looking like a gentle, dignified female teacher.
Wei Tianyang rolled out of bed, picked up the jacket from the chair, and draped it over his shoulders.
"Let’s continue when I get back," he said towards the empty corner of the room.
Yaha smiled, said nothing, and quietly waited for Wei Tianyang to put on his shoes.
After getting ready, Wei Tianyang walked up to Yaha, who surprisingly took his arm and leaned in close.
Wei Tianyang could feel Yaha trembling slightly, which meant he was scared of something, but still tried to keep his composure.
He looked down and noticed that Yaha was wearing women’s flat shoes.
"You wouldn’t be..." Wei Tianyang began.
If he was dragging him out to rent a room, tearing up with this broken organization wouldn’t be so bad, determined to make this freak die a bloody death with intestines scattered all around!
Such were Wei Tianyang’s thoughts, but Yaha just said solemnly, "We have to go to Wuliang City. You’ll be my bodyguard."
Feeling reassured, he then followed Yaha downstairs.
On the way, they encountered Kacha, who was helping with the fountain’s drainage. Seeing Yaha and Wei Tianyang so close, he too smiled.
Wei Tianyang and Yaha arrived at the underground parking, where a driver had been waiting for a long time. This time, they switched to an old orange muscle car.
The vehicle sported silver outlines, and its body’s orange paint looked like an underripe tomato with patches of green. It did not appear old, but rather lent the car a special charm.
They got into the car, where an altered submachine gun lay on the back seat, futuristic-looking, clearly a product of the 22nd century.
Yaha handed the gun to Wei Tianyang, saying, "This is a CAR-9 submachine gun. The pilots of Ying PMC are equipped with this weapon. Keep it under your jacket."
He took the gun, which was much lighter than he had expected. This gun had an extended barrel, a lengthened magazine, a folding stock, and a front handle, which when folded, was the size of a 32-open book, and when unfolded, resembled a short-barreled assault rifle.
The folding stock and the front of the barrel had a copper ring, equipped with a dark green strap that could be worn around the body. Wei Tianyang loosened the strap, took off his jacket and hung the weapon, tightened the strap, and then put his jacket back on. As long as he zipped up the jacket, outsiders would have no idea he was carrying a fully automatic weapon on his person.
This was too troublesome... not as convenient as the AK47 hidden in his right arm.
As the driver started the engine, they set off. Yaha was silent during the drive, and Wei Tianyang could tell he was trying to stabilize his emotions. He stared out the window, silent, as if mentally preparing for something.
Although it was said to be a long journey, it wasn’t actually very far. More than ten kilometers might seem long, but considering Wuliang City was right next to Kongse, and the roads were clear and not a war zone, apart from being stopped a few times for questioning by conservative soldiers, they arrived at their destination in just over 40 minutes.
The radio was playing news about an unknown armed force that had surprisingly beaten Qiayang City, and now was advancing towards Six-faced God Mountain in the Lijiang Region. They were fighting on two fronts against two factions.
Wei Tianyang knew that was Li Fei’s force.
He had no idea how she managed it, perhaps the connections behind her were even stronger than Yaha’s...
As the car drove into Wuliang City,
Wuliang City was starkly different from Kongse. Although slightly smaller, it was filled with skyscrapers and well-ordered streets. Wei Tianyang suspected that most of the country’s skyscrapers were probably built in the capital and Wuliang City.
In the sky, a silver passenger plane flew past, slowly descending towards the city’s southern side.
The car stopped in front of a shiny silver building. Wei Tianyang recognized the characters at the top of the building, "Xidelian Hotel."
He felt encouraged that he was recognizing more characters.
Yaha opened the car door and did the same, but he pressed Wei Tianyang’s shoulder.
"Stay here, just stay here," he said.
Wei Tianyang replied, "I stay below? If something happens to you inside, I can’t..."
"Don’t worry, Ishmael... I know you’re down below, and that’s enough for me," he said.
Wei Tianyang watched Yaha leave the car, walking alone into the maw of the silver giant, like a lamb offering itself to some god, feeling a foreboding sense but unable to pinpoint what it was.
Yaha went inside, and the driver drove the car to the parking area, then took out a small cigarette box from his pocket, offering it to Wei Tianyang.
"I don’t smoke," Wei Tianyang shook his head, and pulled out the book "Tianren Wu Shuai" from his pocket.
"I wonder how that girl is doing," the driver murmured as he lit his cigarette.
"Still alive?" Wei Tianyang said.
