Chapter 702: Chapter 702: The Shoe Has Finally Dropped (600+ monthly tickets)

Luoluo tossed the medicine onto the ground and Bobo came over to step on it a few more times.

The white pills were flattened by his little feet.

Suizi frowned at the sight, displeased.

Although these two babies were usually mischievous, they had never been so rude and unmeasured.

"Come here, explain why you did this?" Suizi suppressed her urge to give these little rascals a few swats on their bottoms.

"If mommy is throwing up, she has a baby. Anyone who has a baby cannot take medicine." Luoluo nodded in a scholarly manner, his tiny hand still resting on Chen Lijun’s belly, "There’s a little brother in here."

"Yup, what he said." Bobo simplifies.

"How do you know there’s a little brother? And according to seniority, you shouldn’t be calling him a little brother." Suizi asked.

Luoluo tilted his head to look at his mom.

"I just saw it."

Yu Jingting remembered then.

"What sort of nonsense has Jiaojiao been watching with you on TV?"

Tv shows where women spit up and then are pregnant, have taught the children.

"When we go back home, educate them properly. Don’t let them learn from the nonsense on TV." Suizi said to Yu Jingting.

"Why should I do the education?"

"If a son isn’t taught, the father is to blame. Since when have you heard that if a son isn’t taught, the mother is to blame?"

Seeing Fan Huang about to take more medicine, Suizi suddenly remembered Ge Mingyue.

"Dad, stop it. I am going to take mom to the hospital for a check-up when we are done here."

"Are you also being influenced to act like an idiot by TV dramas?" Chen Lijun wanted to remind her how old she was, but just then, Chen’s mother appeared, followed by Ge Mingyue. Seeing Ge Mingyue, Chen Lijun’s face sank and she lost her humor.

Following her gaze, and catching on to her train of thought, Suizi said:

"My grandpa is nearing seventy and still manages to stir up drama. Ge Mingyue is already forty-five, yet she still managed to scheme some money out of us while pregnant. You’re not even as old as she is... anything’s possible."

At that remark, Fan Huang shot upright, and Chen Lijun’s eyes widened, everyone’s attention suddenly drawn to her stomach.

Chen Lijun stood, shot a glare at Fan Huang, and turned to leave without a word.

Fan Huang tried to follow, but was caught by several elders who had just arrived, wanting to catch up with him.

Being held up by casual chatter, Fan Huang could not simply abandon these people. He could only send Suizi a desperate look for help. Suizi, being the thoughtful person she was, handed the kids to Yu Jingting and went after Chen Lijun.

Chen Lijun, who had felt sick in the room, stepped outside and into the wind, and she couldn’t hold it in, bending over to retch.

Suizi quickly followed, pulling out a clean handkerchief for her.

"You shut up now, keep any problems to yourself, and don’t speak to me. I need some peace." Chen Lijun said, wiping her mouth, beating Suizi to speech.

Suizi mimed zipping her lips shut, showing that she would stay silent, then pulled out her car keys, opened the door and helped Chen Lijun inside.

"You can drive?!" Chen Lijun exclaimed.

Suizi made the OK sign, revved the engine - and off they went!

"Damn! She doesn’t even have a driver’s license!!!" Yu Jingting, holding the kids, only caught a glimpse of the car’s exhaust as it sped off.

By the time Chen Lijun heard, it was too late. Suizi had already driven off. Initially tense, Chen Lijun relaxed as she realized her daughter was driving steadily, and simply reclined in her seat, eyes closed.

Suizi glanced sideways at her from the corner of her eye and moved her lips minutely.

Dealing with such a sharp woman was demanding; she’d thought to perhaps scare her mother with her driving into opening up a bit more.

For instance, her mother might ask "When did you even learn to drive?"

Then she could chat away and subtly shift the topic onto her mother’s stomach.

But now the woman was silent. This left Suizi without an opening to delve deeper into conversation.

At the hospital, Suizi registered Chen Lijun for Ob-Gyn. After paying, she turned around to find Chen Lijun had disappeared.

When she found her, Chen Lijun was leaning against a tree, taking out a pack of cigarettes.

Suizi rushed over and snatched the pack out of her hands.

"You can’t smoke."

"I didn’t give you permission to speak."

"That gag order only works on my dad, I don’t care what you say. Let’s go get your tests done."

"I’m not going."

This irked Suizi. Why was her mother acting just as petulantly as her kids when they were avoiding their medication?

"What’s troubling you now? If you’re pregnant, then have the baby. Our family can support it. If you’re not up for raising the child, I will. If you don’t feel like doing the teaching, I will. After all, no matter if it’s one sheep or three, you have to herd them all the same."

"You already hire a nanny to help you and here you say you’d help me?"

"The nanny can take care of their basic needs. Anything that can be solved with money isn’t a problem. It’s education that I’m concerned with. I raised Jiaojiao and the twins, you’ve seen how well they turned out."

"It’s not a certain I’m pregnant. You’re talking as if it’s a done deal." Chen Lijun scoffed, then a realization struck, "Why do I feel like you’re acting like my mother and I am your maiden?"

Those elders pushing their children to have babies, were all of the same character as Suizi.

"I too wish to live like a young person, but what can one do when their mother is such a gem? You never grew up, so how was I to stay immature? Who will dote on you if not my father and me?"

Chen Lijun was amused by Suizi and her antics. If Suizi wasn’t annoying her, she really was quite loving.

"Let’s go. It’s meaningless to fret over this here by ourselves. Let’s go in and get checked. What if you aren’t pregnant? Or are you scared? You’re hesitating more than my kids when they get their vaccinations. I’ll tell them their grandmother is a coward."

The thought of losing face worked wonders on Chen Lijun. And with those incentivizing words, Suizi managed to persuade her into the hospital.

After a while, a kindly doctor smilingly announced the good news.

"Congratulations, you are pregnant...can you keep it?"

The latter half of the sentence seemed to hurt Chen Lijun, and she flinched.

"Doctor, what did you mean by ’keep it’? Can’t she carry to term because of her health?" Suizi asked seriously.

Although she had always felt that it would be better if her mother had another child, if it harmed her mother’s health, then she would rather not.

"Oh, I was referring to the policy. There’s no problem with her body. Does her work unit allow for two children?"

Chen Lijun looked youthful and it was hard to guess her age. Seeing her stylish clothes and regal bearing, the doctor assumed she was not an ordinary worker and further inquired.

Current policy is strict, and those who do not meet the criteria are not allowed to have a second child, or else they could lose their jobs.

"She is within policy, she can have a second child. What I’m concerned about now is whether her body can stand it. Isn’t anyone over thirty-five considered an elderly pregnant woman?"

"Yes, indeed. Over forty is considered a high-risk elderly pregnant woman, and we generally discourage it. But we have many cases like that in our hospital. With proper precautions, risks can be minimized. Has she had a physical examination recently?"

"Every year. The liver and kidneys are all normal. The male side also has annual physical examinations, everything is very normal. What else do we need to pay attention to? You tell me."

Suizi took a small notebook out of her bag, ready to take notes.

Compared to the excited Suizi, Chen Lijun, the person at the heart of the matter, seemed to have been struck by lightning. Remaining seated with a blank expression, she seemed unable to accept the news.
