Chapter 946: Chapter 946 Visiting the Scene is So Terrifying
Suizi was startled by his shout.
Instinctively, she looked in Chen Tong’s direction.
Worry was written all over Chen Tong’s face as if he wanted to say something to her.
"Mom, let’s go quickly!" Luoluo, hopping and skipping, tugged at Suizi’s hand.
Suizi withdrew her gaze and followed everyone into the walled enclosure.
Chen Tong ran toward Suizi, but by the time he arrived, Suizi and the others had already passed through the wall and entered the Theater.
Chen Tong let out a sigh of relief, looked up at the wall, and thought, thankfully, not now.
Suizi felt that Chen Tong was acting abnormally and turned her head back in doubt, only to see the twins accidentally bump into a middle-aged man.
"Sorry!" both children apologized together.
The middle-aged man looked kind and benevolent, dressed in a staff uniform, and was holding a large tea jar, probably a staff member of the Theater.
"It’s okay, you two are so cute." The staff member bent down and patted the heads of the two children.
Such charming children would draw anyone’s gaze for a longer look.
Yet, the children seemed surprised, looking at the man hesitantly.
The outgoing Luoluo obviously wanted to say something, but was trying hard to restrain herself.
"Mom, I’m scared..." Luoluo said timidly, tugging at Suizi’s hand.
The man quickly withdrew his hand and said apologetically to Suizi, "I’m sorry, I saw the children were so cute that I couldn’t help myself. Did I scare them?"
"It’s okay..." Suizi gave her maiden an odd look, wondering when she had become so timid.
Once the man had walked away, Suizi gestured to the plump Jiaojiao to lead everyone in to take their seats while she took the boy and girl twins to a secluded spot and squatted down to ask her daughter.
"Luoluo, what happened just now?"
"Mom, that uncle doesn’t seem nice..." Luoluo bit her lip, looking as if she were about to cry, and Bobo wore a similar expression.
"Not nice? Bad luck? Did you see something dark?" Suizi asked.
The twins shook their heads, unable to articulate the sensation, but something felt off.
Suizi furrowed her brow.
For the first time, she realized that the special gifts that came inherently with her blessed children also had side effects.
She patted the heads of the two children, uttered a few soothing words, and led them inside to listen to the opera.
The performance soon began, and the sound of the instruments together with the singing droned out the noise of the wind outside, engrossing the Theater’s audience.
But Suizi was distracted.
She pondered the twins’ unusual behavior earlier; she had never seen them like this before.
What exactly was the matter with that man?
Suddenly, Suizi thought of Chen Tong whom she had met on the road. Could it be related to him?
With that thought, Suizi suddenly lost interest in the show.
Standing up, she excused herself to go to the restroom, asked the older children to look after the group, and walked toward the entrance. She wanted to have a word with the man to find out what the children meant by "not very nice."
At the entrance, a large white tea jar sat on the table, but the man who had been holding it was nowhere to be seen.
As Suizi stepped out of the Theater, a gust of wind blew her way, nearly knocking her over.
The wind was even stronger than before.
There were hardly any pedestrians to be seen on the street, and the trees were swaying wildly in the wind.
Suizi instinctively searched for Chen Tong with her eyes, thinking it was too dangerous for him to be outside by himself in this weather. She wanted to find him and bring him to the safety of the Theater.
The wind grew increasingly fierce, making it difficult for Suizi to move.
The sky filled with yellow sand, reducing visibility even further.
"Chen Tong? Where are you?" Suizi called out repeatedly.
As she searched along the way, she suddenly spotted a figure ahead.
She took a closer look and saw it was the very same uncle from earlier.
He appeared to be unwell, kneeling on one knee on the ground, holding his chest and bowing his head.
"Master! Are you all right?!" Suizi struggled to make her way toward him.
"Medicine..." The master struggled to utter a sound, pointing toward the hospital ahead.
Suizi understood; the master must have realized he was feeling unwell while at the theater, which is why he braved the strong wind to try to get to the hospital.
"I’ll help you over there."
As Suizi tried to help the master up, she found it strenuous due to her limited strength, but fortunately, the master had not completely lost consciousness, and with some effort, she managed to get him up.
The wind howled past their ears, like the roar of a wild beast, interspersed with strange noises.
Suizi couldn’t afford to think too much about it, having just taken a few steps, when suddenly she heard a shout:
"Don’t come here! The wall is going to fall!"
Suizi squinted and peered into the swirling dust, trying to locate the source of the voice; the dust storm obscured her view, but the voice was clearly Chen Tong’s.
"Chen Tong? Where are you, come here!" called out Suizi.
"Don’t get close to the wall, hurry back!" Chen Tong shouted frantically, shuffling towards them.
Suizi couldn’t hear clearly, the strange noise was becoming louder, resembling the sound of bricks and stones breaking.
Suddenly, a huge force pushed her from behind, sending her flying forward, Suizi fell to the ground and witnessed the wall, over two meters high, fold down like a broken foam board.
Standing before her, breathing heavily, was Ma Dong.
Ma Dong had waited inside but came out to look for Suizi when he couldn’t find her.
He saw the wall swaying in the wind and noticed Suizi standing right beneath it; he rushed over and pushed her out of the way.
The wall crashed down, bricks bouncing off the ground.
A numbness spread across Ma Dong’s forehead, which turned into a dull pain after a while, as blood streamed down his face.
He had been struck by a fragment at the temple.
Casually wiping the blood blocking his view with his hand, he said to Suizi, "Let’s get out of here, ’a wise man does not stand under a dangerous wall’!"
"That’s not how you use that saying..." Suizi got up with teary eyes.
She hadn’t expected the boy to rush out to save her, and if it weren’t for Ma Dong, she might have been pinned down right there.
"Are you two all right?" Chen Tong ran over, relieved to see that Suizi and the uncle were unharmed, but he looked bewildered at the sight of Ma Dong’s blood-covered face.
This kid whom he had looked down upon had run faster than him and saved Suizi before he could.
The revelation that this poor kid wasn’t cozying up to Suizi for money completely shook his world.
"Chen Tong, give a hand, let’s quickly move him to a safe place." Suizi was worried that another wall might fall down and hurriedly led the kids to move the man.
When Ma Dong heard this, he also wanted to help, but Chen Tong blocked him with his body.
"You’re injured; let me do it."
He spoke with a hint of sense, prompting Suizi to take a few extra glances at Chen Tong, but she didn’t have time to ponder and focused on getting the man into the theater.
Once inside the theater, Suizi felt a wave of fear as she saw the uncle sprawled in the chair.
The events of today had overturned everything she knew.
Natural disasters were so rare in the north that, having lived two lifetimes, she was witnessing such a catastrophe for the first time—it was terrifying.
"What happened to Old Wang?" Other staff members came up and asked.
"He needs to get to the hospital now," Suizi said, worried, though she had a car, getting there involved passing through the wall, and with the wind outside being so strong, another wall could collapse and hit someone at any moment.
"I have some medicine," Chen Tong pulled out a small glass bottle from his pocket and offered it.
Suizi didn’t take it but simply stared at him deeply, Chen Tong’s mouth cornered in a bitter smile.
"I don’t mean any harm—it’s real medicine. He’s my uncle."
Suizi had felt something odd earlier and, hearing this, it all became clear.
