Chapter 352 - 350 Meaningless
Chapter 352: Chapter 350 Meaningless
The bodyguard felt little pain; within a mere second after Wei Tianyang’s fist punctured his abdomen, he instantly became annihilation.
Wei Tianyang was now disheveled, his upper body clothing had long been shredded into rags by rifle fire, and after activating his ability, his eyes developed four pupils, a horn curved out of his forehead, and his body turned dark due to steel transformation. At a glance, he looked monstrous.
He swaggered through the mansion’s main door, where a red carpet unfurled beneath his feet, and the chandeliers on the ceiling shed a soft orange-yellow light. No matter the country, the President Mansion was always luxurious, whether in developed nations, those developing, or the impoverished.
His dull footsteps echoed through the hallway, as though a demon weighing over ten tons was roaming the building.
Wei Tianyang met no resistance. He knew, as did the opposition, that against him, mortal resistance was meaningless.
He reached the second floor; the President’s office was at the end of the corridor. His gaze swept over the walls, into the rooms on either side where public officials cowered, flanked by their bodyguards and security forces.
The President sat alone in the office, deciding to face his fate by himself.
Wei Tianyang pushed open the door and saw the black President dressed in a suit and tie, sitting behind a long table, wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses. He showed no fear, no anger; he just quietly watched Wei Tianyang, seeking an answer from him.
"I received a call—they said many factories were destroyed in a single day. I knew right away, it was definitely you," said the President.
Wei Tianyang closed the door behind him and reversed his steel transformation. Standing in front of the desk, he said, "I had to do it."
"Why?" the President asked.
"Why?" Wei Tianyang echoed.
"That day at the United Council, I was there when you gave your speech. You didn’t notice me, but I watched you, listened carefully, and I agreed with your points," the President said in a measured tone.
He paused for a moment, then added, "When the United Council and the Sethiyan Federation decided to invade Gambia, I thought you would use your influence to stop them."
"But now, here you stand before me. It proves that your speech was nothing but another political stunt."
"Why is that?" the President asked.
Wei Tianyang blurted out in surprise, "For justice."
"Justice?" the President laughed upon hearing this.
"Laughing at what?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"Justice? What justice?" repeated the President, as though he didn’t grasp Wei Tianyang’s point.
"Justice is justice," Wei Tianyang stated.
"You’re no different from those politicians, Wei. You spout righteousness and morality, yet your hands are covered in blood," the President shook his head.
"I’m doing the right thing! You question my purpose?! You question whether I’m lying publicly?!" Wei Tianyang roared in anger, his growl mixed with the vocal tones of some other species.
"You destroyed the economic pillars this country painstakingly built, you’ve rendered millions jobless, thousands dead, you’ve allowed white armies to invade our lands," the President bit out.
"You collude with terrorists, producing illegal neutralizers—what are you trying to defend?!" Wei Tianyang retorted.
"Illegal neutralizers?" the President asked with a smile.
Wei Tianyang said nothing, just looked at him.
"The Superpower Special Department, it’s only legal for those few Council countries? They say it’s illegal, and so it is? By what right?"
"Gambia has no industry other than selling fish. I’ve brought my country billions in Langke revenue, I’ve provided jobs for the poverty-stricken, I’ve sent fishermen’s sons into factories. Do you realize how much a billion Langke is?"
"That money could improve Gambia’s healthcare system, build universities in the future, and arm our military..."
The President stood up and said, "This is my justice, whereas your justice belongs to those great nations that provide you with a comfortable environment and a superior status. You are nothing but their gun."
"Had you recognized your role from the start, I wouldn’t have held any expectations, Wei. But why did you make that speech? You’ve turned justice into a joke. Of all those you killed today, how many were terrorists? And how many were merely civilians, earning meager wages in the factories?"
The President’s voice trembled slightly. Wei Tianyang could read sadness and anger in his heart—the majority in those factories were indeed ordinary workers involved in production.
Two conflicting ideologies collided and exploded in Wei Tianyang’s mind.
Illegal neutralizers could lead to the proliferation of a global epidemic of Superpower Special Forces, but conversely, who was it that first developed this technology?
If one was worried that these super-soldiers posed a threat, why did they originally mass-produce the Black Medicine, creating pharmaceutical firms everywhere, allowing some citizens of third-world countries to become Medicine People?
Yet, the fact that terrorists sought to use Superpower Special Forces to overthrow the world was also true—they wanted to leverage super-soldiers to start on equal footing with the great powers. Dictatorial small countries also wanted to break free from geopolitical blockades and the deterrence of the great nations, potentially plunging the world into warfare.
The President of Gambia seeking development for his people wasn’t wrong.
The concerns of the United Council weren’t unfounded excuses either.
Looking at the President, Wei Tianyang found himself unable to take action. At that moment, the black goat, Baphomet, emerged from behind him.
Baphomet said, "The concepts created by humans are relative. Relative concepts have no fixed interpretation; they are psychological tools created to rationalize one’s behavior."
"So... justice is meaningless, what value is there to pursue and adhere to such a relative concept? You kill for your country, and to your homeland, you are a hero, you are justice. But to the enemy nation? In the end, all explanations boil down to Zhao Ling’s words, ’Power is the reason to become king.’"
"Horned one, you’d be better off pursuing power like that woman, rather than justice. At least, power is more absolute than justice."
"Power truly exists within the grand narrative, so like the grand narrative, it is absolute. But justice is man-made, so it is relative and meaningless. Therefore, humans... are also meaningless."
"Go pursue the absolute meaning, that is the goal worthy of you."
Having spoken, Baphomet once again slipped into objective reality and disappeared into the distance.
The President clearly didn’t understand what Baphomet had said; he only saw a black goat appear out of nowhere, then vanish just as quickly.
Wei Tianyang felt powerless in front of this President.
He lost his reason to kill the President.
He turned around and left, entangled in a dilemma of self-contradiction.
