Chapter 268: Chapter 266 Rewrite
Zhao Ling grunted, her eyes fixed on the knife that had pierced through her body, her face was filled with resentment and unwillingness.
Then, the knife was swiftly withdrawn, and she cried out with a grunt, but was quickly tossed aside by a large mechanical hand grabbing her head.
In Wei Tianyang’s field of view, he saw two soldiers donning power armor.
The soldiers looked at him emotionlessly and were concurrently speaking with someone on the other end of the communication terminal:
"The attack was successful, yes, all three have lost their mobility. Execute on the spot?"
The soldier fell silent for a moment, then nodded his head and said "Understood." He then grabbed Wei Tianyang by the collar and hoisted him onto his shoulder.
Wei Tianyang saw Zhao Ling lying sideways on the ground, her blood had spilled everywhere, and two infantrymen wearing only standard combat gear were stepping on her shoulder to check if she was dead.
Below the highway, a black armored personnel carrier was parked in the mud, where two medics were carrying Fujiwara Makoto on a stretcher into the vehicle, while Wei Tianyang himself was thrown behind a truck.
He lay on his side, gave a twist, and soon after, was kicked in the abdomen by a nearby soldier.
"Is he awake?!" The soldier appeared somewhat panicked.
"Don’t be afraid, the Heavenly Emperor is here, they’re just ordinary people now," said a soldier in power armor from beneath the vehicle.
A few minutes passed and Zhao Ling was also thrown beside him. Her face was ashen, having fainted from pain, with skin and flesh turned inside out below her collarbone, the wound was ghastly to behold.
The vehicle started up and carried them off in an unknown direction. Wei Tianyang drifted in and out of consciousness, clueless as to where he was.
About ten minutes later, his hands were handcuffed behind his back, and soldiers carried him off the vehicle. He saw a makeshift camp, and a man in a suit standing in front of a white tent.
They dumped him and Zhao Ling on the ground. Zhao Ling, awoken by pain, struggled to rise but was kicked in the face, causing her nose to bleed profusely as she cursed in agony and anger.
Then the man approached them, Wei Tianyang could only see his pair of shoes.
"...you son of a bitch..." Zhao Ling cursed.
The man crouched down, grabbed Zhao Ling by the collar, and inserted his hand into the knife wound below her collarbone.
"Hmm!! Ahh!!! Fuck you...!!!!" Zhao Ling screamed in pain, but her voice was weak due to exhaustion and excessive blood loss.
"You weren’t like this decades ago when you came begging to us, Zhao Ling," the man said in a deep voice.
"Chen Ran... just kill me... don’t play dirty, if you’re going to do it, make it clean! Do it now!!" Zhao Ling shouted angrily.
"Do I need you to tell me?" Chen Ran replied coldly.
He motioned to a nearby soldier, who then drew a survival knife and handed it to Chen Ran.
Taking the knife, Chen Ran flipped Zhao Ling onto her back, and leisurely began to unbutton her upper garment, exposing her upper abdomen and chest.
Without another word, Chen Ran grabbed Zhao Ling by the throat and plunged the knife into her heart. The sound of the blade slicing into the flesh was chilling.
Blood gushed uncontrollably from Zhao Ling’s upper abdomen; no amount of muscle tension could prevent the bloody holes pierced into her flesh.
Her eyes widened in pain, her complexion turned pale, and she could not even moan.
Zhao Ling’s expression changed from anger to discomfort, then to agony, and finally, she lay expressionless, her lips slightly parted.
As if fearing she wouldn’t die completely, Chen Ran stabbed her six or seven times with the knife and even shredded her abdominal cavity three times before stopping.
Blood sprayed onto Chen Ran’s face, but he remained calm as though he was simply performing a job.
He withdrew the knife and wiped the blood on his suit before handing it back to the soldier; then, he turned his attention to Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang was lying face down, his cheek pressing against the dirt and could only see Chen Ran’s knee. When he tried to look up, a foot was pressed against his cheek.
"091 is also awake," said a soldier nearby.
"Show him some respect," Chen Ran said.
The soldier moved his foot away.
Chen Ran crouched down, grabbed Wei Tianyang’s shoulder, and flipped him over, just like Zhao Ling, into a supine position.
"I’ve heard of you many times, but today is the first time I’ve seen you."
Chen Ran’s eyes glimmered green as he looked at Wei Tianyang and said coldly.
Wei Tianyang still didn’t speak; he was still a bit dizzy.
Chen Ran let out a cold laugh and said,
"I don’t know what you’re thinking right now, but I want to tell you that I never thought about confronting you head-on, not once."
"I’ve read your file, your background, experiences, injection times, clinical reactions, trial supervisors... and some things from these past three years, I’ve read it all."
"I do feel some sympathy for you, I know it hasn’t been easy. But you’ve also had a good run these past three years, haven’t you? You’ve received exceptional treatment and caused quite a commotion in Yixu following your own desires."
"But have you ever considered? All gifts come with a price to pay?"
"Your painful childhood and adolescence have granted you this incredible power and a life beyond the imagination of ordinary people. But it isn’t the norm; the good times will come to an abrupt end."
"If you were wise, you would’ve had an operation early on to remove your superpower; maybe then you could still have quite a good life within the bounds of what’s considered normal in Yin Country."
"But you didn’t."
"You chose to continue your arrogant and presumptuous ways; with this power, you engaged in childish acts, satisfying your personal desires. Who do you think you are?"
"Enough talk, the only reason I’ve said all this is to tell you that your story is meaningless, everything you’ve experienced is meaningless, and it should be meaningless."
"Don’t always feel like you can change something. People need to be self-aware, returning what doesn’t belong to them sooner rather than later, otherwise, it leads to outcomes like today’s."
Having finished speaking, Chen Ran reached out his hand to the soldier beside him.
"...Lingxian Sect..." Wei Tianyang suddenly uttered a few words.
Chen Ran laughed and said, "Hmm? What’s that?"
"Lingxian Sect... where is it hidden?" Wei Tianyang asked.
Chen Ran took the knife and said with a smile, "What’s your guess?"
Then, he expertly began to unbuckle Wei Tianyang’s shirt, exposing his upper abdomen and chest.
Chen Ran gripped the knife handle and thrust the blade into Wei Tianyang’s abdomen, then stirred skillfully.
Muscles and heart shredded together; he grunted twice, then closed his eyes, dying in agony.
Chen Ran pulled out the knife and wiped it on his suit.
Then, the green glow in his eyes dimmed as he reached out to a medical soldier nearby.
The opposite side handed him an antidote, which he injected into his own neck.
"Autopsy both of their bodies right here, only take back the spine. The bodies are too big, and they start to smell if left too long. Where’s that girl from Churi Country? I want to go see her."
As Chen Ran spoke, he tossed the empty syringe aside and walked toward the camp commander.
Behind him, the noise of the soldiers filled the air.
"What’s going on?" he asked as he turned around, only to see the two bodies on the ground had turned into pink dust.
...
After only a few seconds of hesitation, alarm bells went off in his head.
Just as Chen Ran thought to activate his superpower again, a sonic boom rang out, the ground beneath him collapsed, a howling gale roared, and in an instant, a pair of crimson eyes appeared right in front of him.
