I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 546 - 544: Encounter

Chapter 546: Chapter 544: Encounter

Leng Kai and Wang Ye followed Lin Yan, moving towards the coordinates on a very quiet night street. Wang Ye, worried that enemy snipers might target them, left the main road and dove into a nearby alley.

Due to the tightly spaced mud houses, the three could only sidle through the gaps. Leng Kai occasionally looked up, recalling his undercover mission before retirement—the team had been eliminated by a surprise attack from above.

Emerging from the mouth of the alley, they saw several military trucks parked alongside the road, with about a dozen government soldiers dead on the ground, the trucks’ sideboards covered in blood.

Leng Kai looked around for a while and then circled behind the trucks to check, while Wang Ye asked Lin Yan to crouch down and keep watch.

After a while, Leng Kai came around the other side of the trucks and said, "They weren’t killed by a person, there are no bullet holes."

Wang Ye looked at Lin Yan and asked, "The Heavenly Falling Object we are looking for is alive, right? What does it approximately look like? What are its abilities?"

"I can’t reveal too much, but I can tell you it’s huge, very huge, and it’s unlikely that these people were killed by it," Lin Yan said.

"It’s huge... How huge? As huge as Him?" Wang Ye asked.

"I haven’t done a comparison, and the observational data isn’t very precise... but indeed, it’s pretty massive, roughly speaking," Lin Yan said.

Leng Kai turned around, surprised, and exclaimed, "Damn, why didn’t you tell us sooner? We’re supposed to approach a creature of that size on foot?"

Lin Yan quickly said, "This is classified, we can’t just reveal it."

"We need to reassess the mission’s risk level. Cancel any close approach, observe only from at least 5 kilometers away," Woods suggested.

Leng Kai thought for a moment and then nodded.

"No! No! We must make contact!" Lin Yan insisted.

"That’s impossible. A creature of that size could demolish several buildings with just a wave of its hand. Moreover, we don’t even know its abilities yet. What’s wrong with your foundation? Sending only a researcher and still insisting on making contact?" Leng Kai exclaimed.

Lin Yan turned away, hesitated for a moment, and then compromised, "In our internal code, that object is called the White King. Its ability is to control time."

Wang Ye and Leng Kai looked at each other, stunned.

"What?" Leng Kai asked.

"What, what?" Lin Yan retorted.

"Its ability is to control time?" Wang Ye also asked.

"The foundation first observed it in Jupiter’s orbit... it made Jupiter stop spinning," Lin Yan said.

"Made Jupiter stop spinning... you better not be bluffing me," Leng Kai was incredulous.

"That observation was 3 years ago. Later, we discovered it at the Lagrange Point L2," Lin Yan added.

"How long have you been monitoring it?" Wang Ye asked.

"I wasn’t involved in this project from the start, I don’t know. All I know is it arrived on Earth 2 years ago and has even made contact with humans. The foundation assessed that it showed no hostile behavior, which is why they decided to send me to make contact," Lin Yan explained.

Seeing that they still seemed unconvinced, she continued, "It hasn’t caused any major destruction since arriving on Earth. We believe it has a willingness to communicate. Communicating with extraterrestrial life is a very important matter."

Wang Ye glanced at Leng Kai. Both were just soldiers who hardly understood these matters; they knew only that their mission had suddenly become much more dangerous.

"We can’t ensure your complete safety. The council should have sent a whole army," Leng Kai said.

"Sending an army would be useless. The foundation probably also doesn’t want too many people involved," Wang Ye shook his head.

Lin Yan was silent, observing the reactions of the two.

Leng Kai stepped forward and asked, "If that thing can control time, how do we even make contact with it? It might be gone in the time it takes us to speak."

"It might have already killed us," Wang Ye added.

"It’s very important—it cannot fall into the wrong hands. Think about it, if he manages to control time, this world will be turned upside down! Your council and our foundation are cooperating based on this, but not just with him—we also have to guard against other organizations. Do you think capable governments around the world, like the Sethiyan Federation, Yin Country, Western Alliance... don’t want this kind of power? Whoever gets it will trigger an unstoppable world war," Lin Yan said.

