Chapter 181: Chapter 179: The Nuke is Mine~
Wei Tianyang pulled out his phone, scraped off the dirt on the camera lens, started the camera app and flash, and synchronized the video feed to Shepherd.
Shepherd connected to the encrypted channel. After glancing at the screen, he immediately said to the operator, "Get me the Sethiyan Federation President’s Office."
The contact signal rapidly shuttled through satellites, base stations, and submarine cables. Steijie was still in his dreams when his phone suddenly started ringing non-stop on the bedside table.
He sat up, took one look at the caller ID, and his sleepiness evaporated.
"Put it through," he said.
Then, Shepherd’s voice came through the phone.
"We’ve found it. I’m patching you into the channel. Remember, don’t call him by his name, refer to him as ’Owl’!" Shepherd didn’t waste words.
Steijie hastily switched on his desk lamp and fumbled for his earpiece. At the same time, Wei Tianyang’s live video was already displayed on the phone screen.
"Damn! That’s it! The serial number is correct." Steijie jumped out of bed, ran barefoot from his bedroom to the office next to the White House, and entered the side hall.
The agents on duty had no idea what Steijie was up to until he yelled at them, "Get my Minister of Defense, Director of Intelligence, staff officers, and deputy governors here! I want them in the meeting room within 5 minutes!!"
Meanwhile, Shepherd switched back to Wei Tianyang’s channel.
"Owl? You can’t talk now, right? I’ve contacted Governor Steijie, and we need to first confirm if the nuclear bomb is still in the box. Can you open it up?" Shepherd said.
Wei Tianyang’s right hand caressed the casing of the nuclear bomb storage box. It was some kind of metal. He knocked on it and felt it was thick.
If he used his annihilation ability, he wasn’t sure if it would destroy the nuclear bomb inside as well, so he wanted to try brute force first to pry open the metal casing. However, this might make some noise.
Wei Tianyang’s right hand searched along the edge of the box, looking for a leverage point. At the same time, Steijie’s voice came through his earphones.
"I and my Minister of Defense have confirmed it—the serial number on this nuclear bomb matches the one we lost. Good work, Owl!" Steijie was somewhat pleased.
"We are verifying whether the nuclear bomb is still inside the box," Shepherd added.
Just then, Wei Tianyang felt the hinge of the box lid.
He exerted some force, but the strength of the box was beyond his expectations, so he had to lay his phone on the box to find a better angle and position, allowing his right arm to apply greater force.
The sound of metal fatigue echoed inside the container, and the chains securing the nuclear bomb box also made a clanking noise. With great effort, Wei Tianyang pried off the hinge from the box entirely, creating a gap wide enough to fit a fingernail between the lid and the body of the box.
Wei Tianyang turned his index finger into the Bone Knife and carefully inserted it into the gap, gently sliding along the edge of the gap. After a short while, he had cut the entire lid open.
He picked up the phone, gently lifted the lid of the box, and shone the phone’s flashlight inside.
Inside the box was a layer of thick, black, fireproof, shock-resistant hardening material, and in the center, in a molding void, lay an oval-shaped white warhead.
"It’s definitely in there," Shepherd said.
Cheers already rose from Steijie’s office.
"Damn... let’s finish this mess. You can make it disappear, right? Don’t blow it up... its power isn’t any less than yours," Steijie said.
"Hold on," Shepherd interrupted.
Steijie was silent for a moment, and the Minister of Defense whispered, "Shepherd, what are you going to do?"
"Can you teleport with the nuclear bomb?" Shepherd asked.
Wei Tianyang lowered his voice, "No."
He moved the lid to the side and reached out to touch the nuclear bomb. It was cold and very big, about the size of six adults tied together, and even longer than 2 meters.
This was just a warhead, without the launch component. If it had launching capabilities, this weapon would allow an ordinary person without superpowers to press a button and kill a city’s population.
"Owl, I am the Sethiyan Federation Minister of Defense, please help us to destroy this nuclear bomb, alright?" the Minister of Defense said.
Wei Tianyang had a thought. He really could bring any item into objective reality, otherwise, how would his clothes and weapons have gotten there?
He lowered his voice, "I’ll do it now."
Wei Tianyang looked up and affixed his mobile phone magnetically to the top of the container, positioning the front camera to capture the scene of him with the nuclear bomb from above.
Then, he placed his right hand on the nuclear bomb and within a second, entered and exited objective reality.
In that brief instant, he had brought the nuclear bomb with him. In the end, only he emerged.
But in the video, Steijie and the others could only see Wei Tianyang place his hand on the nuclear bomb, and then it disappeared...
"Brilliant... just brilliant! Owl! You’ve just saved hundreds of thousands of innocent lives that could have been killed by this nuclear bomb! You’ve also averted a political crisis! When you return, I will personally award you the Medal of Peace Guardian at the White House!" Steijie laughed.
In the conference room, everyone else was high-fiving each other, except for the House of Representatives Speaker Pelosi, who had been silent all the while and didn’t seem too pleased.
Steijie glanced at Pelosi, and their expressions were intriguing.
Shepherd also breathed a sigh of relief. The mission was complete, and now, it was just a matter of leaving Yixu through legal means.
"Owl, you can evacuate now. That shouldn’t be difficult for you, right?" Shepherd smiled.
"I’ll leave now, but... there’s one more thing." said Wei Tianyang.
Steijie tensed up at this statement; he wasn’t going to bring up the matter with Spencer now, was he?
"What is it?" Shepherd asked.
"Stop calling me Owl, that alias is just too silly," Wei Tianyang smiled.
After saying that, he took down his mobile phone, cut off the communication, and entered objective reality.
The nuclear bomb was now in front of him, as real as could be, capable of destroying a city with a population of several hundred thousand if detonated.
Subconsciously, he believed the bomb was useful to him... Even though he didn’t know under what circumstances he might need it in the future or even how to use it.
But with the bomb in his possession, he could study it slowly. He might not use it, but he couldn’t be without it. Even though he himself could easily wipe out a city, still some actions had to be taken discreetly... as Zhao Ling had said... some dirty work had to be done in hiding, or by having others do it for you...
The current dilemma was... how to take this thing with him? Where to place it?
Thinking this, Wei Tianyang’s mind branched out with new ideas...
It was time to find a place, a secret hideout known only to himself. After all, every boy needs his own secret base, doesn’t he?
