Chapter 259 - 257 Rent

Chapter 259: Chapter 257 Rent

"Now is not the time to sleep, you’ve already caused a major political incident, and there must be an explanation for this..." Spencer was becoming anxious.

Libitelli, a country of such size, with combined military and economic power ranked fifth, is also one of the five major council members of the United Council. And Churi Country’s influence in the East Continent isn’t small either.

"You’ve killed so many of their regular troops, if the Fogen Government takes no action, it will face tremendous domestic public opinion pressure. Fogen has only one year left in his term before reelection... He’s not going to let this go." Spencer continued.

"He hid something from me, and he’s been colluding with other organizations too. Don’t you always talk about the law? I’ve got witnesses and physical evidence. When he’s out of office, what does it have to do with me?" Wei Tianyang said with a smile.

"Don’t be naive. Ordinary people follow the law, those at the top use the law, and those in power make the law. You’ve now offended a person in power, no... you’ve offended the ruling class of your own country. It’s not just Fogen who wants an explanation, it’s the country’s power group that demands one. If they let you off this time, then Libitelli will have no face left on the international stage," Spencer said.

Wei Tianyang huffed, "Ah, I knew it, it’s all the same old story..."

"Stop joking around... You’ve indirectly dragged Zhao Ling down with you..." Spencer shook his head.

"Zhao Ling... What does this have to do with her?" Wei Tianyang was taken aback.

"You’re living in Yin Country, being led by her, and as far as I know, this operation didn’t go through the proper channels of the United Council. Zhao Ling and Fogen activated you privately, right?" Spencer asked.

"You’re well-informed," Wei Tianyang said.

"I overheard them discussing it while flying with those Trinity types," Spencer said.

"Will Zhao Ling get into trouble?" Wei Tianyang asked with a grave tone.

"I’m not sure, but they’ll definitely have to bleed her a little... give up some benefits or something. This is a pure political incident; we’ll see how she deals with it," Spencer said.

"What would happen if I exposed the situation in Lusimin City?" Wei Tianyang asked.

"Nothing would happen. No one will believe you, no one is willing to listen to you, after all, how could you possibly convince the United Council and other council countries to punish another member country? They all dine at the same table!" Spencer said.

"So you’re saying... they all knew about what’s been happening here?" Wei Tianyang asked.

"Maybe they didn’t know before, but now that the issue has escalated, there’s no reason for Fogen to keep hiding it. The question now is whether the countries around the table are still willing to... keep their previous relationship with you," Spencer hinted.

Wei Tianyang understood.

The same incident occurring in Chicken Snake Country or Yixu might not have been an issue.

But happening in Libitelli, or Yin Country, or the Sethiyan Federation... that was unacceptable.

Countries of this world, like people, are categorized into classes. Those at the top-table are untouchable, while the deaths of millions below the table are merely breaking news.

Wei Tianyang looked up at Spencer and said, "I’m tired. I’m going to find a place to sleep. You can go back first."

Spencer was stunned and asked, "You’re joking, right?!"

"If they’re upset, let them send an army to find me," Wei Tianyang said.

After speaking, he turned and walked toward the gap in the surrounding wall; Fujiwara Makoto shook her head and hurried after him.

Spencer watched their figures disappear into the night, uncertain of what to do.

After one night, at 10 AM.

At the Sethiyan Federation, United Council Headquarters building, in the top-floor conference room.

"Last night we lost 1,200 soldiers and 160,000 civilians, all Wei Tianyang’s doing. I believe he’s out of control. He must be held fully responsible for the disaster in Lusimin City," Fogen sat at the table with displeasure on his face.

Rees smiled and looked towards Steijie, saying, "1,200 soldiers I can believe, but 160,000 civilians? Did he kill them?"

Fogen slammed the table and said, "If I say he killed them, then he killed them!"

"Wasn’t Hasegawa Pharmaceutical conducting some kind of experiment over there?" Rees said with a smile.

"That’s unrelated. They were just researching a new type of flu medicine there," Fogen shook his head.

Having said that, he looked towards Steijie and Helena Mina, who had remained silent.

Helena Mina was rubbing her temples, deep in thought.

