I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 485 - 483: New Mission
Chapter 485: Chapter 483: New Mission
Wei Tianyang did not retort this time.
Without the guidance of a god, humanity would head towards self-destruction.
The cruelty of the human world arises from human flaws.
"Maybe you’re right," Wei Tianyang said.
"You’ve finally seen the light," Baphomet seemed in a good mood.
He left Helena Mina’s room with Baphomet and returned to his own.
"But is there a simpler, faster way to transform them into familiars? Shaking hands one by one is just too much trouble. How did you do it?" Wei Tianyang asked.
After his fall, Baphomet had corrupted an entire city in Libitelli, certainly not by shaking hands.
"My abilities are somewhat different from yours, so there’s no use telling you. I can read the stuff in your mind, which means I can infiltrate everyone’s consciousness. Human consciousness is at its weakest at night. Especially because humans dream," Baphomet said.
"Dreaming?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"I made the entire city dream the same dream. In that dreamscape, they met their king, and then I absorbed all their consciousnesses, and their bodies became mine to command," Baphomet said.
"I want to preserve their consciousnesses, just like now. I don’t need zombies; I want living, obedient humans," Wei Tianyang said.
"Then you have to discover your own powers. These abilities are innate, just as humans are born knowing how to mate—an animal’s instinct," Baphomet said.
"But I don’t seem to have that instinct," Wei Tianyang said.
"That’s the problem—you’ve not yet decided what you really are," Baphomet said.
Wei Tianyang understood his meaning.
Was he still human?
The one who escaped from the basement morgue in 2106, was it the resurrected Wei Tianyang, or an "it" with Wei Tianyang’s memories?
"If you can’t make a decision, you’ll never become a god," Baphomet said.
"God is a fictional concept," Wei Tianyang said.
"When you become god, it won’t be fictional anymore," Baphomet said.
...
In the Sethiyan Federation, Georgetown, Leng Kai’s apartment.
Dawn was just breaking, and the projected clock on the wall showed a greenish 5:30 am.
He reached out and felt the space beside him; Wang Mingxue was gone, leaving only a warm indentation.
Leng Kai took a deep breath, rubbed his eyes, and got out of bed. Topless, wearing only boxer briefs, his chest and back still bore the scratch marks from Wang Mingxue’s grasps of the previous night.
On the table was a freshly made sandwich and a cup of coffee beside it.
He walked over to the table, touched the coffee cup—it was still warm—picked up the sandwich and took a bite, then, holding the coffee cup, stepped outside the bedroom.
In the living room, Wang Mingxue was warming up on the treadmill. Leng Kai leaned against the door, silently watching.
"Morning," Wang Mingxue said.
"Do you always get up this early?" Leng Kai asked.
"This is my normal routine. Funny you’ve been a soldier for so many years," Wang Mingxue said with a smile.
Leng Kai also smiled, maintaining his silence.
"Let’s talk about something; you’re always so quiet," Wang Mingxue said.
"You’re running," Leng Kai replied.
"My mouth isn’t moving. Say something. We’re lovers now. Lovers should talk more, not act like it’s a one-night stand," Wang Mingxue said.
"The last mission..." Leng Kai began.
"Don’t bring that up; we’ve finally got a break. Let’s talk about something light, no missions or politics," Wang Mingxue said.
"Oh... okay. How about the recent movies?" Leng Kai said with a laugh.
"How about the whale hunting movie next week?" Wang Mingxue smiled. "It’s an adaptation of a classic where an old captain sets out to sea for vengeance against a whale. Wanna go see it?"
"Whale hunting? What’s so interesting about that? Besides..." Leng Kai said, "whales are almost extinct."
"The other two options are even more boring," Wang Mingxue said.
Leng Kai fell silent again. He didn’t watch movies or read books much. His mind was still replaying the last mission when Wei Tianyang had descended from the sky, taken the children away, and used some sort of superpower to suppress everyone.
"I mean... about the last mission..." Leng Kai said.
Wang Mingxue sighed, turned off the treadmill, and as she walked down, already drenched in sweat, she wiped her face with a towel and said, "You’re really not good at making conversation."
"We saw Wei Tianyang last time. Don’t you have any thoughts about that?" Leng Kai asked.
Wang Mingxue grabbed Leng Kai’s arm, kissed his lips and said, "Wei Tianyang isn’t important. I only care about you right now."
Leng Kai was silent for a while, looking into Wang Mingxue’s eyes, but then said, "I keep thinking that one day, we might have to confront him."
Wang Mingxue looked disappointed and walked into the bathroom.
"If that day comes, they won’t send us after him," her voice echoed from the bathroom.
"Not even the Trinity could be his match," Leng Kai said.
"Stop thinking about that. Later we’ll go out for a walk, maybe we can..." She was saying, but her voice was mostly drowned out by the shower, becoming a muffled prattle.
Leng Kai sighed. At that moment, his phone on the nightstand started ringing.
He turned and went to pick up the phone. The incoming call showed a disguised number; Leng Kai knew it was a call from the combat command center. He couldn’t help frowning.
"2206," an AI’s voice spoke.
That was the task force’s activation codeword.
"4218, 259," Leng Kai replied.
After verifying his identity and status, Commander Lu joined the call and said, "Leng Kai, there’s a new assignment for you."
"Received," Leng Kai replied.
"By the way, Wang Mingxue didn’t answer her phone. Do you know her status?" Commander Lu asked.
Leng Kai glanced at the bathroom outside the room and said, "I’ll get in touch with her..."
After hanging up, he walked over to the bathroom door, knocked and said, "We’ve been activated."
The door cracked open, and Wang Mingxue said, "What? I can’t hear you, come closer."
Leng Kai moved closer to the crack in the door, spotting Wang Mingxue’s bare body, mischievously smiling at him.
She grabbed Leng Kai, pulled him into the bathroom, and laughed, "Before we go, let’s take a shower~"
...
Wang Ye dropped the dumbbell; it was noon, and his squad had suffered a dozen losses after the last mission, so they were scheduled for a rotational rest.
But he clearly wasn’t used to these idle days. Besides, he didn’t have much to do in this unfamiliar country and wasn’t interested in tourism, so all he could do was stay in the barracks and lift weights.
Wei Tianyang had appeared in the last mission, but his actions had not left a good impression on him.
Yet, that overwhelming power made him feel his own weakness. His muscles, bulging and solid, were like cotton candy in front of Wei Tianyang.
He hadn’t even done anything, and he could pin him to the ground unable to rise.
Is this what superpower soldiers are?
Or is it just what Wei Tianyang is capable of?
Lost in thought, Da Gu suddenly came running to the dormitory door. He and Schweinsteiger had been out messing around since early morning, and for some reason, he was now here.
"What’s up?" Wang Ye asked, noticing the seriousness on his face.
"There’s a new mission!" Da Gu exclaimed.
"Aren’t we supposed to be on rotational rest?" Wang Ye was confused.
"Not clear on that, but they called us back earlier than expected. I also saw that Price guy from last time! He’s on the base," Da Gu said.
