I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 836 We Don’t Owe Him Anymore

Chapter 836: Chapter 836 We Don’t Owe Him Anymore

Suizi had just reached for the light cord when she heard a massive explosion.

The noise startled Yu Jingting awake from the bed.

"What’s the matter?" Yu Jingting asked Suizi, his reaction much faster than hers, immediately sensing something was wrong.

"Damn, why is there so much smoke?"

Only then did Suizi realize that what had been clouding her vision was smoke drifting in from the outside.

"Is it on fire?" Suizi asked in a panic.

Without answering, Yu Jingting rushed to the bathroom, soaked a towel in water, and came back out, tossing it to Suizi, signaling her to cover her mouth and nose.

The couple was on the second floor, which had many rooms, and theirs was at the very end.

Yu Jingting opened the door and took a glance; the corridor was full of smoke, with flames visible at the far end.

"The main entrance is probably no good to get out."

Suizi scrambled to put clothes on her body. The two of them had been quite active before bed and were without clothes on.

Yu Jingting tried to open the window, which had been specially treated so that it would only open a small crack, not big enough for a person to crawl through.

"Should we rush out wrapped in a quilt?" Suizi asked.

Suizi remembered that in such a fire, you should cover your mouth and nose, and you could wrap yourself in a wet quilt.

"Wait in the room for me. I’ll go take a look," Yu Jingting said, showing a seriousness far removed from his usual jesting demeanor, giving Suizi a great sense of security in an emergency.

As soon as he left, Suizi quickly slung their valuable bags over her shoulder.

Screams and cries for help reached her ears, making Suizi’s heart flutter with anxiety for Yu Jingting, and just as she thought of going out to look for him, he returned.

"Don’t go out that way; the fire started from the first floor, the first floor is likely a Sea of Fire now. We’ll have to climb out the window."

With that said, he wedged keys between his fingers and started smashing at the tempered glass. Although the glass was reinforced, it still cracked slightly under such strong force.

With this crack, it was much easier. Yu Jingting took a chair and smashed it forcefully against the glass, while Suizi quickly tied sheets together.

The couple already had an understanding, and as the temperature grew higher, Suizi looked at the back of Yu Jingting, who was busy smashing the glass. His hand was cut by the shards, bleeding, but he paid no attention.

In times of danger, his first thought was always to take care of Suizi.

Suizi’s nose felt a bit sour.

With a loud bang, Yu Jingting finally broke the glass completely and began to deal with the small shards, without forgetting to turn back and check on his wife’s emotions.

"Scared?"

Although Suizi’s hands didn’t stop tying the sheets, she was softly sobbing all along.

"Jingting, have I ever told you that I love you very much?"

"When have you not? You’ve yelled it plenty in bed. We can save those words for later, to say slowly."

Yu Jingting took the sheet she passed to him, tested the window frame to make sure it was secure, and then carefully tied it on.

"I’ll go down first and protect you, then loop aroundto see if there is anyone else trapped on this floor." Yu Jingting helped Suizi to the window ledge and watched as she slid down the sheet.

"Be sure to be safe!" Suizi called out to him from the ground.

In reality, she wanted Yu Jingting to come down immediately, but he had already rushed back in.

The two minutes of waiting felt unbearably long to Suizi.

Fire engines had already arrived, and firefighters came over to instruct Suizi to evacuate. The first floor was on fire, making the place where Suizi stood unsafe.

Suizi could only step back a few paces, waiting for news from Yu Jingting.

Another half a minute later, an elderly couple slid down the sheet that Suizi had let down. Suizi saw Yu Jingting guarding the old man, then turning and rushing back in, which made Suizi cry out in desperation.

"Jingting! Come back!"

Yu Jingting just waved his hand, indicating that he was okay, then his figure disappeared around the corner of the window.

Unable to help herself, Suizi covered her face and began to cry.

She knew her man was a towering figure, but at this moment, she wished he could be a little selfish.

There came a loud explosion from above, as if something had detonated.

Suizi’s heart skipped a beat.

The elderly couple who had descended were a man in his sixties and a younger woman. Based on their attire, they were not from the mainland, and they spoke with a Hong Kong or Taiwan accent.

"The young man who just saved people, who is he to you?" the old man asked, clearly agitated.

But the young woman beside him wore a look of displeasure, as if she didn’t want to answer the question.

"He’s my husband," Suizi replied unconsciously.

Her eyes fixed on the window, she couldn’t wait any longer.

"Where is your husband from? What’s his surname? What other family does he have?" the elderly man asked urgently.

Suizi had no mind to listen to what he was saying; his words sounded like a meaningless buzz to her.

All her thoughts were on Yu Jingting.

She snatched the firefighter’s mask and ran toward the bedsheets, reckless. She wanted to climb up, to see Yu Jingting.

Concern had short-circuited all her reason.

She didn’t care about the danger, she just needed to see Yu Jingting, to see that he was safe.

"You crazy girl! Don’t be reckless!" Yu Jingting was carrying someone on his back, about to jump, when he saw his usually intelligent wife clinging to the bedsheets like a koala, clumsily climbing up.

For every meter she climbed, she slipped back half a meter, exuding a silly charm.

"Jingting!!!" Suizi shouted excitedly when she saw him.

"Get that woman out of here!" Yu Jingting, seeing flames spewing from the window below, worried they might burn Suizi, so he yelled at the firefighters.

Two young men dragged Suizi away as Yu Jingting descended the building with the unconscious man on his back.

Just as he got down, the glass on the first floor exploded, and two shards pierced into Yu Jingting’s back.

He had been too busy with the escape from the Sea of Fire to wear a vest.

Wearing only boxers, his upper body was bare, and the shards drew blood that flowed freely.

Seeing him injured, Suizi rushed over, trembling hands uncertain whether to touch him.

Her lips could only murmur, "Does it hurt?"

"How could it not hurt?! My head hurts seeing you acting so foolishly. I told you to run far away, and there you were, trying to climb up?"

Yu Jingting, having set the man down, was about to scold Suizi, but seeing her cry like a spring rain, his heart softened again.

Gently embracing her, his hand soothingly stroked down her back.

"It’s alright, brother has everything under control. Look, who did I save?"

Following his gaze, Suizi realized that the person lying on the ground was actually Que Wuyu.

Que Wuyu, because he was kept awake by the noise from Suizi’s room—phrases like "What, I can’t keep it down? Honey, you are so big"—was so annoyed that he took two sleeping pills to sleep.

And because of that, he slept too deeply.

Yu Jingting had knocked on his door without waking him, and it was only when Yu Jingting carried him out that he avoided dying inside.

"We don’t owe him anything now, understand?" Yu Jingting kicked the awakening Que Wuyu, but his eyes were looking at Suizi.

Suizi always said she owed Que Wuyu from a past life, and now, wasn’t that debt repaid?

From now on, of course, she should stay as far away from him as possible.

Suizi did not bother to look at Que Wuyu, sparing him only a glance before dragging Yu Jingting away. She needed to quickly get medicine to treat his wounds.

Que Wuyu lay in a mess on the ground, windblown and disordered.

The old man, whom Yu Jingting had saved, stared intently at Yu Jingting’s bloodied back.

More accurately, at the heart-shaped birthmark on his back, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
