Chapter 283: Chapter 281: The Reason for Escaping
The warehouse was a river of blood. The iron door clanged open from the outside, and two guards, hearing the commotion, rushed in.
They saw Wang Ye, standing among six bodies, holding a shovel. The two guards were so frightened that they dared not approach.
Wang Ye calmly dropped the shovel, raised his hands, and said, "They attacked first..."
Seeing that he had dropped his weapon, the younger guard didn’t say a word, pulled out his rubber baton, and started beating Wang Ye fiercely over the head.
Wang Ye didn’t fight back; he protected his head and crouched on the ground, taking the beating. After the beating, two men twisted his arms and took him into the reform school building.
Ading and Lu Wei, watching through the wire mesh, saw Wang Ye being taken away by the guards, both with anxious expressions on their faces.
"Brother Yezi has been taken away... He’s covered in blood... It couldn’t be..." Ading hurriedly said.
Lu Wei was speechless, watching them cross the playground and walk towards the main building of the reform school, never to reappear.
PM.
Reform School Confinement Room.
Wang Ye’s hands were tied with rope, and he was hung in the middle of the room.
Chen Yong, the head captain of the guard team, lifted Wang Ye’s chin with a rubber baton. The beating he had just administered had tired him out, and he said, "You little troublemaker, daring to kill someone in the correctional facility? Have you no respect for the law?!"
By now, Wang Ye was covered in bruises and wounds, his chest and stomach red and purple, and a wound on his abdomen was still bleeding. His left eye socket was swollen, his right cheek puffed up, a tooth knocked out, blood in his mouth, and blood froth hanging on his chin.
"They... attacked first... You all know Xiao Tian bullies people in here... Why don’t you deal with him..." Wang Ye said weakly.
He had no strength to stand, his head barely lifted by the rubber baton, his voice hoarse and feeble.
"Why do they only bully you and no one else? It takes two to tango! Flies don’t sting seamless eggs! If they bully you, it only means you’re of the same stripe!" Chen Yong glared at him.
Wang Ye wanted to retort, but Chen Yong didn’t give him the chance. He took the baton and fiercely struck him in the abdomen. Wang Ye’s stomach churned, his throat heated, and he vomited on the floor.
After vomiting, his body went cold, his strength seemingly drained from his body, and then, he collapsed, passing out.
Seeing Wang Ye unconscious, Chen Yong pulled out a stun gun, intending to wake him up. Just then, the door to the confinement room was suddenly pushed open.
"Hit him again and he’ll die," a low but clear female voice came from the doorway.
A woman in her forties walked in, plump and stately. She wore black-framed glasses, her long hair pinned up at the back, dressed in a black business suit, her figure robust and her complexion cold. It was Li Ting, the director of the reform school.
"Director, I was just disciplining this troublemaker! This brat, this afternoon, he took out Xiao Tian and the others!" Chen Yong chuckled.
Li Ting glanced at the unconscious Wang Ye, pushed her glasses up, and said, "Discipline?"
"That’s right, this bad seed, born of a mother but raised by no one, so young and already on his back more than a dozen lives! If we let him go, who knows what horrifying cases he might cause in the future!" Chen Yong said.
Li Ting scoffed disdainfully and said, "Xiao Tian is a regular here at the reform school. He hasn’t killed anyone, but he’s hurt many."
After saying this, she looked at Wang Ye and added, "I think he did a good deed."
Chen Yong laughed, "Ha ha ha... You must be joking... How can Xiao Tian compare to him? Xiao Tian is just overly mischievous and clueless, but he never took a life."
Li Ting coldly said, "Every time Xiao Tian’s family visits him, they bring a lot of cigarettes and alcohol; don’t think I don’t know."
Hearing this, Chen Yong’s expression turned cold, his smile freezing on his face, and he scoffed, "What? Are you going to hold me accountable now?"
"You use discipline as an excuse, pick on the juvenile offenders, drag them to the confinement room and torture them, just to satisfy your own sadistic tendencies. I usually turn a blind eye, but today you went too far," Li Ting said.
"Then from now on, you tell me whom to target, and I’ll do it. How about that?" Chen Yong laughed.
"This is a juvenile reformation institute, not an interrogation room; it seems you’ve forgotten all about discipline," Li Ting said.
Chen Yong sneered and replied, "Since you said that, I’ll take care of it myself."
After speaking, Chen Yong left the room.
Li Ting looked at Wang Ye, who was covered in wounds, walked up to him, and softly asked, "Is your name Wang Ye?"
Wang Ye hadn’t come to his senses yet; hearing someone speak to him, he nodded.
"Do you understand the consequences of your actions?" Li Ting asked.
Wang Ye nodded.
"Xiao Tian targeted you from the beginning. He was instigated to provoke you into using violence, to change your sentence. The person behind him is the protector of those you slashed in the Lower District. You cut their enforcers and blocked many people’s money flow, and you have no significant background..." Li Ting explained.
"Why are you telling me all this..." Wang Ye asked.
"I know you’re different from them," Li Ting said.
Wang Ye remained silent.
"I’ve reviewed your file; it’s true that you broke the law, but it’s also true you were bullied. Fighting back when bullied is natural for anyone," Li Ting said.
"Hmph... in the end, I’m still going to be executed by firing squad..." Wang Ye said.
"Some kids are beyond saving, but some deserve a chance to live," Li Ting said.
Hearing about a chance to live, Wang Ye perked up.
He struggled to open his eyes and looked at the woman.
"What I mean is not to absolve you of your crimes—the law is rigid, and you have killed six juvenile offenders; a death sentence is certain," Li Ting stated.
"So what should I do..." Wang Ye asked.
"There’s an option. You need to make the decision yourself," Li Ting said.
"Speak..." Wang Ye urged.
"There’s a secret military unit willing to take on some... young death row inmates, like you," Li Ting revealed.
He had no real choice now, to live, he could only follow this woman’s lead and join this unit.
"I am willing to join... Will they come and take me out?" Wang Ye asked.
Li Ting smiled, shook her head, and said, "No, they won’t come; you have to find your own way out."
"I... how can I get out now..." Wang Ye shook his head.
"You need to figure out how to escape from here. Only then will they consider you worthy of their next stage of assessment," Li Ting explained.
"Are you... telling me to escape... That unit isn’t terrorists, right..." Wang Ye questioned.
"They fight for a higher purpose using more extreme means; I don’t consider them terrorists. In a sense, your actions somewhat match theirs. That’s why I’m willing to give you a chance," Li Ting elaborated.
She paused, then added, "You don’t have much time left; if you want to survive, act tonight. I know you’re hurt, but that unit won’t care about that."
Wang Ye didn’t hesitate and nodded, "After I escape, how do I find them?"
"Once you escape, they’ll find you," Li Ting said.