Steijie, on the other hand, was staring blankly at the report in front of him.

"You lost four Trinities last night, didn’t you?" Fogen said.

"That’s right," Steijie replied mechanically, without even glancing at him.

"He must be held accountable—fully accountable! Otherwise, how are we supposed to explain this to the public?" Fogen became agitated.

"That’s your country’s problem," Steijie said.

"What did you just say?" Fogen asked, bewildered.

"I lost four Trinities, so we’ll follow the rules—issue compensation and award medals... As for the public opinion in your country... it has nothing to do with me," Steijie stated.

"You sent four superpower special forces capable of massive destruction into my country! And now you’re saying it has nothing to do with you?" Fogen slammed his hand on the table.

"What went wrong with the mission? Did Wei Tianyang truly lose control?" Helena Mina inquired.

Steijie remained silent.

Rees was laughing.

Fogen seriously turned towards Helena Mina and said, "He’s absolutely lost control. He’s contracted the language virus; otherwise, he wouldn’t have faced off against four Trinities!"

"Where is he now?" Helena Mina sighed.

"Still in my country, still in Lusimin City. Moreover, we’ve pinpointed his exact location," Fogen stated.

"If that’s the case, why are we even having this meeting? You just need to launch a few missiles at his coordinates," Rees smirked and suggested.

"Do you have any idea how much public backlash I would face if I did that?" Fogen snapped back angrily.

"A few missiles in exchange for Wei Tianyang—it’s worth it, isn’t it? At most, a few hundred civilians get caught in the collateral damage. It’s a deal no matter how you calculate it," Rees still said with a smile.

"You’re being utterly unreasonable!" Fogen shook his head and simply chose to ignore Rees.

At that moment, Helena Mina suddenly asked, "Where’s Zhao Ling?"

Her gaze drifted from Zhao Ling’s empty chair to the gloomy skies outside the window.

Meanwhile, outside the window, sunlight filtered through the curtains into the small room, where Wei Tianyang, bare-chested, lay on the bed, sleeping soundly.

Last night, he and Fujiwara Makoto had found a small motel in the city and rented a room. The landlord hadn’t dared to charge them.

After taking a shower each, they curled up on the bed and went to sleep, doing nothing else.

In his dream, Wei Tianyang smelled a familiar fragrance and slowly opened his eyes. He saw Fujiwara Makoto still sleeping soundly on his left, but on the wall, a shadow had appeared.

He got up, with his chest and abdomen exposed, yet he felt no need to guard against the newcomer.

Zhao Ling, dressed in a gray business suit, leaned against the door, watching him. Half of her was illuminated by the sunlight from outside, while the other half lurked in the shadow.

"Why are you here?" Wei Tianyang was still groggy, somewhat confused—he even thought this might be a dream.

Zhao Ling was visibly angry, but after a few seconds, she helplessly shook her head, then let out a laugh.

"You can still sleep through this?" she said with exasperation.

"People who don’t understand politics sleep more soundly," Wei Tianyang responded lazily with a smile.

[Fucking hell... How did this little mongrel get more and more sexually lewd... I really want to pounce on him and bite his pecs and neck...]

Zhao Ling’s cheeks flushed red as her mind conjured up some naughty thoughts.

"Did you cross half the globe just to watch me sleep?" Wei Tianyang asked.

"If I weren’t here, you would have been blown to bits by missiles already," Zhao Ling snorted.

"Then... thank you," Wei Tianyang said, and then snuggled back into the blankets, covering his head.

"Hey! You—" Zhao Ling exclaimed.

Wei Tianyang poked his head out from under the blankets, as if he remembered something important, and seriously said, "Right, I have something very important to tell you."

Zhao Ling’s expression turned grave, realizing Wei Tianyang was about to discuss the issue concerning the little girl beside him.

Is she part of the Witch project...?

"Since you’re here, help me go downstairs and pay the room fee, 120 Libitelli for the night. My phone is broken, I can’t make the transfer," Wei Tianyang finished, then ducked back under the blankets.

Zhao Ling was stunned, anger rushing to her face, but against her will, her legs hurriedly carried her downstairs.
