Suizi caught a whiff of danger from Yu Jingting’s reactions. Her nostrils twitched slightly, carrying a scent of ripe fruit which was reminiscent of her mother.

While Suizi was still slowly turning it over in her mind, Yu Jingting reacted first. He set down the box he was holding, pulled her into his embrace, and caught the slap that Chen Lijun aimed for Suizi’s shoulder on his own back.

"How dare you, Chen Hansui, talk about me and your father behind our backs?"

Suizi shrank into Yu Jingting’s hold, who hugged her tighter, offering her his full protection.

"The child was being playful, and here you are taking it seriously?" Fan Huang’s voice came from behind, causing Suizi to shudder.

Is this some sort of summoning? She just managed to gather her parents.

"Dad, you’re supposed to be resting at home. Why did you come out?" Suizi peeked out, shrunk back in upon receiving a glare from Chen Lijun.

"Hmm, just wanted a walk outside. Can’t get any sun at home and been idle for so long that I’m afraid of growing sweet potato leaves on my head." Fan Huang said in a gentle voice.

Suizi felt like crying, knowing that the cunning old man was still holding a grudge. Oh, what a poor thing she was.

One moment of enjoyment from speaking out, and the next of getting burnt by the crematorium.

The in-laws took the kids out for a stroll and hadn’t returned home yet. Meanwhile, Suizi changed into her home clothes, apron included, and headed straight for Fan Huang’s house with some vegetables in her arms.

Working away in the kitchen, she cooked several dishes that Chen Lijun and Fan Huang liked. Between her sweet smiles and her waving of culinary compliments, along with Yu Jingting’s playful banter on the side, Chen Lijun finally managed a smile.

"What on earth did you guys do that made my husband so mad?"

The kids hadn’t even returned when the complaint came in over the phone. Chen’s father shouted so loudly that Chen Lijun’s eardrums were ringing, apparently, he was quite angry.

"No big deal, really. Jingting was quite restrained today, he didn’t even hit anyone. You told him not to, so he didn’t. Jingting is a man of principle."

"There’s no love in this house. I’m going back to my mother’s house."

Suizi was immediately silenced by her mother’s words. She obediently sat back down, started calmly eating her steamed white rice, looking like a pitiful little thing.

Fan Huang gave Suizi a rib coated with goji berries.

"Don’t always tease the child. Suizi looks thinner these days, let her eat more goji berries."

"Thank you, Dad~"

"Goji berries are very nutritious, they are also good when cooked with sweet potato leaves."

This mother and daughter always argue when they meet. Yu Jingting and Fan Huang were used to it, letting them fight while the two men started another discussion.

Next month was Chen Lijun’s birthday, that coincides with their marriage. Fan Huang planned to book a few tables, inviting only close family and friends. This planning led to conflict and disagreement.

Fan Huang didn’t want to make it too grand as his status may invite some unwanted guests bearing gifts, hoping to build relationships. However, he didn’t want the celebration to be too simple either, as it would not show his respect for Chen Lijun.

Chen Lijun, on the other hand, was averse to the trouble and didn’t want to hold the celebration at all.

The two disagreed on this topic with neither side willing to give in, and the matter was making no progress at all.
