I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 267 - 265: Raid
Chapter 267: Chapter 265: Raid
"Launching a nuclear missile at his own country? Fogen has truly gone mad..."
Wei Tianyang’s expression turned grave after hearing the content of the phone call.
The power of a nuclear missile was not as great as his own.
Before this, Wei Tianyang had only heard about nuclear missiles from the news; he knew they were massive weapons of destruction with immense power and radioactive contamination. In the past, they were the ultimate means of maintaining the balance of power among superpowers, a deterrent force which, after 2075, was replaced by the Superpower Special Forces.
But after undergoing military training in Yin Country, Wei Tianyang’s understanding of nuclear missiles had deepened.
They remained among the most powerful explosives in existence.
Though powerful, the nuclear missile was not as formidable as he had imagined; a single missile couldn’t instantaneously flatten a city with a million residents like he could.
The advantage of a nuclear missile lay in its persistent radioactive contamination and extremely low interception rate.
In modern warfare, employing nuclear weapons wouldn’t just involve launching one but rather targeting an area with over a dozen, even dozens, to achieve saturation bombing.
Because modern cities have a strong ability to resist attacks, one nuclear missile might destroy the living environment of a target city but couldn’t completely cripple its industrial system.
Fogen knew Wei Tianyang’s capabilities; he wanted a fail-safe.
"Would the government of Libitelli really allow him to drop a nuclear bomb on Lusimin City?" Wei Tianyang asked Zhao Ling when he didn’t respond.
However, Zhao Ling didn’t seem surprised.
"His approach is correct; his own government cabinet will definitely approve of his actions," said Zhao Ling.
Wei Tianyang was shocked.
Zhao Ling shook his head:
"There’s nothing to be surprised about. Their top brass knows you’re here and what you’re capable of. They also know you’ve had a fallout with Fogen."
"Moreover, you took away what the Lingxian Sect and Humanity’s Dawn wanted. There’s no room left for negotiation or compromise."
"They know I’m here, maybe the people from Humanity’s Dawn are also lurking in the shadows."
"The Lingxian Sect might also want to use this situation to their advantage; Chen Ran has us locked in here. And they might have thought that if they can’t have Fujiwara Makoto, they might as well destroy her."
"Such a perfect opportunity to eliminate three targets at once. Without superpowers, you can’t teleport, I can’t fly; relying solely on driving won’t get us far."
After finishing, Zhao Ling reconfirmed with Venerable Xu on the phone: "How long do they have until they finish the missile launch program?"
"All their nuclear missile bases and submarines are under surveillance here. Fogen might issue the launch command from an airplane," Venerable Xu informed.
"The nuclear launch protocols of Libitelli aren’t that simple unless his special plane has a nuclear briefcase," Zhao Ling said.
"We don’t have related intelligence, Zhao Ling. If you can’t return this time, our cause might be hopeless," Venerable Xu said.
"Don’t be so pessimistic..." Zhao Ling responded.
"Wait... Lusimin City also has a million residents, right? Has their government decided to let these civilians perish just to eliminate us?!" Wei Tianyang exclaimed.
Zhao Ling hung up the phone, his round eyes fixated on Wei Tianyang.
"What?!" Wei Tianyang asked, puzzled.
"They’ve already used the people of this city for drug trials; do you think they still consider them human?" Zhao Ling replied.
Wei Tianyang was at a loss for words.
Zhao Ling said helplessly,
"Population is a resource to a country, and resources can be expended. Fogen’s authorities aren’t thinking about how many people in this city will die but rather how to cover up the scandal here."
"They originally wanted your help to resolve the problem, but you didn’t, giving them a chance to shift the blame."
Wei Tianyang’s mind raced upon hearing this.
He had killed four people of the Trinity, one of whose abilities was called ’Sky Curtain’...
"You were too impulsive... Yang, you’ve put yourself in this situation. Instead of thinking about others, you should first figure out how to save your life!" Zhao Ling said.
"I have a way..."
