I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 87: Suizi Is Leaving

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Suizi Is Leaving

Yu Jingting was unfamiliar with the visitor, who didn’t seem to be from the neighborhood, so he asked:

"What do you do?"

Suizi recognized the man with glasses, her memory struggled to place him.

"Professor Wang?" Suizi stood up.

He had been her teacher in vocational school, during an era when even such schools had professors. Professor Wang had taken really good care of Suizi.

"Chen Hansui! I finally found you!" Upon seeing Suizi, he stepped forward with a joy that he could hardly contain.

He had found his way here by following the address given in her file. He had lost his way several times on his journey through the outskirts, especially in the snow.

"What brings you here?"

"I came to you with important matters."

Suizi didn’t dare dawdle, and since she had just finished her work, she invited Professor Wang home to talk.

Yu Jingting accompanied her on her way home, helping her on particularly rough patches of the road.

"Is this your cousin?" In Suizi’s files, she was listed as an only child.

"He’s my husband."

"What?!" Professor Wang looked at Yu Jingting’s fierce appearance, then back at his former pupil. They seemed mismatched.

"Chen Hansui, have you encountered any difficulties?" For instance, had she been forced into a marriage?

Yu Jingting glared at Professor Wang, who found his comments discomforting.

Already fierce, when he stared, he radiated a particularly terrifying aura. Professor Wang, unaccustomed to such behavior, found his legs turning to jelly.

"We grew up together, marrying him was a natural progression."

Suizi held Yu Jingting’s arm, diffusing some of his intimidating presence.

They arrived at the Yu family home.

Professor Wang noticed the neat and well-kept Yu family home, though rural, it bore the hallmark of people who knew how to live.

Witnessing Wang Cuihua’s affection for Suizi, he noticed how she brought out her best tea leaves for the guest, it seemed Suizi was well regarded here.

With his worries dissipated, he was invited to sit on the heated brick bed, hot tea and warmth soon erased the fatigue of the journey. After exchanging pleasantries, Professor Wang disclosed his intentions.

"I’m here to discuss Chen Hansui’s residency status and employment options."

The Yu Family was perplexed, and Suizi was caught off guard.

"Didn’t my daughter-in-law lose her job?" Wang Cuihua asked.

"Well, Chen Hansui was supposed to be assigned a job after graduation, but she fell ill. Then she lost contact with the school..."

This situation was unprecedented.

Graduates from key vocational schools were typically assigned jobs, often with cadre appointments.

The placement resolved the issue of urban residency, changing her status of household registration from rural to urban. Suizi was stuck at this crucial crossroads. Since she didn’t receive any work points in the countryside, she needed to secure her urban residency.

Suizi had been thinking about the matter earlier while splitting money with others.

She was planning to resolve the issue of her resident registration after the New Year, and now the school had dispatched someone.

"Chen Hansui is one of the most talented students I have ever taught, and her mother is my junior sister. Therefore, it’s important to solve her employment problem."

"Professor Wang, are you saying my mother is your... junior sister?" Suizi hadn’t known this, even in her past life.

Professor Wang nodded.

"We used to study art under the same master, then we were separated during re-education in the countryside, and lost contact for many years. We ran into each other recently, and she asked about you. That’s when I learnt you were her daughter."

Suizi clenched her fists, her body tense. Her face grew paler by the second.

Yu Jingting rushed to lay his hand on her shoulder, his pressure seeping through her coat to calm her impending breakdown.

He knew she hated it when people brought up her mother. It was a painful knot in her heart, which she was unable to untangle.

Professor Wang, oblivious to Suizi’s emotional state, continued on his own:

"The city has decided to establish a part-time vocational school for workers after the New Year. The teachers will be sourced from full-time schools and teach part-time. We need a director for our academic department. You will be in charge of organizing teaching tasks and also teaching."

This part-time vocational school translates to night school.

It’s an era of economic transition, and due to special circumstances in the past, many people missed out on receiving education.

Now with general education being promoted, such schools are being established everywhere. Factories send their workers with tuition fees paid in full.

The curriculum includes primary and high school contents, English language, Russian language etc. Upon graduation, certificates are also issued which hold recognition.

The level of this night school is slightly lower than the high school Li Youcai went to, but as per Professor Wang, Suizi would be the academic director – a cadre.

This means that, in comparison to the job Li Youcai was assigned before, her position seems much better.

Being a cadre means that in the future there is room for further professional growth. Even if the night school doesn’t exist in the future, she would still be laterally transferred to another place.

For someone in her class, this is certainly an excellent route.

But Suizi couldn’t bring herself to be happy.

If this were achieved through her own abilities, it would have made her a little happy.

The moment she realizes that this is a result of her mother pulling strings, her heart feels upset. What is this? A sweet jujube after a slap?

"The school is still in the planning stage, I came by to notify you. If you’re willing, I can take your file and transfer your registration there. After the New Year, you can come and report."

Professor Wang felt that Suizi won’t refuse such an opportunity. Even if it’s a key vocational school, the cadre quota is limited. Who would refuse such an opportunity, especially after missing the allocation period?

"I want to–" Suizi was about to refuse when Wang Cuihua, faster than her, stole her words.

"If my daughter-in-law goes to work in the city, what about my son?"

"The school arranges dormitories for teaching staff, he can move to the city with her. Later, we’ll try to arrange a job for him as well - Have you two, sorted things out with Lijun?"

Professor Wang looked up and down, he couldn’t believe that Yu Jingting would be someone his junior sister would choose as her son-in-law.

He remembered his junior sister saying she wanted to choose a suitable match for Suizi among university teachers.

Her exact words were - Suizi is too timid, so she must find a refined son-in-law. This fierce-looking man in front of her didn’t seem refined at all, did he?

"When I got married, I didn’t need her consent. As long as I think he’s good, that’s all that matters." Suizi said coldly.

She was now furious.

"Ah, that’s great, my son has nothing to do at home anyway, always playing with the cats and dogs - It would be good if he found something to do in the city." Wang Cuihua thought it was an excellent opportunity.

Professor Wang was adjusting his glasses as usual. Hearing this, he was so surprised that his glasses slid up his forehead.

He was always playing with the cats and dogs... Wasn’t that just a good-for-nothing? The description matched the individual!

"May I consider this matter?" Suizi didn’t make an immediate commitment.

Although emotionally, she was very resistant to her mother’s arrangements, and wished to sever all connections with her definitively out of dignity.

Yet, Professor Wang’s idea of "taking Yu Jingting to the city" was too appealing to Suizi.
