I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 653: Must Go On Despite the Difficulties

Chapter 653: Chapter 653: Must Go On Despite the Difficulties

Suizi caught a whiff of danger from Yu Jingting’s reactions. Her nostrils twitched slightly, carrying a scent of ripe fruit which was reminiscent of her mother.

While Suizi was still slowly turning it over in her mind, Yu Jingting reacted first. He set down the box he was holding, pulled her into his embrace, and caught the slap that Chen Lijun aimed for Suizi’s shoulder on his own back.

"How dare you, Chen Hansui, talk about me and your father behind our backs?"

Suizi shrank into Yu Jingting’s hold, who hugged her tighter, offering her his full protection.

"The child was being playful, and here you are taking it seriously?" Fan Huang’s voice came from behind, causing Suizi to shudder.

Is this some sort of summoning? She just managed to gather her parents.

"Dad, you’re supposed to be resting at home. Why did you come out?" Suizi peeked out, shrunk back in upon receiving a glare from Chen Lijun.

"Hmm, just wanted a walk outside. Can’t get any sun at home and been idle for so long that I’m afraid of growing sweet potato leaves on my head." Fan Huang said in a gentle voice.

Suizi felt like crying, knowing that the cunning old man was still holding a grudge. Oh, what a poor thing she was.

One moment of enjoyment from speaking out, and the next of getting burnt by the crematorium.

The in-laws took the kids out for a stroll and hadn’t returned home yet. Meanwhile, Suizi changed into her home clothes, apron included, and headed straight for Fan Huang’s house with some vegetables in her arms.

Working away in the kitchen, she cooked several dishes that Chen Lijun and Fan Huang liked. Between her sweet smiles and her waving of culinary compliments, along with Yu Jingting’s playful banter on the side, Chen Lijun finally managed a smile.

"What on earth did you guys do that made my husband so mad?"

The kids hadn’t even returned when the complaint came in over the phone. Chen’s father shouted so loudly that Chen Lijun’s eardrums were ringing, apparently, he was quite angry.

"No big deal, really. Jingting was quite restrained today, he didn’t even hit anyone. You told him not to, so he didn’t. Jingting is a man of principle."

Suizi responded cleverly.

High EQ: Didn’t hit anyone, very restrained

Low EQ: Did everything but hit

"The last time my old man was this angry was at the train station - ah, also a record set by Jingting."

Chen Lijun felt her son-in-law was quite the character.

Her old man who had been playing it cool all his life, has completely fallen because of Yu Jingting.

"He cares about his dignity so much, you humiliated him in front of so many people by messing with his hair. Now he’ll probably be mad for several days - how did you even figure out that he cared so much about his hair?"

"I can’t exactly say why, I just had a feeling." When it came to annoying people, Yu Jingting had a distinct knack for it.

"You’ve done a good job today, I’ll reward you with a piece of meat." Chen Lijun served Yu Jingting a piece of meat. Suizi’s mouth was almost dropping to the floor.

"There’s no love in this house. I’m going back to my mother’s house."

"Do you want to lose the motorcycle?"

Suizi was immediately silenced by her mother’s words. She obediently sat back down, started calmly eating her steamed white rice, looking like a pitiful little thing.

Fan Huang gave Suizi a rib coated with goji berries.

"Don’t always tease the child. Suizi looks thinner these days, let her eat more goji berries."

"Thank you, Dad~"

"Goji berries are very nutritious, they are also good when cooked with sweet potato leaves."

"....." Is he really still mad about the sweet potato comment? Suizi complained in her heart, vowing not to cross her dad again. He’s really petty.

"Dad, is there currently a discussion about restructuring in the higher-ups?" Suizi took the opportunity to ask.

"Why would you suddenly ask that?" Fan Huang asked, "Did someone put this into your ear?"

"Just me being curious." Suizi had known the answer for a long time. She was just probing her old man and going through the motions by asking Fan Huang.

"Indeed, there has been some talk about this issue. However, it will still require time and research to see if it can actually be implemented. If someone asks you, you should say the same thing."

Fan Huang didn’t give Suizi a definite answer. He only repeated what had already been reported in the news.

As for what wasn’t reported in the news, he knew in his heart but didn’t put into words.

"She’s scheming, this brat. Made a profit of more than 20k in two months and suddenly asking about it? She’s definitely thinking of some sly trick. Is she trying to make more money?!" Chen Lijun was still not happy.

These two devious brats. Always plotting and not sharing anything with her, secretly building a fortune and not even taking her along for the ride!

Watching Suizi elegantly nibble on the ribs, she flared up again, and smacked the table so hard that Suizi’s rib dropped onto it.

"You seem to grow more significant every day! Young girls should eat less ribs!"

"You didn’t let me eat when I was chubby before, and now that I’ve slimmed down, you’re still not letting me eat?!"

"You look just like a rib. Are you trying to compensate by eating more of the same?"

Suizi pointed her lips downward in hurt and complained to Fan Huang.

"Is mom undergoing menopause or could she be pregnant? Why is her temper so bad?"

"It’s normal for women, you know." Fan Huang gave Suizi another rib.

Suizi had an enlightenment expression, "Oh! It’s that time of the month. No wonder mom has a hair-trigger temper, and dad holds a grudge over being called a sweet potato leaf. So both are being repressed?"

Suizi, who was corrupted by Yu Jingting, thought about a lot in this moment and chuckled to herself.

Initially, Chen Lijun wanted to pick a fight with her daughter, but Suizi was too thick-skinned, enjoying her ribs unaffected. Chen Lijun’s anger grew.

"Mom, you’re accusing my wife wrongly. She’s saving money to show filial piety to you. Next month is your birthday, and she has prepared a special gift for you." The husband stepped up to defend his wife.

"Why would you tell her that?" Suizi pouted.

Chen Lijun was looking for trouble just a second ago, but upon hearing of a gift from her son-in-law, her mood immediately brightened. The corners of her mouth involuntarily curled, but she tried to act indifferent. However, her obviously happy tone betrayed her.

"So, what did you prepare? Let me see how poor your taste is."

"Why is she like this? Being playful towards the child?" Fan Huang said.

Chen Lijun glared at him. You’re too naive, just shut up.

"I’m not telling you any of this. It’s not that I want to surprise you, I want to see you on tenterhooks. After you get disappointed and mad, only then will I bring it out." Suizi took up the gauntlet against her mom.

"After choosing so many times, and pondering over what would make mom happy, now you are angry about it after I revealed it?" Yu Jingting exposed his wife.

Suizi pinched him, traitor, shut your mouth.

"Just bring it out, I will ridicule you right now."

"I won’t!"

This mother and daughter always argue when they meet. Yu Jingting and Fan Huang were used to it, letting them fight while the two men started another discussion.

Next month was Chen Lijun’s birthday, that coincides with their marriage. Fan Huang planned to book a few tables, inviting only close family and friends. This planning led to conflict and disagreement.

Fan Huang didn’t want to make it too grand as his status may invite some unwanted guests bearing gifts, hoping to build relationships. However, he didn’t want the celebration to be too simple either, as it would not show his respect for Chen Lijun.

Chen Lijun, on the other hand, was averse to the trouble and didn’t want to hold the celebration at all.

The two disagreed on this topic with neither side willing to give in, and the matter was making no progress at all.

"Is this a problem? Just leave this to me." Yu Jingting said.

When it came to dealing with his wife’s family, he stuck to one principle. He must step up when there’s a problem, and even when there is none, he’d create one just to find an excuse to do something.
