Chapter 348: Chapter 346 Decomposition
"No matter what you’re saying, I don’t believe all that mystic mumbo-jumbo," Scott said.
The oily coffee swirled with steaming heat in the porcelain cup, filling the whole room with a rich aroma, and for some reason, coffee always seemed to ease the atmosphere.
"The coffee’s ready. Let’s drink and talk," Lilith said.
She handed the two their coffee and then took a seat beside the table.
All three sipped their coffee, and Lilith steered the conversation back on track, "I’ve done my best to convey my intentions using your language, without any deceit or lies. But I’ve found that you are a very interesting species."
Scott didn’t reply but held his coffee cup, waiting for Lilith to continue.
Setting down her cup, she continued, "Language is thought. What you express should be what’s in your heart. Yet, I’ve found you often say one thing and think another. I can hear your true thoughts, but your words are elusive, even so much that... you’ve even invented the term ’beating around the bush’ to describe such behavior."
"You not only deceive each other but also deceive yourselves. I’ve read your constructed narratives; you fabricated a character, then collectively worshipped them. Yet, what Jinsen did didn’t deviate from the essence of that book, but you put him on some sort of list."
"You live in fiction, in self-deception; you’re different from us. We use language to communicate; your language is a weapon."
Lilith said this and picked up the red leather-bound holy book, adding, "Right now, you’re still doubting who I really am. Let me put it this way: I am your fabricated Rada Gan, and much more powerful than him. I really want to meet the person Jinsen impersonated to create the sect, to see this Wei Tianyang."
"You either have no idea who he is, or you completely ignore the news," Ellie said at this point.
"News... I indeed haven’t watched that, but I can learn what I don’t know through you," Lilith replied.
She reached out her hand towards Ellie and said, "Come on, give me your hand."
Looking at those broad hands, Ellie hesitated, but Scott nodded.
So, Ellie laid her hand in Lilith’s palm. The size difference between their hands was like that between a daughter and her mother.
Lilith closed her eyes, and Ellie felt a faint current travel from her palm into her body, reaching her brain. It was such a subtle sensation that she thought it was merely her imagination.
Lilith, with her eyes closed and in meditation, looked calm and soft, like a beautiful woman just fallen asleep. In about a second, she opened her eyes, as if nothing had happened.
"I think I know now," Lilith said.
She withdrew her hand and took another sip of her coffee.
"What did you do?" Ellie asked, curious.
"I searched through your hippocampus for memories and found the information I needed. I can see what you still remember," Lilith said.
"I won’t believe that," Scott chuckled.
"0451," Lilith smiled.
Scott’s smile froze, and he became serious.
That was the electronic code for their Room 3.
He looked at Ellie as if seeking confirmation, but he knew, these sorts of minor details couldn’t have been leaked. Ellie couldn’t have done it.
There was only one possibility: there was a powerful hacker within this sinister cult...
Scott shook his head, dismissing his own theory. A hacker couldn’t have stolen the code for an electronic lock that wasn’t connected to the internet.
Besides, the code wasn’t anything of great importance.
He wavered but wasn’t quite ready to give up.
"That proves nothing," Scott said.
"It doesn’t matter. I got what I wanted: Wei Tianyang, top secret, capable of defending against a nuclear strike alone, the only soldier with multiple superpowers... Project 091... Chicken Snake Country..." Lilith spoke while narrowing her eyes, falling silent.
Scott believed her now. The declassified information about Wei Tianyang in the news only included the Libitelli nuclear incident and the superpower soldiers, while Project 091, multiple superpowers, and the origins of Chicken Snake Country remained secrets known only within the government.
Lilith knew Ellie’s accessible memories... Even if she was only from the Medicine People, her abilities warranted attention.
"If you can prove you really came from the sky, I’ll be willing to introduce you to the ruler," Scott abruptly said.
Ellie, surprised, looked at Scott but saw his expression unchanged.
Lilith came back to her senses, smiled, and said, "Wasn’t that enough just now?"
"Not enough. That was just an advanced trick. You want to find your offspring? And you’re willing to offer equivalent aid? Then, we need someone on par with Wei Tianyang, someone to neutralize the threat he poses to our nation and government. Can you do it?" Scott said.
Lilith didn’t answer immediately; she just looked at Scott.
"Director... we’re here to..." Ellie started to remind him.
"Silence, this is more important than anything," Scott interrupted.
"You are insulting me," Lilith laughed.
"You want to meet one of the most powerful people on this planet, you have to prove you’re worthy," Scott insisted.
Lilith chuckled, pushed the metal window slightly open, and said, "I’m sorry, Mr. Scott, without your permission, I’ve already done something to the people you brought..."
Scott frowned, stood up, and walked to the window to look out.
At that moment, all he saw was an abstract mass of black, like a jellyfish, floating around the house.
"Where are my men?!" Scott pressed the communicator on his collar, but no sound came back.
"They’ve been disintegrated by me, turned into the most basic punctuation in this Chapter," Lilith said with a laugh.
Scott watched the dense black swirl slowly rotate, sending chills down his spine, the sight before him speaking volumes more than words could express.
As Ellie saw Scott stand there dumbfounded, she too peered out of the window, unable to speak, her hair standing on end, not knowing how Lilith had done it but fearful of her own recent contact with her.
"Do you also have... multiple superpowers?" Scott asked.
"Don’t insult me, Mr. Scott. I am not one of you; this is not a ’superpower.’ I merely wish, and it happens; it’s simply instinct," Lilith smiled.
Half an hour later.
Scott and Ellie were walking on a desolate interstate highway.
"Yes, Mr. Biden. Lilith... she might be the key to defeating Steijie," Scott said.
