Chapter 461: Chapter 459: One Type of Attempt

Wei Tianyang placed his hand on the back of Helena Mina’s hand, consoling her, "Maybe I’ll find a way."

A flicker of hope passed through Helena Mina’s eyes as Wei Tianyang also sensed the argument that arose between reason and emotion in her heart.

No one does not crave immortality, yet no facts have proven that Wei Tianyang himself is in an immortal state.

But if he had truly, as Baphomet said, taken complete possession of "090," he might no longer be human.

He had once vehemently denied that he was not human, but after so many years, the behavior of human beings had made him waver.

Perhaps humanity is but a transitional state of the "human" species.

They are cruel yet tender, evil yet righteous, angry yet fearful, full of contradictions.

There are always those who want to make the world a better place, yet there are always those who kill these people, around and around it goes, history repeats itself, and this contradictory nature of humanity has never changed, as if evolution had come to a halt.

"There must be people in the world who are desperately researching life-extending technologies, if a product comes out, someone with your status would definitely be able to use it," Wei Tianyang said.

"You know, I’m not keen on injecting those strange substances into my veins... I didn’t mean anything else by that," Helena Mina interrupted herself, realizing the ambiguity of her words, and hastily stopped.

Wei Tianyang smiled and said, "It’s okay, Helen, I’ve let go a long time ago. I haven’t lost much... and it’s been too long, so long that I’ve forgotten what that feels like."

"I’m actually quite relieved that the children have been placed here by you; living in a high-end hotel is better than being crammed into a refugee camp or sleeping on the streets with their parents," Helena Mina said.

"I don’t want them to end up in the hands of pharmaceutical companies. If their parents can settle down, I’ll give the children back at that time, but now is definitely not the right time. Some of the children have already lost their parents, and I won’t hand them over," Wei Tianyang said.

"The group of children you took away last time... their parents have already..." Helena Mina hesitated.

Wei Tianyang glanced at the table, having already heard from her heart what she wanted to say.

"That wasn’t my doing," Wei Tianyang said.

"I know. There was a conflict between the border police and the refugees, and I watched the footage from the border; it was the refugees who started fighting amongst themselves first," Helena Mina said.

"It’s not my concern; the children are safe now, and I’ll take good care of them," Wei Tianyang said.

"The Council wants me to take some photos to bring back," Helena Mina said.

"I can’t agree to that; you know very well they don’t want to see the children," Wei Tianyang said.

Helena Mina nodded; these people wanted to use the photos to determine the environment that Wei Tianyang was in, and even she didn’t know what they would do with that information.

"You are the chairperson; you call the shots there," Wei Tianyang said.

He covered Helena’s hand with his, his eyes faintly glowing red.

Baphomet had told him there were two methods of transforming people into loyal followers.

One was to take complete possession of the other’s soul, turning them into a clone of oneself.

That’s what Lilith did.

The downside of this method was that these followers had no self-awareness and could only act according to the will of the host; effectively, one had to control multiple avatars, which was very taxing.

However, the benefits were clear; the actions of multiple followers were more controllable, and unused followers could be stored away to be used as spare bodies, for changing identity, or as personal toys for one’s amusement...

The other method was to not possess the other’s soul but instead plant a mark in their thoughts, which meant they retained their self but would support and agree with the host’s thoughts and beliefs without reservation.

Baphomet did not like this, because the environment it resided in was not as complex as Earth’s. On Earth, such a method was more practical, but the downside was also clear: the family members were still human bodies, without superpowers, without enhancements, and therefore naturally lacked combat strength and could not act as cohesively as the first type.

Wei Tianyang had never transformed anyone into his kin; he had been averse to it in the past. Yet over the past few years, he had been pondering it constantly.

However, there was a very annoying problem haunting him.

In moments of introspection, he had explored the hundreds of superpowers he absorbed in the Lingxian Sect and had been constantly distinguishing and using them. Naturally, he also explored his ability to transform others into his kin.

Although he had never used it, since it was an instinct of the Heavenly Falling Objects, he understood its effects internally once he found it.

But here lay the problem.

His ability to transform others into his kin came with some uncontrollable side effects...

Whether it was taking over someone’s body or implanting thought imprints in them, Wei Tianyang seemed to be like a wish-granting machine, capable of altering the person’s body according to his own desires.

The deepest desires of those chosen as kin would subtly transform their physical form.

What these deepest desires were, and what their final form would be, was beyond Wei Tianyang’s control.

He had consulted Baphomet about this, but even this proud black sheep admitted to never having witnessed such a scenario.

Baphomet’s kin turned into zombies simply because it obliterated human souls and then left the bodies too long, leading to physical hunger and decay.

Wei Tianyang was still unclear about the outcomes of his actions; he looked at Helena Mina, pensive.

"May I see the children? In my personal capacity," Helena Mina said with a smile.

Wei Tianyang nodded, and they both stood up. He subconsciously wanted to support her, but Helena chuckled and said, "I’m not yet so old that I can’t walk, Wei."

Once they were outside, Wei Tianyang took her to visit the children in each room.

Some were terrified, some were dull and expressionless, and some sat together, discussing something.

Wei Tianyang was aware of these situations, but he didn’t want to interfere too much; it was normal for the children to be scared, and in time, they would understand what they had received.

Helena Mina squatted down, embraced the children, and comforted them while Wei Tianyang stood aside, contemplating the matter of the kin.

His aversion to the subject had stemmed from knowing that doing so would mean he was gradually distancing himself from the realm of humanity.

Now, he was slowly recognizing the limitations of humans.

Helena Mina had once again become the Chairperson of the United Council. She seemed to very much identify with her position...

What would happen?

Wei Tianyang lightly placed his hand on her shoulder.

He did not steal her soul but preserved all her selfhood, only injecting two edicts into her.

Helena Mina, who was already supportive of him, now became a staunch defender of his ideology; this was the mark of thought.

The second edict was one of protection. He did not want her to repeat Steijie’s fate, so he transferred all the physical harm that she would endure onto himself, just as he had done for Yaha and Zhao Ling.

Now, the seed was sown.

What would happen in the future?
