I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 129 - 128: The Black King

Chapter 129: Chapter 128: The Black King

A gray tit fluttered its wings in the rain and landed on Yaha’s body.

Then, a shadow emerged in the air.

The shadow instantly solidified into form, becoming Wei Tianyang.

He lifted Yaha off of Moby Dick’s body, took off his own coat, and wrapped it around her torn and severed arm.

"Yaha? Yaha..." Wei Tianyang reached out to feel for her breath, but she was no longer breathing.

"Are we too late?" Lin Yanqing’s voice came through the earpiece.

Wei Tianyang did not speak, he hugged Yaha and called out her name again.

Yaha’s eyes were closed, her head drooped onto Wei Tianyang’s arm; rainwater slid down her neck into her patient’s gown, accumulating in a small pool where her collarbone lay.

She was like a soulless doll—after being toyed with by Red Pharmaceutical for so long, she was ultimately discarded by her benefactor.

Wei Tianyang remembered something Yaha had once said...

There isn’t too clear a boundary between life and death; it depends on how you define "being alive."

He looked around, trying to find Yaha’s phantom, but he couldn’t find it anywhere.

"Wei Tianyang... take her body and withdraw. The whole city is swarming with PMC, I’ve tapped into their frequency, they’re all coming for you," Lin Yanqing said.

"Why?" Wei Tianyang asked.

"What are you asking?" Lin Yanqing said.

"We were forced to accept things that didn’t belong to us, and yet it was these things that brought about our deaths... to me, this world only offers suffering... why is that?" Wei Tianyang asked.

The gas he exhaled was hot, his face had turned completely black, his crimson pupils rotated in their black sockets, and glowing lines had already spread from his right arm and neck up to his cheeks and forehead.

"When everyone pointed their guns at me, only Yaha reached out her hand to me," Wei Tianyang said in a low voice.

He wasn’t aware that his voice was no longer that of a young man, but had a strange, deep timbre mixed in.

His shadow, like black ink, slowly spread beneath him, and the mud at his knees began to dry up and crack.

"Yaha... your revenge has finally ended," Wei Tianyang said.

He bent down and held Yaha tightly, trying to warm her with his body.

Wei Tianyang could no longer contain his anger, nor the craving within—just like in the Black House, he couldn’t control his thoughts of cruel actions.

For someone like Wei Tianyang, who harbored a nature deep within his heart, the hostile attitude of all the PMCs in Wuliang City was undoubtedly a provocation and invited inevitable destruction.

"Wei Tianyang! The channel... the interference is worsening, I see many PMCs heading your way... retreat quickly... listen..." Lin Yanqing’s voice was no longer clear and broke off completely before she finished.

However, Wei Tianyang made no movement, trembling as he clung to Yaha, his figure gradually blurring. Around his body, rings of black mist appeared, and wherever the mist spread, the rain evaporated, the grass withered, and the soil cracked and hardened.

In an instant, like a black sphere, the black mist enveloped both Wei Tianyang and Yaha. Wei Tianyang felt himself growing taller, his movements became heavy and sluggish. There was always a layer of black mist surrounding him, preventing a clear view. He could not feel his right leg and left arm; he was aware only of his right hand protecting something important, and his left leg kneeling, forced to curl up to keep balance.

Malaise and anxiety grew within his heart, the restlessness finding no outlet. A giant moth perched on his shoulder, unfurled its two pairs of wings, fluttering lightly and shaking off scales. The moth’s head took the place on the giant’s neck, clearing the view before Wei Tianyang’s eyes.

He looked up and saw in the red cosmos, countless glowing eyes staring at him. The moon, trapped in the scarlet galaxy, was already pockmarked with craters, with black shadows fighting upon its surface.

Wei Tianyang straightened up and roared loudly, but no sound came out; his body shook, barely supported by only one leg.

Looking down at the thing he held tightly against his chest, it was a tiny white light, so faint, like a candle about to be snuffed out in a storm.

