I am chasing a rough man in the 80s
Chapter 638 She is Not Human

Chapter 638: Chapter 638 She is Not Human

Fan Huang led Chen Lijun out through the back door, his brow furrowed as he listened to the noise in the front yard.

The back door of the Yu Family faced the front door of Fan Hui’s house.

Chen Lijun followed his gaze towards it, and saw that the lights in Fan Hui’s master bedroom were still on.

"Should we go and check?"

Fan Huang remained silent for a moment then reached out, taking her hand the next second.

"I gave Jingting some red envelopes."

"So?"

"A moment of spring night is worth a thousand gold."

It truly was worth a thousand, as he had stuffed one thousand in that red envelope.

That Tiegen kid had better make good use of the money he was given.

Chen Lijun snorted in amusement.

"With only one operational arm, you’re still thinking about all these trivial things?"

"No need for inconvenience, but if there’s inconvenience, we must still push through. I appreciate your hard work, Director Chen."

"....???" Something seemed to be off here.

Chen Lijun thought that she could never allow him to stick around with that bad influence, Tiegen, as it was too easy to pick up bad habits.

Jingting sneezed. Who was cursing him now?

"I’m looking for my uncle," said Fan Lili, her gaze firmly fixed on Jingting, even as she claimed to be searching for her uncle.

Suizi visibly noted the bulging veins on Jingting’s forehead. One would assume that having another woman show interest in her man would ignite some feelings of jealousy or discomfort within her.

Yet, she felt nothing but sympathy for Jingting.

It seemed that the women who took an interest in Jingting were rarely ever normal, with the sole exception of Suizi.

They were either psychopaths or excessively aggressive. Jingting must be developing some sort of trauma from dealing with these hyper-aggressive women, always on edge whenever any woman throws herself at him.

But then again, the logic checked out. In a time of such simple and honest traditions, what normal woman would be interested in a married man?

Jingting could feel the sympathetic gaze Suizi was casting at him, sending a surge of misdirected anger bubbling up inside him.

"Your uncle is not here. Go cool off somewhere else."

"But, my mom has gone missing. I have to find my uncle and ask for his help to save her, unless you’d be willing to help."

"If someone’s missing, you go to the police. It’s common sense. I’m not a cop. I can’t handle this." With that said, Jingting immediately pushed her away.

Fan Lili was pushed out forcefully by him.

After the iron gate was locked up again, the echo of Jingting’s cold voice rang through.

"Stop bothering me, and don’t go looking for your uncle either, unless you don’t wish to feed the tiger anymore."

"Why not?" Fan Lili asked.

"Anybody who distracts him right now will be thrown out to the tiger’s den! Foolish."

Jingting went inside, filled up his clay teapot to douse the flames of his irritation.

"Do you think something happened to Liu Xi? Should we help in searching for her?" Suizi wondered out loud.

"If there’s really something wrong, we ought to call the police. We are new to this place and wouldn’t know where to begin looking," Jingting scoffed, "Who’s to say she didn’t pull a sneak and went on a date with Fan Kun again? Her husband’s in the hospital, she wouldn’t let a golden opportunity like this go."

"True... But today is my parents’ marriage certification day. If anything really happens to her, it will look like my father is heartless. Maybe we should at least report to the police."

"Why the hell would you want to get involved in her affairs? That woman still hasn’t cleared herself of suspicion in my book," Jingting said, none too pleased.

While Suizi had mentioned that Liu Xi once saved Luoluo, Jingting remained unfavourably inclined towards that woman, especially since the incident where she provoked others to harm Suizi hadn’t been fully investigated yet.

Fan Huang, keeping in mind the overall situation of their family, had not reported Liu Xi to the authorities but had warned her in private. Jingting felt that, by not denying it, Liu Xi was indirectly admitting to guilt. To him, she was the prime suspect in his mind.

"Reporting to the police doesn’t take much effort, especially if something really does happen, we wouldn’t want the blame to fall on us."

Suizi was sharp-minded, always keeping evidence at hand in the face of such a grand family conflict. She wouldn’t provide anyone with even a hint of an upper hand.

Suizi’s household didn’t have a telephone. When she ran to her mother’s house, she found that Chen Lijun had already returned to Fan Huang’s place, leaving the house vacant. Fortunately, Chen Lijun had given Suizi a key.

As Suizi opened the door, intending to go into the main house to make a call, she heard scurrying noises from the side room. Startled, Suizi quickly called Jingting over.

"Check if there are any rats in here?"

The side room was Chen Lijun’s storage room. Over the years, she might have given up on painting, but she had numerous renowned paintings collected from her house and Fan Huang’s, all piled up in the storage room.

If there were any rats in there, and even if they gnawed a little, it would be a disaster.

"Let’s report to the police first, then check."

"No! There’s an authentic painting by the Eight Great Mountain Men inside. My mom said if I behave well, she would give it to me. I think if I suck up to her for three to five years, that painting could be mine."

Suizi had had her eye on that painting for quite some time.

"I really don’t get why you people fuss about these things. Especially that Eight Great Mountain Men you mentioned. What type of painting is that? A chicken rolling its eyes, a bird looking down upon others..."

"That’s art. You wouldn’t understand!" Suizi certainly wouldn’t tell him that the painter of the rolling-eyes chicken was worth tens of millions in the future.

As to which family, the Yu Family or Chen Lijun’s, had more valuable collections, even Suizi couldn’t tell.

Her father-in-law had hands full of jade relics, Jingting’s grandfather’s house was filled with antiques packed in large sacks, and her mother’s family had an abundance of calligraphy and paintings. Comparatively, it seemed like her own father was the poorest among them, with nothing but authority.

jingting unlocked the door, pushed it open, and thud, someone fell at his feet.

Suizi, thinking it was a rat, gave a frightened scream without turning on the lights. Her immediate reaction was to a rat, one the size of a human!

"Fuck, what is this thing?" Even Jingting, well-known for his brave heart, was startled by the sudden appearance. He switched on the light.

Liu Xi, bound up like a glutinous rice dumpling and with duct tape over her mouth, was trembling at their feet.

"What’s going on???"

Quickly tearing the tape off Liu Xi’s mouth, Suizi found that Liu Xi was in tears.

"Ah, did you hurt your head?" When Suizi felt something sticky on her hand as she held Liu Xi, she looked under the light and found blood everywhere on the ground.

"Hurry up and get the first aid kit. We need to stop the bleeding. If we’d been any later, you would’ve been in grave danger. Jingting, call the police."

"Don’t call!" Liu Xi managed to force out in a hoarse whisper, stretching out a bloody hand to grab Jingting’s leg.

"Please, don’t call the police!"

Seeing how agitated Liu Xi was, Suizi felt that there was more to the situation. Considering the complexity of the incident, she decided against calling the police and took Liu Xi to her home instead.

Wang Cuihua was startled when they arrived with Liu Xi, who was coated in blood from head to toe. Only upon closer inspection did she realise it was Liu Xi.

"What happened here?"

Suizi shook her head - she needed to handle Liu Xi’s wound first.

Liu Xi’s wound was at the back of her head, opening up a significant gash. Suizi quickly stopped the bleeding but felt that it was hardly adequate. A wound this large required stitches.

From the moment she entered the house, Liu Xi had been crying without uttering a word.

Having recounted the events in her head, Suizi felt goosebumps forming on her skin, a bad premonition brimming. If her guess was correct, Fan Lili was not just an ordinary girl, she was a reincarnation of the devil.