Leng Kai nodded and said, "He’s right. If this thing falls into the hands of United Pharmaceuticals of the Sethiyan Federation, in a short while, a large number of special forces with the ability to manipulate time will appear."

"This is what we’re worried about. We need to make contact with it first, establish a connection, and convey our concerns to it, letting it understand the various dangers on this planet," Lin Yan said.

"You make it sound like you’re pure as the driven snow. Once it contacts you, can you guarantee you won’t misuse it?" Wang Ye said.

Lin Yan was about to speak when he saw a black woman ahead shouting as she ran into the street.

She was yelling in the local dialect, and with their limited vocabulary in emergency situations, they couldn’t understand.

The next second, a black tentacle lashed out from an alley, wrapped around the woman, and dragged her in instantly, leaving only her heart-wrenching scream behind.

Wang Ye and Leng Kai were startled and took a step back. Just a few seconds later, the woman’s body was thrown out, landing on the ground with a thud, her head nowhere to be seen.

Then, strange roars came from the alley. Wang Ye quickly turned around, only to see a silhouette standing on top of a damaged bus.

Wang Ye pulled the trigger and fired. The figure was hit but did not fall. He screamed, jumping onto the roof of another vehicle.

The submachine gun fired bullets rapidly, and he emptied a magazine in an instant, yet the figure showed no reaction and lunged at them.

Leng Kai also opened fire. Several figures surged out of the alley, moving like zombies, running toward them.

"They’ve been drugged," Lin Yan said.

"It would be weird if they hadn’t!" Leng Kai shouted.

Wang Ye didn’t speak; instead, he grabbed Lin Yan and ran towards the other end of the street, continually scanning the surroundings for a place to take cover.

The previously quiet urban district suddenly filled with inhuman roars.

As they shot, they retreated. Leng Kai aimed multiple shots at the head of a black figure nearing them and blew his head apart to stop him.

These people still maintained the shape of humans, but their facial muscles had dissolved, and their arms and upper bodies showed varying degrees of mutation, growing black muscular structures.

"What kind of Black Medicine is this?! It doesn’t look like a superpower; it’s more like a mutation!" Wang Ye said.

"Maybe it’s an incomplete product. Look at them, they don’t look like soldiers," Leng Kai said.

Once Black Medicine leaked into the black market, small countries couldn’t afford it, but where there was demand, there would naturally be cheaper products available.

They found a factory and broke in, locking the iron door securely. Leng Kai turned on the lights on the second floor of the workshop and then looked for other exits.

Lin Yan, having run all the way, was exhausted and somewhat delirious. Wang Ye stayed by her side since one of his main tasks was to ensure her safety.

Something outside was hitting the door fiercely. Wang Ye aimed his gun at the door, ready to stay alert at all times.

Suddenly, there was the sound of flesh being cut from outside, followed by fierce thumping. The monsters outside howled, but their cries slowly turned into wailing, then the sound of hurried footsteps running away.

All became quiet outside. Someone knocked on the iron door.

"Don’t open the door," Leng Kai called from the second floor.

Wang Ye glanced at the shadow under the door, then slid the bolt open. There was no movement outside, so he held his gun in one hand and gently pried open a crack in the door.

"What are you doing?" Leng Kai sighed and slowly came downstairs, his gun aimed at the door.

Wang Ye opened a crack in the door and leaned sideways to look outside. Suddenly, the whole door groaned and, with a loud clang, came off its hinges and was thrown aside.

Wang Ye instinctively reached for the trigger, but then he saw the face of the man in front of the door and gasped in shock.

Leng Kai, still not understanding what was happening, stomped down the stairs, found a position, and prepared to shoot.

"Put down the gun," the man in front of the door said.

Wei Tianyang stood in the doorway, dressed in a deep blue suit that clashed with the surroundings, his eyes burning like fire.
