Chapter 51: Chapter 50: The Warrior and His Retinue

a.m.

Wei Tianyang and over a hundred guerrillas returned to the Pei Guode Hotel.

From a distance, the candlelight still glowed in Yaha’s room. A black silhouette stood before the window, amber eyes meeting crimson pupils, and then, it left the window.

When he reached the 7th floor, the door to room 707 was ajar.

Wei Tianyang pushed the door and entered; the carpet under his feet had been replaced, the sofa cover had been removed and was now leaning against the wall.

He looked up to see the mice hanging from the ceiling, sleeping soundly in their metal cages.

Aren’t mice supposed to be nocturnal?

Small candles were placed in the corner of the table, burned down to the thinness of a bottle cap, with white wax hardened into teardrops along the edge of the table.

Yaha leaned in the chair, sound asleep, his hands resting on the chair’s arms, his eyes squinting, his neck twisted to one side, revealing much of his neck and collarbone from under his robe, his cheeks slightly flushed. Something seemed to bulge on his chest, his white hair falling to the floor along the legs of the chair, his chest rising and falling gently with his breath.

By the flickering candlelight, Yaha looked like an invitingly vulnerable woman fast asleep.

Wei Tianyang with a thud placed the bomb-carrying briefcase on the table.

"Uh..." Yaha jerked his head up, rubbed his eyes, looking haggard.

"You were still awake just now," Wei Tianyang said.

"When troubles arise, sleep through it," laughed Yaha, stretching languorously, the lines of his collarbone and neck changing with the stretch of his arms.

"Tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., no... Today at 1 p.m., Tiantai Pharmaceutical will have a convoy waiting at a pig farm in the suburbs to transport refugees," Wei Tianyang said.

"I know where they are, I always knew. Since the war started, they’ve been buying refugees, first holding them in factories, then transferring them to shelters. I’m going to use this bomb to blow up that factory," Yaha said, caressing the briefcase and slowly standing up.

His hands rested on the case, bending over with part of his chest exposed, white hair hanging down, suggesting and yet concealing.

Wei Tianyang couldn’t help but glance at Yaha’s chest, but by then, Yaha had already opened the briefcase, standing upright.

Once the case was opened, it hissed, releasing the sound of an air lock, and white cold fog spilled out from the cracks of the flipped lid of the briefcase. Yaha pulled back the folded lid, and amidst the swirling mist, the bomb revealed its true form.

It was silver, the size of a watermelon, narrowing from the center toward both ends, with red rings at both the head and tail, its design plain and unadorned.

Inside the briefcase, there was an anti-roll frame structure that firmly secured the bomb in place. Also, there was a temperature control device.

"Is it really strong enough to level He Mountain?" Wei Tianyang was skeptical.

"Of course not, they’re bluffing, but this little thing blowing up our hotel to ruins isn’t out of the question," Yaha laughed.

"It’s also enough to turn that factory into ruins," Wei Tianyang nodded.

"Starbucks and Kacha will go with you," Yaha said.

"I can go alone," Wei Tianyang shook his head.

"Starbucks can temporarily raise the melting point of gunpowder in his range to 40,000 degrees. Essentially non-ignitable, all firearms will fail. Kacha can freeze the people he sees for three seconds. They’ll be a big help to you," Yaha insisted.

Seeing that Wei Tianyang didn’t reply, Yaha added, "Besides, you still don’t know how to use this thing..." he pointed at the bomb, "Kacha knows."

Wei Tianyang sighed and nodded.

"Also... because of your previous immature actions, we’ve drawn the attention of the Superpower Special Department," Yaha continued.

The Superpower Special Department?

"A genuine superpower special forces team from Chicken Snake Country has recently entered the country. My connections can protect this hotel, but once you leave that man-made forest... they will attack, the enemy is lurking in the shadows..." Yaha said, circling the table, his bare feet creaking on the wooden floor.

He walked to a low cabinet and picked up a mug.

The mice in the cage woke up, starting to squeak.

"Ishmael... if you run into that special forces team, don’t engage them, run back here... I can keep you safe," Yaha said softly, looking at Wei Tianyang.

"I’m not planning to be a martyr. If I can’t beat them, I’ll make sure to run back," Wei Tianyang smiled.

"Don’t even try... We are incomplete products... we are... unsealed inverted triangles..." Yaha’s voice trembled slightly.

Wei Tianyang raised his left wrist, showing Yaha the scrubbed-off mark, the wound crusted over with brownish-red scabs.

"That mark is imprinted in your brain, Yaha. I thought you had gotten rid of it long ago."

Having said that, Wei Tianyang turned and left.

The camp that had been slaughtered...

a.m., the sky was turning white, six gray SUVs drove into the camp, and more than ten bodyguards with Man O’ War heavy automatic rifles got out of the vehicles.

A bald bodyguard in a black suit stepped out; he was nearly two meters tall, wearing sunglasses, dark-skinned, with a tuft of white stubble on his chin.

The bald man gestured, and the bodyguards went to search around the camp in formation, leaving six guards clustered around the middle SUV of the convoy.

The bald man walked toward the middle SUV. It sat still, rocking back and forth, with sounds of intimacy coming from inside.

He knocked on the door.

After a moment, the vehicle stopped rocking, and after another while, the door opened and out climbed a tall blond man.

"They’re all dead," said the bald man.

"Come on~give me more~"

From the dark back seat floated a hoarse, low female voice.

Moby Dick turned his head and said, "Shut up, you little bitch. Wait until I finish my task... then I’ll... punish you."

He turned back, looking around the camp, then pinched his nose, saying, "It stinks to hell."

"The bodies have all been piled there." The bald bodyguard pointed toward the rear of the white house.