Wei Tianyang leaned down and shielded the light in front of his chest.

Meanwhile, Lin Yanqing, through the eyes of a tea-colored sparrow, saw something that surprised her.

She saw Wei Tianyang wrapped in black spherical fog, and then, suddenly, he transformed into a headless, left-handless, and right-legless black giant tens of meters tall!

The giant’s back sprouted vague black wings that, with just a gentle flicker, caused all the surrounding trees to wither and fade.

Lin Yanqing swooped down and flew to the front of the giant, who then astonishingly raised its body and mimicked the motion of a roar.

At that moment, Lin Yanqing’s bird’s-eye view was abruptly cut off.

She slammed back into her body, quickly took out the antidote and injected it into her neck, then, without a thought for the pouring rain, got out of the car.

She ran up the hillside and looked towards the city area with a telescope; a few kilometers away, the black giant was no longer visible, obscured by a black hemispherical shield that was expanding at an alarming rate, as if it was about to swallow up the entire Wuliang City.

Li Songyan was shouting something at the car door, but Lin Yanqing didn’t hear him clearly. She vaguely felt something was wrong, and following her instincts, she turned and ran back to the car, pulling Li Songyan along, "Drive! Drive!! Get out of here!!"

Without another word, Li Songyan too sensed something off about the black shield. He immediately took the driver’s seat, shifted into gear, and started the vehicle.

The minibus made a turn and sped away at breakneck speed.

But the shield was expanding faster than anticipated; they had only driven a few hundred meters when the shield had already swallowed the hillside they had been on.

"Faster! Even faster!" Lin Yanqing looked out the rear window, urging loudly.

"This is as fast as it goes!" Li Songyan shouted, pressing the gas pedal to the floor.

The minibus was running at its highest speed ever on the muddy road, but it still couldn’t outrun the black shield.

Lin Yanqing watched the black light closing in, filled with terror.

This was beyond the understanding of the Superpower Special Department, she had never seen such a phenomenon before.

What would happen if they were caught? Lin Yanqing had just thought this when the shield had already drawn the back of the vehicle into its range. She couldn’t see inside the shield but felt as though the back and rear wheels were being bitten off; the minibus instantly lost power and balance, its tail end crashed to the ground with a bang, and the rear split open.

Since the minibus had the engine in the back, without power, Li Songyan could no longer make it move an inch, no matter how much he pressed the gas, they could only continue forward on the momentum they had gained.

The shield devoured more and more, consuming even the road outside the windows.

"Damn, we’re going to die!" Li Songyan cursed. Although the vehicle no longer had an engine, he still subconsciously pressed the gas pedal and held the steering wheel.

Lin Yanqing gripped the railing tightly, nearly sliding into the shield, but fortunately, her right foot braced against the seat, keeping her body from sliding down the slope.

The shield was coming closer and the minibus was already half swallowed by it.

At that moment, the shield suddenly began to fade.

Seconds later, the shield gradually vanished, and the remaining half of the minibus finally came to a stop on the road.

Lin Yanqing lay on the floor, and before her eyes emerged a barren black land. Li Songyan was still in shock. It took him a few seconds to recover, and he then got out of his seat, helped Lin Yanqing up, and the two of them left the minibus.

Looking around, they saw barrenness everywhere, as if the grass and trees had been erased from the face of the earth in an instant, leaving only their roots.

Both tentatively reached out their hands, sensing nothing unusual, then began walking the several-kilometer journey back. An hour later, when they reached the hillside and looked out over Wuliang City, they couldn’t help but gasp.

Where was the city below that mountain? In the midst of the downpour, all that remained was a vast plain of black barren land...

"Turn into a bird and look... Where is Wei Tianyang?!" Li Songyan exclaimed urgently.

Immediately, Lin Yanqing sat down cross-legged, but within a few seconds, she stood up again.

"What did you see?!" Li Songyan asked impatiently.

Lin Yanqing shook her head and said, "There are no birds in the sky. There’s nothing left... The entire city has been..."
