I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 309 - 307 Uneasy

Chapter 309: Chapter 307 Uneasy

A luxurious yet antique reception room.

The small shrine had just been offered incense, and the peony-shaped glass chandelier on the ceiling was turned on with only its six outermost lights.

Beneath the chandelier, steam rose from the glazed porcelain bowl on the coffee table, with tea leaves floating atop the amber-colored water.

The sofa was arranged around the coffee table in an unclosed circle shape. Venerable Gu and Venerable Qin sat on one side, facing a man and a woman from the Lingxian Sect across from them.

The woman, despite the deep summer heat, wore a black velvet overcoat, her complexion pale and her black hair pinned up behind her head. She donned an exaggeratedly large black hat with a veil hanging down and a mole beside her pitch-black lips.

The man wore a suit, along with a face mask and round glasses, sporting a buzz cut but with bangs in the center of his forehead that converged like a dagger.

"Lady Mo, Zhao Ling has increasingly disregarded us. She used to reform right under our noses and now she brazenly tortures Li Ruyun. If we do not react, she might just start overturning us," Venerable Qin said indignantly.

"Old Xu holds the military power, and Wei Tianyang has become unrivaled in the world; she’s got quite the spotlight now," Venerable Gu shook his head and took a sip of his tea.

"She was in Libitelli when she saw Wei Tianyang defeat Chen Ran. Her closeness with him is what gave her the confidence," Lady Mo sighed softly.

As soon as she opened her mouth, the temperature in the room dropped by three degrees, and a chilling fragrance emitted from her breath.

The two venerables saw two white spots of light appear behind the black veil and couldn’t help but sigh internally.

Lady Mo, the head of the Lingxian Sect, like Zhao Ling, had lived for a hundred years. Within the sect, others had to address her reverentially as eternal, suggesting that the Black Medicine she commanded was no mere trivial matter.

"We need to make a statement," Lady Mo declared.

Venerable Qin nodded and suggested, "Should we not swiftly cut this tangled mess to avoid prolonged nightmares?"

Lady Mo smiled faintly and asked, "Do you mean, have Zhao Ling killed?"

Venerable Qin responded, "She’s currently in power, and within our conservative old ranks, some are already wavering. If we wait until she’s fully established, it would be too late to act."

"Elder Qin is right, but have you considered this? Wei Tianyang is closest to her. If she’s assassinated, how are we to face him?" Lady Mo questioned.

"We’ve considered your concern, Lady Mo, but keeping Zhao Ling around is more detrimental than beneficial. After all, she’s surely already preparing to deal with us old-timers," Venerable Gu shook his head.

"Lingxian Sect cannot offer assistance at the moment," Lady Mo sighed.

Hearing this, the two venerables exchanged glances, their brows furrowed tightly.

"Lady Mo, at this critical juncture, if we don’t have the support of Lingxian Sect, attempting a coup from our faction is highly perilous," Venerable Qin remarked.

"Killing Zhao Ling isn’t hard; the challenge lies in the aftermath. Even without Wei Tianyang, dealing with her loyalists and power base, plus Venerable Xu... it’s a formidable task."

"Three years ago, Wei Tianyang burst onto the scene and then entered Yin Country, where Zhao Ling drew out his emotions. The internal political landscape initially was a competition between two factions, but many from the neutral and conservative factions have since realigned with the reformers."

"The speech at the United Council that day, where they publicly acknowledged that affair... Now he’s tied to Zhao Ling, even a dog would know which side to choose," Lady Mo said with a faint smile.

"Ah! We’ve been fighting with that girl Zhao Ling for twenty years, and all our plans and preparations have been disrupted by Wei Tianyang."

"Three years, and you just watched her grow closer to Wei Tianyang? With all the commotion in Wuliang City of Chicken Snake Country, could you not see his value?" Lady Mo asked.

Venerable Qin took a sip of tea, somewhat displeased, and said, "The Superpower Special Department is nothing special. I’ve seen individuals capable of annihilating a city before; naturally, I didn’t pay him any mind at the time."

"At the time, we only thought a ’trinity’ Medicine Person had emerged. When Tian Tai was still around, we were only interested in Project 091," Venerable Gu added.

"You’ve made a foolish mistake, which is underestimating others," Lady Mo revealed a rare trace of irritation, but quickly, her emotions were under control again.

Venerable Qin, a bit annoyed as well, could only silently endure.

"Over these three years, we too wanted to meet Wei Tianyang, to foster a relationship with him, but that Zhao Ling guarded him as if guarding against thieves," Venerable Qin shook his head and said.

"She’s raised him as if he were her own son. Entering the upper levels of Qiongyu Pavilion is harder than going to the moon! It’s easier to meet the Emperor than to see Wei Tianyang," Venerable Gu lamented.

"Now, Zhao Ling has not only raised Wei Tianyang as her adopted son, but she has also climbed into his bed. This woman, just like when she was young, would forsake her face to achieve her goals," Venerable Qin said angrily.

"Less anger, please. Trying to assassinate Zhao Ling now would be impossible," Lady Mo shook her head.

"If we don’t act now, we’ll never have another chance," Venerable Gu said.

"The difficulty of assassination is indeed high. Zhao Ling herself has superpowers, and though they are only of a ’triangular’ form, she has trained extensively in combat—attempting a close assassination with bare hands or cold weapons is nearly impossible. The only one who could have overpowered her with bare hands, Li Ruyun, has already been killed by her..." Venerable Qin said coldly.

"To kill her, Wei Tianyang is very likely to seek vengeance, so it must not appear to be a political assassination. It should look like a crime of passion, carried out by someone outside the political sphere," Venerable Gu continued.

"That’s a correct assessment, but it will be hard to deceive Wei Tianyang. His powers have now grown unique, and he can continually absorb... Chen Ran’s silence, Libitelli’s trinity, Zoe’s mind-reading—he knows them all. Along with the superpowers he already possessed, you cannot deceive or defeat him. To move against Zhao Ling is to seek your own death," Lady Mo still opposed.

The two venerables fell into deep thought, but they also understood that whatever they planned was useless as long as Wei Tianyang stayed with Zhao Ling; it was an unsolvable situation.

Everyone was silent for a while.

"I have a plan, but it might cause some chaos in Yin Country," Lady Mo suddenly said.

"Oh? Do you have a great idea?" Venerable Qin smiled.

"We can secretly support a group of terrorists. Make sure they do not have superpower users, let them wreak havoc in the key cities of Yin Country, I believe you two venerables should be able to handle the weapons issue," Lady Mo said.

Venerable Gu held his chin, his expression serious.

That’s ruthless... After all, Yin Country is our own home. For the sake of power and profit, it’s not worth wreaking havoc in one’s own home.

Venerable Gu pondered silently. Meanwhile, turning to look at Venerable Qin, he saw she actually looked pleased.

"Great idea! Let it be chaos! She will have to exhaust all her efforts to suppress the insurgents and counterterrorism, and we can spread our forces more widely, keeping her constantly on the run. Additionally, the rebels can adopt a strategy to only act while Wei Tianyang is away on United Council missions. As soon as he returns to the country, they immediately go into hiding," Venerable Qin said with a smile.

"Venerable Qin! Is that really okay? Once the major cities inside the country fall into a counterterrorism war, not to mention us, what about those internal powers that already intend to seize control, and the foreign-funded forces, wouldn’t they take advantage of the chaos?" Venerable Gu said anxiously.

"What are you afraid of? The chaos won’t reach us; our positions are already being undercut by that woman Zhao Ling. Many who follow us will no longer enjoy wealth and honor, that doesn’t concern you, but you feel pity for the common people suffering?" Venerable Qin said