Before Wei Tianyang could finish, a series of bullet holes suddenly appeared in the windshield of the car.
Fujiwara Makoto suddenly woke up and screamed loudly.
Then, various noises erupted around Wei Tianyang’s ears, as if something had shattered, and he instinctively hit the brakes.
Soon after, pink flashes filled his vision and a gust of wind brushed against his face, the seat beneath him, the steering wheel in his hands, and the pedals under his feet all disappeared into thin air.
The three of them plummeted onto the highway, their bodies colliding and grinding against the asphalt, bones wailing and muscles crying.
Wei Tianyang was thrown around violently; he rolled on the ground a few times, dislocating his shoulder, and the outer side of his arm was scraped off a large patch of flesh, ending up by the guardrail.
Zhao Ling and Fujiwara Makoto were not much better off, lying nearby with severe injuries.
In the final moments, Wei Tianyang had braked, reducing the speed from over 60 mph to 20 mph, but the inertia hadn’t decreased as quickly, which could only mean... he had barely saved a life by not being thrown to death.
Zhao Ling struggled to get up from the ground, first checking on Fujiwara Makoto, then hobbling over to him.
"Yang!! How are you?!" Zhao Ling shouted as she gently patted his cheek.
But Wei Tianyang only saw her shouting continuously, yet he couldn’t hear anything, nor feel his body, pain, or any emotion.
He seemed to drift outside this perilous situation, observing everything from a third-person perspective.
What happened?
Wei Tianyang found this experience quite marvelous; at first, viewing Zhao Ling’s face in the first person, then everything went dark before his eyes, and when he opened them again, he had risen above.
Zhao Ling was kneeling beside him, he could see his own body lying by the guardrail, his left calf bent at a horrifying angle, his right sleeve torn extensively, the ground soaked with blood, while he himself had his eyes tightly shut, as if sunk into a sweet dream.
He tried to turn his head to look at Fujiwara Makoto but found he couldn’t change his perspective, floating like a ghost three meters above the ground.
He was wondering if this might be the so-called life flashing before one’s eyes. However, the next second, things in front of him started blurring, losing shape, only leaving behind colors.
These colors gradually merged, then faded into a gray-white, which then darkened into black.
His vision was quickly engulfed in black.
Dead?
Shit...
Wei Tianyang felt somewhat amused; he had never imagined that after finally becoming so powerful, he would die in a car crash caused by a surprise attack.
However, the darkness before him wasn’t purely black.
Within that blackness, a faint white glow shined, and upon closer inspection, it was actually rows and rows of text.
Strangely enough, these characters were both familiar and unfamiliar to him, intimately known yet also strange.
It was hard for him to explain this feeling; if he had to compare it, it was like staring at a character for half an hour and then doubting its existence.
This text, densely packed yet not chaotic, punctuated and segmented, formed neatly organized formats.
Like a page from a novel.
He found he still couldn’t move his perspective, but he could move his body up, down, left, and right, and so he did, observing aimlessly.
There were many words, no matter which direction he moved, he couldn’t see them all. Thus, he kept moving upwards, trying to see if he could get to the end.
It might have been a few minutes, or perhaps only a few seconds, but he finally reached the top.
The top line consisted of a short Chapter title made up of numbers and characters.
He stared at it for a while and suddenly realized, it read: Chapter 265: Surprise Attack
"2... what... me..."
He felt as though he had glimpsed some ultimate truth, something inside his soul stirring.
"Yang!!! Wake up!!"
Zhao Ling’s voice suddenly rang by his ear, interrupting his thoughts.
The darkness before his eyes instantly vanished, sunlight blinding him, and Zhao Ling’s beautiful yet tragic face appeared before him.
"Yang...! How are you? You scared me to death! I really fucking thought you died!" Zhao Ling exclaimed with a mix of shock and joy, sighing deeply, proudly thrusting her chest forward.
Just at that moment, an iron-gray mechanical hand grabbed her head, a sharp dagger piercing from below her right collarbone, thrusting out a large chunk of flesh.
