Chapter 945: Chapter 945: Is It Fated? (Update for 350+ monthly tickets)

Yu Shuisheng still cherished the brotherhood of the past, withdrew his people, compensated the victim’s family out of his own pocket, and thought to settle the matter privately.

But Suizi believed it absolutely should not be done.

"In such cases, even if the authorities sentence him, they wouldn’t sentence him for long, but if you cover for him, there won’t be a problem for now. However, once our family grows bigger and stronger, this matter could be dug up at any time. At that time, it would seem as if our family’s large business is bullying others with its power, and we will never be able to wash it clean," she said.

Influenced by Fan Huang, Suizi had become even more upright than in her previous life. Her father set an example for her and Yu Jingting through his own conduct.

Never use power to oppress others, she thought, as the backlash can cause more harm than the original incident, it’s just a matter of time.

"I’ve been with him so many years, if I send him to prison, what would the other brothers think of me?" Sire also struggled with the decision.

"If it’s inconvenient for you to take action, let Jingting and me handle it. We guarantee to deal with it in a way that no one will be able to fault, and it’s also a good opportunity to intimidate everyone, showing that no matter how meritorious one is, we will not tolerate any violation of our bottom line," Suizi responded.

"My wife is right. You didn’t do anything, and now if you cover for him, when it’s revealed later, it will all be your fault. And the death will be on your conscience," Jingting added.

Before going to university, Yu Jingting, like his father, valued loyalty.

After going to university, he valued principles. This change was brought about by education.

Sire wanted to say something more, but Wang Cuihua grabbed his ear, and thus, Sire had no more desire to speak.

Suizi admired her mother-in-law the most in this regard.

Though not well-educated and straightforward in speech, she had a very kind heart.

Yu Jingting turned out well despite the negative influences, which was a credit to his mother. His father was fortunate to have such a virtuous spouse.

Suizi was an efficient person. The night after discussing it, she and Yu Jingting came up with a plan. As the matter involved a life, it could not be remotely controlled; it had to be handled in person.

Yu Jingting set aside all his business and flew there directly.

Suizi wanted to follow, but she couldn’t leave the school, and she also had to send Grandma Ma away, so she could only let Jingting handle it alone.

Grandma Ma stayed in Beijing for a few days, and once it was confirmed there was no way to alleviate her condition, Suizi took the opportunity while her spirits were still high to have her leisurely mother-in-law take her around various places.

Ma Dong, now knowing the truth, endured the pain in his heart and stayed by Grandma’s side, hoping to ensure that she would have no regrets in her last days.

Grandma Ma, blissfully unaware of the truth, happily followed Wang Cuihua around.

Today, on her day off, Suizi took the initiative to drive Grandma Ma and Ma Dong to listen to the Beijing Opera it was Grandma Ma’s last day in Beijing, and tomorrow she would take Ma Dong back to their hometown.

Suizi had already discussed with Ma Dong that once Grandma Ma passed away, he would transfer schools to come over, according to the doctor, it would be a matter of months.

Granma Ma’s daily medication now included pain relief, and Suizi guessed that her time might come even sooner than the doctors predicted.

"Suizi, does this place cost a lot of money?" Grandma Ma asked.

"My dad’s work unit provided the tickets; they’re free," Suizi answered, holding a stack of tickets in one hand. The benefits at Fan Huang’s work unit were very good.

"My dad can sing opera too, and it’s very nice to listen to," Luoluo, sitting on Ma Dong’s lap in the back seat, proudly said.

Grandma Ma sat in the front seat while Jiaojiao, Bobo, and Ma Dong squeezed into the back seat, with the two little kids sitting on the laps of the bigger children.

Since they were going to listen to an opera today, Suizi had tied two buns in the little girl’s hair, making her small face as pretty as a porcelain doll’s.

Suizi originally wanted to dress her in a set of matching long-sleeved cheongsam, which was hand-made by her aunt and looked very nice.

But the little girl had her own ideas now, choosing her own clothes every day. She insisted on a pink suit with the trendy image of Black Cat Sheriff printed on it.

Suizi found the clothing utterly unattractive. Down the street, eight out of ten kids were wearing the same thing, a tacky shade of pink that seemed so commonplace.

But she couldn’t stand against her daughter’s preference; her own aesthetic leanings were too highbrow to withstand the appeal of going with the flow for the little one.

Little girls always seem to go through a phase where their tastes are unfathomably odd. Suizi didn’t force her daughter to follow her own sense of style, but took more photos of her instead, thinking to let her look back on her own aesthetic choices when she’s older—Yu Jingting teased her for this strange hobby.

"So, can you sing opera?" Ma Dong leaned down and asked Luoluo.

Luoluo was indeed fearless in showing off, she pinched her throat and began to sing ’Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy’ with a bold voice—a specialty of her father’s which the little girl had also picked up.

Her pronunciation and tune were spot-on; it actually sounded rather genuine.

When it came to the duet part, Luoluo nudged Bobo, who was in Jiaojiao’s arms, signaling that it was her brother’s turn to sing.

Bobo turned his head out the window, pretending not to see his sister’s cues.

Luoluo then kicked her brother’s leg, but Bobo didn’t turn to look at her; instead, he moved his head back with practiced ease and bumped against Luoluo’s forehead with the back of his skull.

Luoluo, stubborn and strong-willed, started butting heads with her brother.

"You two, behave yourselves," Jiaojiao intervened. If she didn’t step in now, the two kids would end up fighting.

"Mom! Brother is ignoring me!" Luoluo started to tattle.

"I am not! I’m admiring the scenery!" Bobo retorted stubbornly, though he was thinking he didn’t want to perform his talents in front of so many people; he preferred to be the cool kid.

"Oh? What did you see?" Suizi went along with her son’s distraction.

"The wind outside is so strong, it’s making the signs sway," he replied.

"Yeah, why is the wind so strong?" Suizi also felt that the weather was a bit unusual.

There had been a bit of wind when they left home, but she hadn’t paid much attention to it.

Beijing was located downwind from the desert, so it wasn’t uncommon for there to be windy days, but they were usually more frequent in spring and winter.

The wind started to pick up halfway through their drive, inflating pedestrians’ clothing, and such strong winds in autumn were indeed rare.

"Hopefully, the wind will stop by the time we finish watching the opera," Jiaojiao said, gazing at the sallow sky, feeling somewhat uneasy.

Little Pudge was about to compete, and Suizi had brought him along hoping he would relax before the competition and not be nervous.

Suizi even thought that once they arrived at the theater, she would request the Beijing Opera ’The Dragon Raises Its Head’ to bring good luck to Little Pudge and to ward off any negative energy for Grandma Ma.

At this point, there wasn’t much else they could do—other than find some comfort in hopeful thoughts, the triumph of spirit, and self-reassurance.

The cars were unable to pass in front of the theater, so they had to park on the previous street and walk through a surrounding wall to get into the theater.

After parking the car, Suizi led everyone toward the theater, when Luoluo suddenly pointed ahead.

"Chen Tong!"

Suizi followed her gaze and saw Chen Tong standing alone on the curb, looking nervous and peering around as if trying to spot something.

Suizi frowned; she hadn’t mentioned her plans for the day to anyone, so this should be a chance encounter.

Just as she was about to pretend not to see him, Chen Tong had already seen her. Upon spotting Suizi, his expression suddenly became tense. Seeing that Suizi was ignoring him and walking towards the wall, Chen Tong suddenly shouted out loud:

"Don’t!"
