Chapter 43: Chapter 42 Accidental Injury

It was like a secret signal.

Du Yan, upon hearing it, showed a look of comfort, while Li Bin burst into loud laughter.

"Where did you find her?" Du Yan asked.

"Where did you run off to?" Yaha asked.

Wei Tianyang scanned the lobby. In the darkness, the guerrillas’ eyes emitted a faint blue-green luminescence.

"He Mountain Prison Camp, there’s a small villa there," Wei Tianyang said.

Du Yan and Li Bin had stern faces, and Yaha’s expression also darkened.

"You shouldn’t have gone there. Our goal is revenge, but only against Tiantai Pharmaceutical. The civil war in Chicken Snake Country involves international politics, far more complicated than just a domestic struggle between two armed factions," Yaha said.

"We need help. Any kind of help," Wei Tianyang said.

Yaha shook his head and said, "We can take our revenge on our own. Besides, who could you possibly find to help you there? The conservative army?"

The guerrillas in the shadows chuckled, and at this point, Li Bin said, "You help us, and we’ll help you. Forget this perverted, white-haired freak. Ignite the fire of revolution, and burn our enemies, and yours, to ashes!"

"Ishmael, answer me, whom do you want to find for help?" Yaha pressed.

"Just say the word, and we’ll stab him to death. From the back, from the front, from above, from below, quickly or slowly—however you wish," Du Yan said.

"Answer me! Ishmael!" Yaha said.

"Speak up, and with your word, he’s dead," Li Bin said.

Footsteps... thud thud thud... The guerrillas were stomping on the floor in the darkness.

Damn, my head is going to explode.

Wei Tianyang’s breathing became rapid.

He looked around, the lobby darkened, roars swirling around him—a thick darkness enveloping him like a tide, too dark to see his own hand.

Only the murmur in his ears was harassing him.

"Speak up, say it, kill him!"

"Answer me! Ishmael!"

"Slowly, or swiftly?!"

"Kill them all... kill them all!"

Thud thud thud!!

"Shut up!! Shut up!!! Shut up!!!!" Wei Tianyang roared.

The surroundings fell silent.

The candlelight rekindled, brightening the area around. Du Yan and Li Bin, as well as the guerrillas, had all disappeared.

"Ishmael..."

Kacha called out to him carefully.

"What?" He was somewhat dazed, his hand was wet and sticky.

Yaha’s eyes were wide open, staring at him in horror.

They were too close...

"Ishmael... let him go... please."

Beyond Yaha’s shoulder, Wei Tianyang saw Kacha holding a Type 90 rifle, aimed straight at him.

What’s going on?

He felt his right hand was wet and sticky. Looking down, the Bone Knife had already extended out, piercing through Yaha’s side.

Blood slid down his pale waistline, like a red velvet carpet unrolling over the polished marble floor.

Yaha gasped for breath, his entire body collapsed in Wei Tianyang’s arms, his face pressed against his chest, his eyes hazy.

He sheathed the Bone Knife and embraced Yaha in his arms, gently laying him down on the ground. His palm was a bloody red, staining Yaha’s white windbreaker with a flush of crimson.

"Take off Yaha’s mouse quickly!" Kacha yelled into his phone.

"Kacha!... put down your gun..." Yaha suddenly said.

He propped himself up from the ground and stood on his own, one hand resting on Wei Tianyang’s shoulder.

"Yaha... Ishmael..." Kacha was somewhat bewildered, the gun in his hand feeling misplaced.

"Put down the weapon, ah... it’s all my fault... I shouldn’t have pushed you..." Yaha managed a smile filled with apology, his voice weak. A lock of white hair rested on his forehead, draping down to the corner of his mouth, giving him the appearance of a girl who had erred.

"Your Black Medicine ailment... is more complicated than I imagined." Yaha clutched at the wound on his waist, squinting through the pain but still maintaining a smile.

There was the sound of hurried footsteps at the staircase. Starbucks came running with a small iron cage, within which a little black mouse was trapped.

Starbucks was unaware of what had happened but saw a large patch of red on Yaha’s waist. Instantly, a murderous look spread across her eyes.

She rushed towards Yaha, quickly opened the small cage, then drew her gun and angrily demanded, "What happened?! Ishmael! Who did this?"

Yaha’s pale, delicate fingers, swift as a poisonous snake, clamped down on the little mouse.

The Bone Knife’s large contact area created five gaping wounds in a person, but on a mouse, they were enormous... So when Yaha transferred his wound to the mouse, it suddenly turned into a lump of rotten flesh...

"Don’t worry, Starbucks, my wound is definitely not more important than the box of coffee beans you lost. If you don’t mind, may I borrow your handkerchief?" Yaha said casually.

Starbucks looked at Wei Tianyang and then at Kacha. Although she found the situation odd, she still pulled a handkerchief from her shirt pocket and handed it to Yaha.

"Ishmael must be tired, let him go back to his room to rest. It’s most important that everyone is safe," Yaha said as he wiped the blood from his waist, speaking as if nothing had happened.

Wei Tianyang hadn’t recovered from his earlier loss of control. It was an unconscious lapse; when he had driven his Bone Knife through Yaha’s abdomen, all he heard was a howling in his head, completely unaware of his own body’s reaction.

If... such behavior occurred frequently in the future, he would be no different from a time bomb within the team.

Yaha was being very generous, forgiving and forgetting, but the more he did so, the heavier the psychological burden became for Wei Tianyang.

"Ishmael... I’m glad you’re back safe... I thought I had lost you. Thanks to you for this afternoon’s operation... otherwise, I might have been done for," Starbucks said.

Her expression softened a great deal, and only now did she remember to thank him.

Damn Starbucks, you’re so weak.

This thought flashed through Wei Tianyang’s mind. He was expressionless, but inside he felt extremely awkward and just wanted to retreat to his room fast.

"It’s nothing," he replied.

"That’s more like it, this is a team, a family, right? Starbucks? You should thank Ishmael properly later," Yaha said with a smile.

Starbucks nodded.

Meanwhile, Kacha leaned his rifle against the wall, his emotions calming down as well.

"Kacha, do your duty," Yaha instructed, then added with a smile, "But don’t upset him."

"Ishmael, come on, I’ll prepare dinner for you, along with some bath water and clothes," Kacha said.

Wei Tianyang nodded to Yaha and then followed Kacha into the stairwell.

The candlelight from the hall gradually faded behind them, leaving only their monotonous footsteps in the stairway.

They walked in silence for a long time until they reached the door of the room, where Kacha couldn’t hold back anymore, "You... you scared me to death just now."

"After taking Black Medicine, there can be some... strange symptoms. Did I look like it just now?" Wei Tianyang countered.

"I’ve thought so from the beginning," Kacha nodded.

"I thought you pointed a gun at me just now because you suspected me of betrayal," Wei Tianyang said.

Kacha shook his head with a smile and continued, "I’ve taken lots of photos, mostly portraits. I’ve seen many people’s eyes. You know, through the eyes, one can see a person’s true nature. What kind of person one is, their eyes show it."

"Oh, so what did you see in my eyes?" Wei Tianyang asked.

"No matter what I saw, there was anything but betrayal. Seriously, I’d rather believe you’d wipe out everyone on Earth than believe you’d betray," Kacha replied with a laugh.

"You’re giving me too much credit..." Wei Tianyang responded with a wry smile.

"I’ll bring your dinner over, you go in first," Kacha said.

Wei Tianyang nodded, Kacha gave a slight bow, then turned and left, his tall, lanky figure moving past candle after candle until it finally disappeared into the darkness at the end of the corridor.

He let out a long sigh, turned, and walked into his room.
