Chapter 469 - 467: Dead City

Chapter 469: Chapter 467: Dead City

Wang Ye took cover behind a tree, poked his gun out, and shot a few more dead people in the legs, but they still fired back while lying on the ground.

The number of dead people who had found their position was increasing, and the situation became very tense.

"Mika!" Wang Ye called out over the communications frequency.

At this moment, the signal was jammed for unknown reasons. Not only was the drone’s sky view affected, but communication was also cut off, and HUD was offline. Everyone’s headphones were filled with a woman’s harrowing scream.

Wang Ye quickly turned off his earpiece, and his teammate, swearing, unplugged his earpiece.

"There must be a Superpower Special Department around!!" his teammate said.

Wang Ye nodded, as it was quite obvious.

At that moment, the ground started to move beneath them, and they instinctively backed away.

Suddenly, the earth churned like waves, and arms made of mud emerged, pulling the dead into the ground along with the tumultuous trees.

Concrete roads also cracked open, and mud spurted from the fissures forming large hands that lunged at the dead men.

A jeep drove up to the building. Two soldiers exited to stand guard, and in the back seat, a silent, fully armed man sat with a rifle slung across him. The barrel of his rifle was stuffed with a dust plug, indicating it hadn’t been used.

The man got out of the vehicle, and the ground beneath him formed a platform, dragging him into the park, stopping near Wang Ye.

He jumped down and approached Wang Ye, saying, "Friendly forces."

Wang Ye nodded.

"I am Mud Man. There has been a superpower soldier here. Leave quickly, and let me handle it," the man said.

"We can handle the dead," Wang Ye responded.

The man looked displeased and said, "That is not your mission."

Wang Ye nodded, then he and his team headed back to the first floor of the building. The communication channel was still not restored, and the leader and the other teammates were unaware of the situation below.

He could only shout upwards, telling everyone to come down.

They counted the members of their team, four were injured, and Wang Ye along with two other medics began treating the injured while the leader contacted Mud Man.

minutes later, Mud Man left, chasing after the superpower special forces controlling the dead. Without a functioning combat system, they didn’t know their next step and therefore, a platoon of soldiers had to stay put for now.

Wang Ye cut the injured soldier’s clothes to check the wounds. The injured soldier was lucky, a bullet had grazed his armpit, leaving a 6-centimeter cut—considered a minor injury.

But another soldier was less fortunate; his calf was penetrated by an 8mm large-caliber rifle bullet, breaking the bone. This serious injury could not be treated here without advanced medical care; otherwise, he would be disabled for life.

The leader was trying to contact the command center using a hand-held radio, but the interference was longer than expected. He looked at the map again and called Wang Ye over.

Wang Ye’s squad didn’t belong to this platoon, but now, as the highest-ranking commander present, he was to follow the leader’s commands.

However, the leader hesitated as though his platoon hadn’t lost its fighting capability, it had used up too much ammunition defending the building, and with superpower soldiers appearing in this area, they had to leave.

The designated evacuation point on the paper map was 20 kilometers to the south, and another attack point was 12 kilometers to the north. The leader wanted to hear Wang Ye’s opinion.

"My squad still has the strength, no injuries, and enough ammunition. Supporting you is the first step in my mission chain; the next step is to go there," Wang Ye pointed to the attack point on the map.

"Logically, we need to ensure that the six spots on this road are cleared out. After the task force captures Johnny, they will retreat along this route," the leader nodded.

"I will lead my men forward," Wang Ye said.

"Then good luck to you," the leader said.

The drone flew down, and Mika folded it into his backpack. They regrouped and then, relying on the paper map for navigation, headed to their next mission target.

Leng Kai and Price along with others had penetrated deep into the enemy territory, the factory now in sight.

But upfront, it was pitch dark, looking nothing like a place where people were present.

Soap deployed the drone, and everyone concealed themselves behind the staircase, watching through a small window on the HUD.

From the aerial view, the factory courtyard was empty, and the buildings were dark; not only was there no one around, it didn’t even show signs of production—like it had been abandoned for a long time.

"There’s nothing," Soap said.

"Could the intelligence be wrong?" Wang Mingxue asked.

"Let’s check it out," Leng Kai said.

"This isn’t a good sign, I’ve been through this before, it’s just like a trap," Price said.

"We’re precisely the ones who deal with traps. If Johnny wants to play, we’ll play along," Ghost said.

The eight of them quickly approached the factory periphery, with the drone hovering overhead to provide them with a sky view.

The factory was not complex, a relatively small-scale facility consisting of three buildings forming an L-shaped area, the largest building had only one floor with three exits, two single-opening iron doors on the sides, and double iron doors at the front which were locked.

Johnny couldn’t possibly be hiding here.

After approaching the building, their goggles showed a huge heat source.

"There are people inside," Leng Kai said.

Soap leaned against the wall, ready to breach with Yuri, while Xiao Qiang and Wang Mingxue held stun grenades ready, others lined up behind Xiao Qiang.

"3, 2..." Soap counted down.

The next second, he cut the lock with bolt cutters, kicked the door sideways, Yuri also pushed the door open, and Xiao Qiang was just about to throw the stun grenade, but suddenly shouted, "Wait!!! Don’t throw!!"

Wang Mingxue was startled, the stun grenade had already slipped from her hand, Xiao Qiang blocked it, changing the flight direction of the grenade which landed at the doorway.

Leng Kai rushed forward and kicked it far away; everyone bent down covering their ears, and with a loud bang, the stun grenade exploded, causing ringing in everyone’s ears.

"What the hell is going on!!" Price cursed.

By this time, Soap had already charged in, holding his gun but froze in place.

Price walked in cursing and was lost for words.

Leng Kai patted Wang Mingxue, then entered the factory to see the dark workshop where thousands of people sat on the floor, their hands tied behind them, mouths gagged, and blindfolded with black cloth.

These people were old and young, men and women, clearly civilians.

"They are civilians!?" Xiao Qiang exclaimed.

Wang Mingxue rushed forward to start untying them.

"Hold on, don’t touch them yet!" Price stopped Wang Mingxue.

Leng Kai took out a flashlight, illuminating the wall beside him, revealing a message written in blood:

"God will punish the unfaithful."
