Chapter 491: Chapter 489: Contact
The Pei Guode Hotel’s nearby cafe.
Leng Kai and Wang Mingxue sat at an outdoor stall, aiming their sunglasses at the main entrance.
"Can you hear me clearly?" Price’s voice came through the earpiece.
Leng Kai spoke in a low voice, "Very clearly. You’ve received the image, haven’t you?"
"Also very clear, it would be nice if they kept the doors open more often," Price said.
"The weather is too hot here; I really don’t know how they can stand it," Wang Mingxue said.
"Maybe that’s why their skin turns so dark," Soap suddenly said.
"Focus on surveillance. A few days ago, the President of Etolia went straight to the hotel. They stayed for less than half an hour before leaving. With such a display, there’s no other possibility than meeting Wei Tianyang," Price said.
"We’re not here to surveil him," Leng Kai said.
"Keep a close watch on the main entrance. Whether he’s going in or out, we need to catch him immediately," Price said.
"Why don’t we contact Wei Tianyang directly? Maybe just talking to him would resolve everything?" Wang Mingxue said.
"I think he’s not very willing to communicate with us; our last meeting didn’t go so well," Price said.
"Some on the council are discussing making contact with him. Our mission is surveillance. Leave other matters to Pence and his team," Leng Kai said.
Wang Mingxue tapped her earpiece and picked up the chocolate cake from the table, ready to take a bite. On closer inspection, she noticed that a large chunk of the cake was already gone.
She was startled; then, something furry rubbed against her leg. Turning her head, she saw a black goat standing to one side, smacking its lips.
"My cake... my damn newly-bought cake?!" Wang Mingxue’s blood pressure soared.
Meanwhile, on Leng Kai’s side stood a white-haired woman, bending over, scrutinizing Leng Kai with a creepy smile on her face, her skin pale as a vampire’s.
"Don’t move! That goat! It’s his!" Price’s voice came through the earpiece.
Leng Kai rested his hand on the gun holster under his jacket and looked at Wang Mingxue.
"He’s spotted us," Leng Kai said.
"Don’t make any drastic moves," Price said anxiously.
At that moment, Soap and Ghost, fully armed, had shifted to the lobby, their guns pointed at the main entrance. Gates leaned by the window, watching the activity below with Price.
The main gate of Pei Guode swung open, and six black-suited men approached Leng Kai and Wang Mingxue.
"Do you think he would kill us?" Wang Mingxue asked.
"Don’t guess wildly; he’s saved me before," Leng Kai said.
"You’d better leave your weapons behind. Don’t provoke him," Price cautioned.
The two remained seated, watching as the six black-suited men walked up to their table.
The leader, likely standing at 1.9 meters tall, had a stern expression as he said to them, "Stand up."
Leng Kai and Wang Mingxue slowly stood up.
Two of the men came forward to frisk them, removing their sunglasses, earpieces, guns, and daggers. Then, they handcuffed their hands behind their backs.
"Come inside with me, but remember, do not speak without my permission," the man said.
"Is it Wei Tianyang who wants to see us?" Leng Kai asked.
The black man flew into a rage and slapped him across the face.
Leng Kai grunted, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
"Fuck you! Nigger!" Wang Mingxue cursed.
Another black man grabbed her chin and violently struck her mouth several times; Wang Mingxue’s eyes reddened as she lowered her head and spat out a mouthful of blood, with two teeth clattering to the ground.
The street was devoid of onlookers; whether it was the pedestrians or those inside the stores, they all acted as if they had seen nothing. Even those sitting near them outside the café consciously made room.
Leng Kai said, "Stop! We’ll listen to you."
At the same time, he looked at Wang Mingxue and shook his head.
The black man turned and walked towards the hotel, and the five of them shoved them forward.
The group of eight entered the hotel, where a refreshing chill enveloped them, causing Leng Kai’s skin to break out in goosebumps. Guests were lounging at the bar to one side of the hotel lobby, and the waitstaff seemed very proud; at the center of the hall stood a dark golden statue, though it was unclear if it was made of gold or bronze.
They walked all the way to the secluded back elevator, which had a sign: Staff Only.
The black man took out a magnetic card, swiped it, and the elevator doors opened dutifully; the eight of them entered the elevator in silence.
Blood continued to seep from Wang Mingxue’s lips down to her chin, her cheek swelling somewhat as blood droplets soaked the dark blue carpet beneath her feet.
When the elevator reached the fourth sub-level, the black man led them out. Leng Kai glanced at Wang Mingxue, inquiring about her condition with his eyes.
Wang Mingxue shook her head, indicating she was fine.
Shortly after, they were locked in a room resembling a cold storage unit, about forty square meters in size. The corridor outside the door was cramped, apparently for storing various tools.
After the black man left, both of them finally let out a sigh of relief.
"Has the bleeding stopped?" Leng Kai asked.
"Stop fussing, it’s nothing, damn bastard... Wei Tianyang doesn’t treat us like colleagues," Wang Mingxue swore.
"Maybe he doesn’t even recognize us, he’s always absent from the council meetings," Leng Kai said.
"Just because he saved you once doesn’t mean he remembers you! Right now, he sees us as a threat, you’d better not have any illusions about him!" Wang Mingxue warned.
"If he comes to see us later, you’d better keep quiet and leave it to me," Leng Kai said.
"Wei Tianyang had better come clean with us face-to-face! I want to know where the hell he stands!" Wang Mingxue said angrily.
Leng Kai knew her temperament; she had lost two teeth and was seething. He too wanted to give that black man a piece of his mind, but now, they were on Wei Tianyang’s turf, up against an insurmountable opponent—it was not wise to lose their temper.
"Price is outside; all we need to do is find out where he stands. I don’t think he’s unwilling to talk; if he wanted to kill us, he would’ve done it out there," Leng Kai said.
"In broad daylight? At the entrance of his own hotel?" Wang Mingxue asked.
"Didn’t you see everyone else’s reaction?" Leng Kai replied.
"What if he doesn’t answer?" Wang Mingxue asked.
"Doesn’t matter. Whatever he says is fine, at least we have a chance to make contact with him. The listening device inside you is still working, right?" Leng Kai asked.
"I swallowed it when they brought us in; it should be working now. Price should be able to hear us," Wang Mingxue nodded.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Wang Mingxue suddenly screamed, her body went limp, and as she began to collapse, someone from behind gripped her throat and hoisted her into midair.
Leng Kai was startled but then saw a man with a right arm blackened as if burnt, suddenly appear behind them. The man held the now unconscious Wang Mingxue with his left hand, and his right hand clutched a still-warm heart.