The driver got out of the car and leaned against the door, lighting up a cigarette, while Wei Tianyang struggled to read a novel.
In the elevator, Yaha took out a small card that had the room number on it.
The elevator was so narrow, it felt like a person’s mouth, the upper palate and tongue glued together, suffocating him in the middle.
The elevator moved too fast, and before Yaha was mentally prepared, he had arrived. In front of him was a dark and cramped corridor, illuminated only by the dim orange light of the floor lamps, providing an appropriately ambiguous light source.
Step by step, he walked, unconsciously hugging his arms, until he finally arrived at the door of the room.
He paused in front of the door, made his final mental preparations, and then reached out to knock.
His knuckles had not yet touched the door when it opened.
The room was as dimly lit as the corridor, and in front of the door stood Moby Dick’s towering figure, like a giant whale, the bright red tie on his chest resembling the whale’s tongue.
"Come in, Yaha, I’ve been waiting for you," Moby Dick said with a smile.
Without asking, he hooked his arm around Yaha’s waist and pulled him into his embrace, then closed the room door.
Yaha saw, in the shadowy corner of the room, a wooden table with bizarre little tools laid out on it.
After Moby Dick led him in, he pushed him onto the mat on the left side of the room, and Yaha’s face nearly hit the handcuffs dangling from the ceiling.
"Take off your disguise, Yaha, let me see the real you," Moby Dick said.
Yaha clenched his fists, remaining silent, watching the man in the darkness.
"I know what you want; Red Pharmaceutical has the capability to give you what you desire, Yaha. We can help you seal that triangular opening, but before that—you have to be my little bitch," Moby Dick said with a smile.
"I hope you won’t go back on your word..." Yaha said softly.
He slowly began to unbutton his overcoat.
"I never lie. Come on, Yaha, don’t you also have that strange syndrome? Your ’Black Medicine’ syndrome, I know it like the back of my hand. I can help you, I can... together, we can explore your limits~"
Moby Dick slid the overcoat off Yaha and then handcuffed his hands.
"Very beautiful, you look so beautiful, Yaha, now... let me see what you are capable of~ Yaha~" Moby Dick said with a grin.
...
Wei Tianyang was sitting in the car, and at that moment, four men in suits approached from outside.
Instinctively, the driver reached inside his coat and unfastened his holster, but the four men in suits made a stopping gesture.
Their hands had already touched the gun handles inside their suits; knowing he was a step behind, the driver sighed and gave up resisting.
Wei Tianyang also noticed the commotion. He did not reach for his gun but instead directly opened the car door and got out, staring at the bodyguards in front of him.
"Hold on, hold on... Young man, we just want to talk to you."
Wei Tianyang was about to make a move when an old foreigner with white hair approached from the rear of the car; he looked very old, perhaps over 60, maybe even 70?
He was dressed in a suit, wearing a blue tie and shiny leather shoes, with more wrinkles on his face than on Wei Tianyang’s jacket.
"You’re Wei Tianyang, right?" the old man said.
He spoke in Yaha’s language, although not very fluently, but Wei Tianyang understood.
There isn’t a big grammatical difference between Chicken Snake language and Yaha language; if anything, Chicken Snake language is merely a dialect of Yaha language, much like Cantonese.
Wei Tianyang nodded, "I don’t know you."
The old man was amiable but spoke very sternly, "That’s the problem, we have no ties with your organization. But you have done something that harms our interests."
"What are you talking about?" Wei Tianyang said.
"The issue at He Mountain, you haven’t forgotten so soon, have you?" the old man said with a smile.
"That was something a few friends and I agreed to do," Wei Tianyang said.
"A friend of an enemy is also an enemy, Wei, have you really decided to stand against us?" the old man asked.
"Who are you?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"You don’t need to know who we are, you just need to understand that we will determine the outcome of this civil war, and you have introduced uncertainty to this result," the old man said.
"Are you threatening me?" Wei Tianyang said with a laugh.
"Wei, you are young. We empathize with the tragedies you’ve faced, and we also have ways to cure you, but you need to... compensate us for the losses you’ve caused. Before taking your next action, I’m even willing to talk to you..." the old man said.
"Eat shit. If you don’t leave now, I’ll cut you up in the street," Wei Tianyang threatened.
The driver glanced sideways.
The old man scoffed, looked at the four bodyguards, and said, "He has made his choice."
Then, he left with his people.
After they had gone, the driver said, "They might be... people from the Sethiyan Federation."
