I am chasing a rough man in the 80s -
Chapter 721: Meeting Again
Chapter 721: Chapter 721: Meeting Again
Suizi was a woman of action. Once she sensed something was amiss, she swiftly swung into action.
She pulled out an old, seldom-used sketch board and pencil from her closet, set up an easel, and brewed a pot of chrysanthemum tea.
This grand show of activity attracted the attention of her three children and her husband Tiegen, who was essentially just a big child himself.
A few people gathered around and Suizi seized the opportunity to deliver a mini lecture.
"I encourage you all to pursue a special skill, even if you might not need it for your future careers. For example, Jiaojiao, you play the piano, but you might not become a pianist in the future. I used to paint when I was young, and although I didn’t become a painter, look how it’s coming in handy now!"
"When did you ever paint as a kid? I recall that mom never taught you..." Yu Jingting, her husband, pointedly commented on his wife’s little fabrication.
Suizi glared at him. She was trying to teach the children a lesson and he was interrupting her?
"Cultivating a special skill nurtures confidence and perseverance. It also helps build emotional resilience. With these foundational qualities, you’ll have an underlying strength in everything you do."
"Is this how you were tricked by those extracurricular activities teachers? Those ignorant parents were easily fooled into handing over their money, not even considering if their child has the aptitude and wasting their time... haha... cough... but of course, mom is always right."
Yu Jingting, who’d inadvertently spoken a few words of truth, was given a harsh glare by his wife. If looks could kill, he’d already have been sliced as thin as lamb slices by Suizi’s stare.
"Parents who waste their time and money are the ones who fail to observe their children’s abilities or interests and randomly choose an activity. Our children, however, are all gifted and worth nurturing! They are the future of our country, the hope of our nation, so we can’t afford to let them slip through our hands!"
Suizi glared at Yu Jingting fiercely, warning him that if he dared to argue, it would be equivalent to trampling on the children’s dreams, an unforgivable act.
Yu Jingting had a feeling that if he continued to talk nonsense, his wife would sketch countless pictures on paper, write his name on each of them, and stab them with a pin.
"She gets so worked up when it comes to educating the children..." Yu Jingting muttered under his breath.
He was reminded of the mother cats in their village, who’d lead their kittens everywhere, meowing incessantly after them. Maternal instincts were truly frightening, he thought to himself.
"Alright, do whatever you want. I’ll take the kids out to play so that we won’t disturb you while you make your contribution to the nation."
Yu Jingting, afraid of his wife’s wrath, sheepishly led their three children outside.
He gave Jiaojiao some money to buy ice cream and specifically told her to avoid Chen Lijun’s house.
Chen Lijun was off work today. Considering she must be craving various foods in the house, it would risk provoking trouble if they crossed paths.
After offering Suizi the ice cream, Yu Jingting discovered a large rock in their backyard. It provided perfect cover for him and the children to enjoy their ice creams in secret.
"Jiaojiao, you keep watch for us," Yu Jingting assigned roles.
"But won’t that look more obvious if I stand there eating?" Jiaojiao questioned.
"What don’t you understand? Catching you eating alone is different from catching all of us together," Yu Jingting said. Having been caught eating crabs behind his mother-in-law’s back before, he was being particularly cautious this time around.
They posted Jiaojiao as the lookout near the entrance while Yu Jingting and the children hid behind the rock, confident that Suizi wouldn’t suddenly appear like last time.
Upon reaching the rock, Yu Jingting fell silent.
"Grandma!"
Little Luobo rushed enthusiastically towards Chen Lijun, who was squatting behind the stone.
Before she could even spit out the chili pickled chicken feet in her mouth, which made her look like she had grown fangs, and on a plate beside her was a few dishes of pickles. Whatever Suizi banned, she’d find a way to have it; Yu Jingting even noticed stinky tofu...
As though trying to appear health conscious amidst all the junk food, she had also placed a bottle of milk nearby.
So there they were, a bunch of people with ice cream in their hands, facing a pregnant lady sneaking food. Both sides were at an impasse, making for an extremely awkward moment.
"If you dare tell Suizi, I will..." Chen Lijun gestured a threatening move.
"Do you really think I’m like that?" Yu Jingting was keen to show that he wasn’t the kind of person to betray his mother-in-law.
He would never tell Suizi.
But he might inform his father-in-law...
A food-craving pregnant woman was horrific to behold, especially when she discarded her upper-class demeanor, sneaking into a deserted corner to snack. Imagining how his father-in-law would react upon hearing this, Yu Jingting was tempted to rub his hands together in glee.
It was more exciting than a TV drama!
"I’m not usually like this; my coworkers bought me these snacks and I didn’t want to waste them..." Chen Lijun tried hard to save face in front of her grandchildren.
"Grandma, have a bite?" Luoluo held up the ice cream to Chen Lijun’s mouth.
Even the child could see that her grandma really wanted to take a bite.
Chen Lijun tried to hold back her tears. Thinking about how considerate her grandchild was, she was about to have a bite when Yu Jingting suddenly spoke
"Who is Jiaojiao talking to?"
Upon hearing his words, Luoluo immediately rushed over to join her father, peering through a small hole from behind the stone.
Missing the chance to taste the ice cream, Chen Lijun watched as the ice cream in Luoluo’s hand moved away from her. She could barely hold back her tears. In her frustration, she too peered through the hole in curiosity, wondering which pregnant lady was causing such a commotion, and hindering her from eating her ice cream.
From their appearance alone, it was evident that the whole family was hiding behind a large artificial mountain stone brought from elsewhere, which was about nine and a half feet long and four feet high. It provided excellent cover for the family.
Peering through a small hole in the artificial stone, Yu Jingting saw Jiaojiao having a chat with a pregnant woman. Jiaojiao kept shaking her hands as the pregnant woman seemed increasingly agitated, grabbing Jiaojiao’s wrist.
"It’s the woman Mom was sketching." Bobo observed.
Bobo was the one tasked with giving the ice cream to his mother. He saw the half-finished portrait his mom was working on. Despite only being a preliminary sketch, the basic features were visible.
"Are you sure?" Yu Jingting asked his son, unsure whether there was enough time to rush back home and alert Suizi.
Bobo nodded affirmatively. Ever since his mom told him that his gift was not abnormal and could potentially save many lives, his confidence had grown substantially.
Hearing his son’s words, Yu Jingting didn’t hesitate. He quickly dashed off in Jiaojiao’s direction.
Jiaojiao was about fifty meters away from him. When Yu Jingting sprang into action, the pregnant woman had already pulled out a handkerchief and attempted to cover Jiaojiao’s nose and mouth.
"Brother!!!" Jiaojiao struggled powerfully.
Being tall for her age and full of the energy of a teenager, Jiaojiao shoved the pregnant woman back. Seeing Yu Jingting charging towards her, the pregnant woman turned and tried to run despite her large belly.
Even Suizi, a woman who kept in shape, could not outrun Yu Jingting; the pregnant woman had even less chance.
Yu Jingting caught up to her within strides, grabbing hold of her arm and scolded fiercely,
"Don’t move!"
All of a sudden, the woman collapsed to the ground like a boneless heap. She clutched her stomach and cried out,
"Help! Somebody help me!"
A few elderly men playing chess at the entrance of the alley turned their heads upon hearing the commotion. One of them asked,
"Jingting, what’s going on?"
"He’s a bad guy, he tried to molest me and pushed my stomach... he pushed me...my stomach hurts... I’m about to miscarry...he’s the culprit!"