"Chicken Snake Country isn’t short on bodies, dear Watson. What do you think, is there anything we want in this camp?" Moby Dick smiled.

At that moment, Watson’s walkie-talkie crackled with a transmission: "We find something... in White House!"

"Do they also have a White House here?" Moby Dick chuckled.

Watson was silent and followed Moby Dick to the command post atop the muddy slope.

The bodyguards manned the check posts, with surveillance covering the door and every corner of the room. Watson walked inside and first noticed the stack of documents on the table.

He picked up a few pages and glanced through them, chuckling, "The people from Tiantai are still so careless."

"What are these?" Watson asked.

"They’ve got a list of refugees that the conservative government of Chicken Snake Country had agreed to keep secret. If this gets to the International Military Court, Tiantai’s going to be busy for a while," Moby Dick explained.

Watson quickly ordered his subordinates to secure the documents.

Meanwhile, Moby Dick noticed the stains of blood on the wall. He stepped forward for a closer inspection, his mind reconstructing the possible scenario that had led to the bloodstains.

If someone had poured a bucket of blood against the wall, it wouldn’t appear as specks, and the quantity of blood wasn’t sufficient anyway, yet the floor was relatively clean.

The only possibility was that someone with severe injuries had sprayed a mouthful towards the wall...

As he pondered this, two more bodyguards rushed into the room.

"The armory in the camp has been opened, but no guns, ammunition, mortars, or shells are missing," one of the bodyguards reported.

"Oh? That’s good. I believe the Superpower Special Forces are behind this—they wouldn’t need those things anyway."

"Have the wounds on the bodies in the camp been checked?" Watson inquired.

"No signs of a gun battle. With my ten years of SAS experience, I’d say the folks here were taken out stealthily," the bodyguard replied.

"So many people... all taken out? And no one noticed?" Watson frowned.

Moby Dick was unfazed, clapping his hands and saying, "A master from Chicken Snake Country has arrived. The Superpower Special Forces can pull this off, but I can’t think offhand which of the Heavenly Falling Objects would have the ability to become invisible."

"There’s nothing else of value here," the bodyguard said.

"That’s enough, this stack of documents is sufficient evidence. Tiantai won’t be able to set foot in Chicken Snake Country again. From now on, this will be Red Pharmaceutical’s turf," Moby Dick said with a smile.

"What about the people behind Tiantai?" Watson reminded.

"It doesn’t matter. I still have a small force of external support here... Once we’ve eradicated Tiantai’s presence, we’ll initiate legal proceedings. If the umbrella protecting them is smart enough, they’ll throw Tiantai under the bus. And then... that East Continent wench will come crawling into my bed willingly..." Moby Dick, with his hands in his pockets, stared at the bloodstains on the wall, a lecherous smile creeping onto his face.

A sleepless night.

Wei Tianyang tossed and turned, unable to sleep. As he lay in bed, he was still savoring the scene in the camp where he was surrounded by refugees.

Their sincere gazes provided him strength.

It was a profound power that seemed to burst forth from the very depths of his heart, no, from humanity itself. He was at a loss for words to describe this force.

This magnificent power filled him, and after tossing and turning until dawn, he finally arrived at an answer.

It was justice.

After breakfast, Wei Tianyang shouldered a canvas backpack with the silver gadget tucked inside and, under Yaha’s arrangements, rode in a blue sedan with Kacha and Starbucks into the city.

They settled in the same coffee shop where Starbucks had bought coffee beans last time. The ghosts who were previously playing cards inside were gone, replaced by refugees from Kongse.

They all sat together, watching the news.

"The daughter of the rebel, Li Fei, has escaped from He Mountain mansion, her whereabouts unknown. We have reason to believe that a special forces group of extremists is responsible... Currently... we are..."

Wei Tianyang also looked up at the news. Li Fei truly had connections, and had already organized a new force, initiating her counterattack in her own way.

"Sync watches," Kacha said.

He, like Wei Tianyang, also wore a white-faced Casio digital watch. Starbucks wore a smartwatch, more advanced than theirs, even capable of tracking steps.

"9 a.m.," Starbucks said.

"This operation is centered on you. There are only two objectives: plant the bomb and rescue the hostages," Kacha said, looking at Wei Tianyang.

He nodded, glancing at his own watch, damn... was it broken?

The face of the watch had cracked, leaving the screen pitch black.

He had done nothing out of the ordinary last night... how could it...

To avoid embarrassment, Wei Tianyang pulled back his left hand and said, "The time’s correct."

"Stay safe. We’re not the types to engage in direct combat, so... retreat immediately if it gets dangerous, okay? Don’t shoot unless it’s absolutely necessary," Starbucks reiterated.

They both nodded.

At that moment, a person at the next table stood up and said to everyone in the coffee shop, "Alright, have you all made up your minds?"

The three of them were taken aback, unsure of what was going on.

The people in the coffee shop all stood up.

"Yes! We’ve decided! Let’s do it!"

"I have a friend who went already, they’re telling the truth!"

"What are we waiting for! Let’s go!"

They seemed to have made a decision, a resolute smile on their faces.

"Hold on... mate, what are you... talking about?" Kacha grabbed someone, asking.

"Haven’t you heard?" the person replied with a mysterious smile.

"What...?" Kacha was puzzled.

"The New Liberation Front is recruiting. Not to fight for the extremists or the conservatives but to fight for the peace of our motherland. The one leading them is that same Li Fei, although the news won’t acknowledge it," the person explained.

Li Fei...

Although Wei Tianyang remained silent, his heart was uplifted. She had done it—ignited the flame of revolution!

"We’re going to follow her! Take back our motherland!"
